Summerlands is situated in pleasant surroundings, while being a short walk from village amenities, allowing residents to pursue an active and fulfilling lifestyle as much as they wish.

All rooms are decorated, fully furnished and en-suite. Residents are free to bring their own personal possessions – perhaps a favourite chair or even a bed, to make their room home from home. They may be as private as they wish or make use of the friendly atmosphere in the main lounge or dining areas.

Staff cover is provided thoughout the day and night and every effort is made to meet individual needs with respect, giving recognition to the right of privacy underpinned with security.

Wholesome food is prepared by the chefs, who take pride in providing a varied and well-prepared menu. Fresh, appetising meals form the basis of a balanced diet, catering for individual tastes, preferences and special diets, for example diabetics.

We knew the instant we viewed Summerlands that it was so exceptionally right for Mum who had become so anxious living on her own.
My Mum has had a completely new lease of life, the team managed her transition into care extremely well. Visiting relatives, friends and residents' relatives have commented
on how much more positive, happy and settled Mum has become. The home is so special on every level and it is beautifully managed and run. The staff and the atmosphere in the home are so positive, friendly and welcoming. We have a lovely rapport with everyone.
There are structured activities every day and the lovely grounds are second to none. The food is also exceptional.
The team all take great care in maintaining and improving their award-winning care, building their relationships with both residents and families creating an inclusive family feel to their care. Summerlands is truly exceptional on all levels which is a huge credit to its owner, management, caring and domestic staff.

Summerlands is a well-looked-after and run home set in beautiful well-maintained gardens which are accessible for all. Mum has a lovely light and bright room opening out onto the garden and it is always tidy and clean. She has made it her own with some pictures on the wall and some bits and pieces from
home. The staff were so welcoming to her ensuring she settled in quickly and had everything she needed to make the transition seamless. Mum has made several friends already. The home is modern, bright and well decorated and from my observation, continuously having modifications for the benefit of the residents and families. The food is delicious and very varied. The chef made a point of meeting Mum and asking what are her likes - she is really enjoying the varied home cooking provided. The care provided by the staff is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. I love the fact I can pop in and always welcomed by the staff and they always have time if I want an update.

From our first contact until my mum became a resident at Summerlands we cannot fault the staff, the care, the food, the communication and the outstanding cleanliness of every area of the home. They should charge people to walk around the garden as it's stunning. Mum has not been so happy in a long time.

As soon as we walked into Summerlands, we knew that it was a place where Mum could be happy. It is a lovely environment, with beautiful gardens and a bright dining area overlooking the patio. Mum has a very light and comfortable room, which is always kept clean and fresh. The food is excellent - delicious
and varied -- and Mum always looks forward to her meals. The thing that really stands out about Summerlands, though, is that all of the staff take so much time to understand the residents, their past lives and what makes them who they are so that they can help them enjoy their lives as much as possible going forward. The staff also takes great care in keeping in touch with the families of new residents as they move into Summerlands. There is a lot of affection shown between residents and staff, and Summerlands always has a happy and relaxed atmosphere. After a few weeks, Mum thinks of Summerlands as her home and we are very grateful to everyone. Thank you!

As soon as we stepped into Summerlands we were incredibly impressed by the beautiful setting. The garden is stunning and a lovely place for residents to relax. Inside is equally delightful, well well-decorated with modern features. There is a very comfortable lounge where a wide range of activities
take place and the dining area is spacious, sunny and opens out onto an attractive terrace with comfortable garden furniture. The food is delicious and all cooked on the premises by a great chef.
But the best part of Summerlands is the superb care provided by its incredibly friendly, professional and nurturing staff. They take a close and caring interest in the health and welfare of all the residents - nothing is too much trouble for them. Summerlands has a close tie with the local GP surgery so that residents have a high-quality of medical care.
It is always a pleasure to visit Summerlands - uplifting for both residents and visitors alike.

A very caring environment in beautiful surroundings. The staff know the residents individually which is so important for supporting residents with age related decline and dementia. Plenty of activities are arranged and individuals are encouraged to join in. The gardens are fabulous, providing a safe
place for residents to enjoy time outside. All in a lovely care home.

