Rookwood staff did a brilliant job helping my mother settle in February 2023. It has been reassuring to witness her become more sociable, using the lounge and partaking in activities in the past half year. All the staff I have met have been wonderful, caring and friendly. Mum also loves the garden, which we walk round together whenever I visit. It is good to see the same staff too,
I would recommend Roockwood to anyone.
Dad has come to love where he is and the decision for him to stay permanently was made so easy, all the staff welcomed him. A massive thank you to everyone.
Mum went to this home eleven months ago, very reluctantly and frustrated with her loss of independence. She had already lost it but due to dementia couldn't see it. The staff were all very patient, loving, caring and encouraging to her and gradually over time she accepted it as her home. When she became ill she returned from hospital for over two weeks of end-of-life care. The staff all made us feel very welcome at any time, and it was a great comfort to see the excellent care and attention, dignity and respect until she died, and since for us as a family.
A great caring home, my aunt enjoys the food, and activities and always raves about the staff!
She’s made so many friends
Thank you for the awesome work you all do.
She’s been a resident for many years and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else
Positives: Staff have shown good care for Mum, supporting her to settle. They have also shown sensitivity and professionalism throughout her recent ill health and hospital stay. The manager is strong and supports staff well. She replies to correspondence promptly and ensures strong communication throughout. Negatives: Mum feels the activities are poor. She lacks stimulation through group activities. She also does not like staff commenting on the food she has eaten (100% etc).
I have always been impressed with Rookwood Care for Mum, particularly over the last month it has been outstanding. The team have done an amazing job in these extremely difficult times.
I arranged for my mum to have two weeks respite care at Rookwood, partly because of her mobility difficulties due to osteoarthritis, and partly just to "try out" what it would be like if she was to go into a care home full time. Overall, it was a good experience for my mum to have, and I consider that the manager and her team looked after her in a caring and professional manner, thank you. At the end of the day, Mum preferred to be back at her regular home, a cottage in Ditchling, but is now well aware of what staying in a residential home would involve.
My aunt was a resident at Rookwood for over six years. During that time she received high-quality care and also a lot of affection from the staff. I was unable to visit frequently because of living 200 miles away but I always felt confident that she was in good hands. When I was able to visit, I could see for myself that she was well cared for. Whenever an issue arose to do with health or other needs I was always informed immediately. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rookwood to anyone seeking a well-run and caring place for an elderly relative.
I would definitely recommend this care home.
My mother has only been a resident in Rookwood since 1st November 2019 during which time I have been very pleased with all aspects of the home.
It has been reassuring that mum has settled in so well, despite all of our concerns that this may not be the case. All of the staff are so patient with mum and have always made her feel very welcome right from the start. Nothing is too much trouble. I feel confident that she is well attended to. My only slight concern is that there sometimes seems to be a break in communications, eg conversations with staff concerning mum seem not to always be communicated to other members of staff so it can be a bit like a game of Chinese Whispers or just hoping messages have been shared.
Having working experience of care home/nursing homes I can honestly say that Rockwood is one of the highest standards that I have found in the Mid-Sussex area all areas of the care and standards are superb. We are very happy that Rockwoods was chosen for my aunt almost one year ago, she has thrived in her new home.
My sister is very happy, well-fed although her intolerances are not always catered for and if she was not completely with it and refuse certain foods may be ill on occasions. The staff are always friendly and helpful and are consistent.
The premises are of a high standard with regular updating and the quality of furnishings excellent.
All the staff are friendly, approachable and helpful.
The administration is efficient with timely and accurate billing.
I would completely recommend Rookwood as a place where an aged relative will be safe and well looked after.
My mother came to Rookwood earlier in the year and although we were concerned that the time had come for her to be looked after full time we were very pleasantly surprised with the care and support she has received. The staff are kind to her and always make us welcome when we visit. They are also very flexible to accommodate mum's choices with her care. Her health has been very stable since going to Rookwood which has given us much needed peace of mind. This is due to the care and attention given by the staff. The food always looks good and nutritious and they also have a monthly activities newsletter listing the upcoming events. Mum is not one for joining in always but does enjoy the entertainment and the activities staff make an effort to get to know a resident's likes. I would definitely recommend Rookwood.
My nan moved into the home in February and has really settled in. At 103, for the first time in her life, has friends. She has up to now kept herself to herself. She is well looked after and feels safe with 24/7 care. She loves the careers and the home. A big thank you to everyone at Rookwoods. It is so lovely to go in and see her with a smile on her face.
The staff at Rookwood have made the transition so much easier for her and us.
Mum receives exactly the care we would have hoped for- staff are very kind and treat the residents with great care and respect and they are always happy to help with any queries or questions I may have.
There are lots of activities including craft, music, gardening and visiting entertainers.
Rookwood is a bright, spacious and clean environment in which to live and I feel she is very safe there, with all her needs met.
We are extremely happy with Rookwood.
Always greeted with a smile. Staff very helpful with any problems.
There is always a nice atmosphere in the home and whenever we visit we are made to feel very welcome. In the afternoons, a cup of tea and freshly made cake is always offered, to visitors as well as residents. The overall standard of cleanliness is high and there are always plenty of carers on duty. A local GP visits weekly to look after any ailments that may crop up from time to time.
There are regular activities planned during the month which my Mother takes part and enjoys and she also looks forward to the trips out that are arranged. The meals are freshly cooked and alternatives are always available according to likes and dislikes.
My Mother's room is bright and clean and she has a lovely outlook into the garden. To conclude, we would have no hesitation in recommending Rookwood to families who are placing there loved ones into Care.

Meet the Team (1)

“Welcome to Rookwood. We pride ourselves on offering something truly unique within our local community: we are the only care setting in the area dedicated exclusively to residential care.
As part of the South Coast Nursing Homes family - a dedicated, family-run company with over 60 years of experience and 8 sister homes - we combine the robust support of an established care provider with the personal feel of a boutique home. Since taking over as Registered Manager in 2023, my goal has been to preserve and nurture the unique magic of Rookwood.
Rookwood is a beautiful, characterful house. With our original flooring, striking staircase, and a peaceful garden maintained proudly by both staff and residents, Rookwood looks and feels like a proper home.
We are a close-knit, 25-bed home, which allows us to maintain an incredibly warm, safe, and familiar atmosphere. Because of our size, our residents’ families get to know one another, frequently joining us for activities, outings, and parties.
While we are a purely residential home, should a resident's needs change, our relationship with our sister nursing homes - combined with our shared electronic care and medication systems - means that a transition into nursing care is completely seamless and stress-free. We also benefit from a Group Clinical Lead, a visiting Care Home Matron, and a Nurse Lead for complex clinical decisions. Over my years here, I have fostered excellent relationships with our local multidisciplinary teams and community nurses, and we enjoy a weekly visit from our local GP to ensure prompt, effective care.
Location is everything, and Rookwood offers the best of both worlds. We are tucked away from the main road in a quiet, tranquil setting, yet we are located close to the main town with easy access to public transport. This allows several of our residents to enjoy visiting the local town independently, while making it incredibly convenient for loved ones to visit. We also ensure our residents remain an active, vital part of the wider community through regular charity fundraising, including supporting our local food bank.
The highest compliment we receive is that a vast number of our residents come to us via word-of-mouth recommendations, not just from past relatives, but from local community healthcare teams who trust us implicitly.
We invite you to come and experience Rookwood for yourself. Our doors are always open.”
