Excellent care home could not have wished for a better place for my mother.
The staff are friendly and approachable. She is well looked after and can even have her hair cut and coloured! She has a lovely room with access to the garden.
They have craft days which she enjoys and they celebrate the residents birthdays with a cake.
I was most impressed with the way the staff dealt with my mothers birthday, I felt like extra attention had been spent on mum. Staff had also arranged for a card, bunch of flowers and a cake. I was nearly overwhelmed when the brought the cake in and sang happy birthday to mum. It had not occurred that the staff would go that extra mile to make her feel at home. I always see the staff treat all of the residents with care, respect and making an effort to lift their spirits. Thank you so much for the care that you are providing.
We had been recommended Rookwood as a possible residential home for my mother. We went to visit and were not disappointed. It is lovely. Beautifully decorated. Nice gardens. Welcoming and helpful staff. We had to wait for a place to become available but, my mother moved in in July and is very happy there. Her room is lovely and she has everything she needs. She is warm, very well fed(!) and for the first time, in many years, she has company (she likes a chat!). The other residents are friendly and there is always something to do. The daily activities are enjoyable and they work hard to celebrate the memorable occasions (birthdays/remembrance day etc). Everyone feels involved. My mother can still go to outside activities - friends come and take her to her church on Sundays and you can visit whenever you like, they just ask you to avoid meal times. They keep me well informed of everything that goes on and, I too, am always made welcome. Mum and I are very happy. Thanks.
He was made to feel very much at home and remarked the food was very good and plenty of it. The staff were all very helpful and considerate.
My mother stayed for a week at Rookwood to give her a taster of how life could be in a residential home as she was finding it difficult living in her own home. I am glad to say she absolutely loved it at Rookwood. Everybody was so calm and friendly and very caring and the food and accommodation excellent. I would be very happy for my mother to live there.
My mother is very happy here (this from a woman who swore that she would never go into a home).
Very helpful with me and my Father. The home is very well maintained, clean and recently refurbished to a high standard. We can visit any time we like.
I have always found the management and staff to be friendly and personable. They make every effort to ensure the residents get the most out of their stay, in a friendly and homely environment. Introducing various events throughout the weeks and months coaxing the residence (when willing) to join in wherever possible.
I do get a lot of comfort knowing my mum is in a safe place and in very good hands. The staff here are very kind and understanding when my mum gets upset, although my mum does have her bolshy moments, they handle it very well.
The chefs also make a big difference, as they make every effort to provide enjoyable, tasty food. The soups are fabulous.
You would be hard pushed to find a better place in my view. Thank you Rookwood, I'd be lost without your support as would my mum.
Rookwood was chosen by my Cousin before she needed care. Each time we visit her she is happy, comfortable and nicely dressed. The staff are always available, friendly and helpful. Thye menus are varied and activities are regularly arranged for those who can benefit. If I needed care I could not hope for a nicer home.
I have enjoyed the respite stay I have had for the past year. I will be sorry to leave. The staff were very helpful to me.
The staff are very caring and always welcoming and keep us informed of any situation which may arise.
We can see that the all of the management and staff work hard to ensure that Rookwood is a happy and enjoyable place for her to live.
We have been very pleased with the standard of care given. The manager has been extremely helpful in keeping us informed of any problems whatever they are and it has enabled us to be able to be assured that all is well if we hear nothing to the contrary. As we live a long way from the home this is especially important to us.
Rookwood is an excellent home and the standard of care is impressive. It seems to me to offer care between a residential and a nursing home. The standards are high and the team there have been instrumental in improving my mother's health. Food quality, care quality, the home itself and activities offered are excellent.
The standard of care is excellent, a warm welcome from all staff at all times when visiting my mother. My mother has been at Rookwood coming up for one year and the change in her has been great thanks to Rookwood. A excellent run care home.

“Welcome to Rookwood. We pride ourselves on offering something truly unique within our local community: we are the only care setting in the area dedicated exclusively to residential care.
As part of the South Coast Nursing Homes family - a dedicated, family-run company with over 60 years of experience and 8 sister homes - we combine the robust support of an established care provider with the personal feel of a boutique home. Since taking over as Registered Manager in 2023, my goal has been to preserve and nurture the unique magic of Rookwood.
Rookwood is a beautiful, characterful house. With our original flooring, striking staircase, and a peaceful garden maintained proudly by both staff and residents, Rookwood looks and feels like a proper home.
We are a close-knit, 25-bed home, which allows us to maintain an incredibly warm, safe, and familiar atmosphere. Because of our size, our residents’ families get to know one another, frequently joining us for activities, outings, and parties.
While we are a purely residential home, should a resident's needs change, our relationship with our sister nursing homes - combined with our shared electronic care and medication systems - means that a transition into nursing care is completely seamless and stress-free. We also benefit from a Group Clinical Lead, a visiting Care Home Matron, and a Nurse Lead for complex clinical decisions. Over my years here, I have fostered excellent relationships with our local multidisciplinary teams and community nurses, and we enjoy a weekly visit from our local GP to ensure prompt, effective care.
Location is everything, and Rookwood offers the best of both worlds. We are tucked away from the main road in a quiet, tranquil setting, yet we are located close to the main town with easy access to public transport. This allows several of our residents to enjoy visiting the local town independently, while making it incredibly convenient for loved ones to visit. We also ensure our residents remain an active, vital part of the wider community through regular charity fundraising, including supporting our local food bank.
The highest compliment we receive is that a vast number of our residents come to us via word-of-mouth recommendations, not just from past relatives, but from local community healthcare teams who trust us implicitly.
We invite you to come and experience Rookwood for yourself. Our doors are always open.”