Mum came to Summerlands at the end of 2022. We had visited lots of care homes and liked the smaller, friendly, home-like feeling it gave. The staff have all been very supportive, kind and caring. They are attentive to individual needs and medical requirements and keep in regular contact. Mum loves to
walk around the beautiful gardens and to sit outside and read. There are lots of activities to join in with, she particularly enjoys the 'keep fit class' and when the therapy dog comes to visit. Visitors are made to feel welcome and there are activities that family and friends can join in with during the year, for instance the recent tea party, and always a big event at Christmas. Sitting down to home-cooked food at a properly laid table makes eating enjoyable for the residents. Mum feels safe here and we are glad that she is able to have a place at Summerlands. We would not hesitate to recommend this home to other families and already have many times!

We have found Summerlands Care Home staff to be excellent, kind and cheerful, and caring to our mum. The home provides an absolutely amazing outdoor space and an easily accessed garden, which is a real highlight. Mum looks forward to the well prepared meals and teas. Imaginative and inclusive activities
are provided for those who wish to participate. The home is individually owned and small enough to have a family atmosphere, which the dedicated manager and care team encourage and skillfully manage. They deserve much thanks for all their efforts, thank you Summerlands!

My elderly father became a resident at Summerlands in December 2022, and he, I and my family have been highly impressed with both the care he has received and the professional, informative, caring interaction we have had with ‘all’ members of the Summerlands team.
We visited several care homes in
the area before he moved in, and whilst some others looked good, Summerlands stood out as the most impressive, and it has certainly lived up to our high expectations. From struggling in his own home, my father has flourished at Summerlands, where the level of care, interaction, cleanliness and all-around environment (not to mention the food, as he keeps telling me!) have been superb.
I have been impressed with all the staff at Summerlands, and this week, we had a review of how things have been going with one lady, who was excellent. My father had always said he would never go into a home, so I had been dreading it becoming a necessity, but I needn’t have worried as it’s been a perfect move for him.

Our mum has been at Summerlands since November 2019. She has Alzheimer's disease, has been completely bedridden for the best part of two years now and requires everything done for her. The staff have worked very hard to keep her comfortable and pain-free, making sure she eats and drinks and they are
often popping into her room to have a chat, read her bible to her, watch something with her, do her nails or do any other suitable activity. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have a great system for visiting and contacting residents. Mostly we can stay as long as we like when visiting now, but during Covid, they went to great lengths to keep everyone safe whilst still allowing visits.
The staff at Summerlands are truly interested in their residents and treat them as family. It is an extremely positive environment, and there is nowhere else we would rather our mum was.

We have been delighted with my aunt's care at Summerlands since she moved from another home a year ago. The senior management sets high standards. I visit Summerlands two or three times a week and have always found the staff to be welcoming, my aunt looks properly dressed (and to her wishes), and her
room is clean and tidy. The staff got to know my aunt quickly and are responsive to her needs and personality - for example, they were very patient in helping her to join in activities (which is a strength), to go to the hairdresser and to accept help with bathing (more difficult than they sound!). When medical needs have arisen, they have been identified and dealt with swiftly. It's true that you cannot visit Summerlands without being bowled over by the garden and the fold-back doors from the dining room that opens onto the garden in summer, but it is really the people who make the place.

My stepfather became a resident at the home 18 months ago (2021), having suffered a stroke which greatly reduced his mobility. His dementia after the stroke worsened, so it was a difficult decision made to find a residential home. We knew of Summerlands as a friend's father was a resident, and we had
heard very good reports. We were shown around the home by the manager, who was very helpful in answering all our questions and showed us a room that was available. The transition from hospital to Summerlands was handled with sensitivity, and the staff were excellent at keeping us informed of his adjustment to the new situation. Our visits are easier now the Covid situation has improved, and we often take in our little dog.
The gardens and patio area are fabulous, with plenty of benches and comfy garden furniture, which make a summer visit special sitting outside.
The activities are excellent, ranging from decorating cupcakes, quizzes, treasure hunts, singing, bowls and more.

I can not praise Summerlands highly enough. Mum first arrived in a stressed and confused state due to her dementia. Their professional and caring approach soon calmed her anxieties. She now enjoys living in a safe, calm and relaxing environment, in particular, she loves to walk in the beautiful gardens
and sit by the pond. We are made very welcome when we visit by all members of staff, who are always friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent, always clean and tidy - it has a warm, homely feel about it. We can relax knowing she is now receiving the best possible care at Summerlands.

Since my mother became a resident at Summerlands during April 2022, she has received the most impeccable care. The staff are always friendly and give me updates as to my mother's well-being. The home and gardens are of an exemplary standard.
I have seen the food offered, and I have no problems at all
with the standard of cuisine offered.
Even though Covid-19 has become not so much as intense as it was, the protocols asked of visitors are such that this home does not want Covid-19 to affect their residents, which is a small price to pay to keep my mother safe.
Overall, Summerlands is 5-plus stars.

Both my Mother and Father were residents at Summerlands. They both received the very best care that we could have asked for at what became very difficult times for them both. The second that I walked through the door at Summerlands, I knew that it would be ideal for my mum. It is a very welcoming 'home', and there is a sense of life being lived in a happy, vibrant and caring environment. The gardens at Summerlands are beautiful, easily accessible, and there to be enjoyed
by everyone. They are also useful as a talking point during visits. There are activities most days, which my mother enjoys: she had been content with her own company in the past, but the Summerlands staff encouraged her from day one to join in, and this has been wonderful to witness. It is obvious that each and every member of the team are genuine in their care for their residents, and I have every confidence in them to look after my mum in a dignified and respectful manner. My mum has only been at Summerlands for a few months, but I know that she is surrounded by those who truly carem and there is nowhere else that I would rather she be. Thank you.

My mum moved into Summerlands in Nov 2019 and although she approved of her room, the beautiful dining area, lounge and gardens, she was reluctant to join in with activities. She was content to sit and watch her TV and read her magazine. The super friendly staff had to come up with other ideas to get
Mum to socialise. Activities would quite often come to her! Be it a relaxing nail painting session, looking at a magazine with a carer, or just simply watching TV with a friendly person (carer) sitting alongside. Gradually, Mum came out of her shell and was gently persuaded to come down to the lounge to listen to music, or join in playing skittles! Summerlands staff are excellent at evaluating residents needs - knowing when to encourage conversation and when to leave them in peace. Mum overcame her reluctance to engage and would tell me all about the ‘lovely, kind staff’ who always had a laugh and a friendly word with her. What more could you ask for? An excellent home and beautiful gardens.

Summerlands made a colossal impact on my father's life and our family. Having the peace of mind, knowing that Dad was in such a caring and loving environment in the twilight of his life, made all the difference. You cannot put into words how comforting it is to know that your loved one is being given
the best possible quality of life.
The home is in a beautiful setting, with the most fantastic, well-maintained gardens. The rooms are first-rate, and all the staff from the top to the bottom are hardworking and caring. Particular mention should go to the kitchen for the consistently high quality of their food and to the ‘entertainment’ staff who work tirelessly to keep the residents happy and occupied.
Towards the end of his life, Dad was treated with the utmost care and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble, and the high-quality care lasted right to the end. And when that finally came, the staff were so kind and understanding.
I would have no trouble recommending them to anybody.

Summerlands has provided first-class care for my mum for more than 2-years. I was so impressed by the way they handled the whole Covid situation. Not one person died from Covid in the hardest time ever. And this was because the manager and her team were always ahead of the Government with their policies
for safety in the care setting. They were all amazing.
They have continued to show such love, care and compassion for my mum - that in the last six months, even though she has Alzheimer's and almost died - she has not only recovered but has improved her health. Her speech, her use of muscles, her appetite - all of this because of the first-class care and love she receives. I want to mention one other lady here too, who is amazing.
I will be forever grateful that the last chapter of my mum's life has brought her such contentment and dignity - even though she is bed-ridden and has to have everything done for her - I don't think she ever struggles because they are all so kind to her.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (10.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (10.000) out of 10 for Summerlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Summerlands is calculated as follows: ( (275 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summerlands is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
