Summerlands is situated in pleasant surroundings, while being a short walk from village amenities, allowing residents to pursue an active and fulfilling lifestyle as much as they wish.

All rooms are decorated, fully furnished and en-suite. Residents are free to bring their own personal possessions – perhaps a favourite chair or even a bed, to make their room home from home. They may be as private as they wish or make use of the friendly atmosphere in the main lounge or dining areas.

Staff cover is provided thoughout the day and night and every effort is made to meet individual needs with respect, giving recognition to the right of privacy underpinned with security.

Wholesome food is prepared by the chefs, who take pride in providing a varied and well-prepared menu. Fresh, appetising meals form the basis of a balanced diet, catering for individual tastes, preferences and special diets, for example diabetics.

When we knew my mum was going to move down from Hertfordshire to be near us in Sussex, we looked at a number of care homes in the area. To us, Summerlands stood head and shoulders above the rest. Our initial impressions were confirmed when Mum moved in. The staff are highly professional yet very friendly,
flexible and helpful. Each one really seems to care about the residents, always seeming to have time for them and treating them with kindness and respect. I was always impressed by Summerlands' pleasant, welcoming atmosphere when I visited Mum. She had a nice, sunny room and really enjoyed sitting in the gardens, which are kept in immaculate condition. Sadly Mum died recently aged 92, but Summerlands was all I could have ever wanted from a care home for her, and I would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a real 'home from home' for their elderly parent or relative.

A caring, personally run care home, providing a safe and supportive home for my mum. Lovely, flexible and accommodating staff, high standards and they have done a magnificent job throughout the pandemic keeping Mum and all the residents and staff safe. Thank you.

Mother was extremely well cared for at Summerlands Care Home during her time there. She felt safe, was well respected and was treated with dignity. She was able to maintain her privacy and felt that staff were personally interested in caring for all her needs. At the home, there were many lovely residents
and she was able to make some special friends. The gardens are fabulous and had a very positive therapeutic effect on Mother. The food was excellently prepared on-site by a very experienced chef. I highly recommend this wonderful 'Home' to everyone.

Staying at Summerlands is like being in a luxury hotel. The food is fantastic. The garden is great and attractive. Staff, including the cleaner and activity coordinator, are very helpful. I really love being in here.

Both my sister and I have been impressed with the level of care provided at Summerlands for our 95-years old mother. She has been a resident since May 2019 and has considerable communication difficulties, and various medical conditions. She has been treated with kindness and respect throughout, and
it is obvious that the welfare of residents is top-priority at the home. She has mostly enjoyed good health, and we are kept informed about any changes or decisions required. I have scored "good" for food and drink and for activities, as we can't answer for her - some things may not be her taste. With regards to covid-19, the team has been assiduous in keeping her in good health and increased efforts to get her to socialise, which has been a problem.
A named member of staff responsible for her individual needs would be beneficial, but we absolutely understand that this is not currently possible. There are also some message have not been communicated immediately between staff, but never for significant issues.
I must stress that our considerable confidence in and admiration for the whole team has been strengthened by their response to the current crisis.

My mum is very happy and comfortable living at Summerlands. They have done a really good job right through this covid problem, all well. They have a lovely garden for the residents to spend time outside, which is a bonus during this long lockdown we have had.

I think Summerlands is the best care home in our area. The way they handled the Covid19 situation was so good and needless to say, they didn't have one case. They put on extra activities for the residents and got everyone through.
We kept in touch by phone and letters, and the staff were so reassuring.
My mum has dementia and could not understand why we could not see her. They reassured and comforted at all times.

I am very happy at Summerlands. I love the freedom to go out and have a cup of tea in local shops. I am in love with our garden. We have friendly and approachable management and staff. We have a qualified chef who is really good. I am glad to be part of this family.

My mother has been very happy at Summerlands since she moned in 5-months ago. She is pleased with her own room, which has direct access to the beautiful garden where she spends a lot of time. The carers are thoughtful, kind and patient. They have a wonderful entertainment co-ordinator who has kept Mum
and the other residents busy with quizzes, sing-alongs, games, music and poetry appreciation, even during lockdown! The staff seem to genuinely care about the residents and their needs, and they are keen to respond to my mum's wishes and not push her to do anything she would rather not do. If they have any worries or queries about my mum, the manager lets me know straight away. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

Summerlands is definitely a 'home from home', as soon as you enter you can immediately sense a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The house is most attractive with cosy and comfortable rooms. The new dining room is bright and airy with views overlooking the gardens. Outside there are well-stocked flower
beds, a fish pond and lush green lawns. Little seating areas for everyone to use and enjoy their surroundings. The staff are friendly, loving and eager to discuss queries. They clearly show interest in the residence but are always keen to discuss any family concerns. It is a great place.

The continued love/care mum has received over the past 4½ years has been and still is second to none (and support is given to me). Although in her 100th year and not in the best of health now, she certainly has the best care - I couldn't wish for a better place for her to live in her Autumn years.
All of the carers love her and look after her. She is always washed and has clean clothes on every day. Her bedroom overlooks a wonderful garden. Summerlands is immaculate and never smells of urine - my one dread when looking for a home for Mum. Its such a happy home and all the carers, cooks, managers and owners are just like an extended family, and there's always a friendly face and conversation to have. If I'm in doubt about Mum at any time, they are there to listen to me - they always have the time for you and will help with anything you need immediately. If Mum has a "lay in" - she can still have a cooked breakfast or whatever she wants at whatever time!

Summerlands really does provide 'friendly, loving care', as their strapline says. My 96 year old mother was a resident for 2+ years. She had severe dementia, but despite this, said on several occasions, quite spontaneously, 'they are very kind here'. Genuine care of this quality cannot be measured by
CQC tick boxes, but only truly experienced on a day to day basis. My mother died peacefully at the beginning of October this year; the staff cared so well for her at this time, for which I am so grateful. I could not have asked or wished for more.

Summerlands does not feel like a care home, more like a 'home from home'.
The staff really look after the residents and go beyond the call of duty.
The rooms are well furnished and very clean. The gardens are also well cared for and well thought out, sweet smelling roses, flowers and colourful.
The
'end of life' care my mother received was compassionate, professional, both for her and the family.

The care and dedication of all of the staff and management is second to none. The home and gardens could not be surpassed in any way. My mother was happy and comfortable until the end, in dignity.

Since my mother became a resident only a couple of weeks ago the difference it has made to her physical and mental health has been amazing. Being in such a loving and genuinely caring environment has given her a new lease of life and taken all the stress and worry about her care off the shoulders of

My father came to the home for respite care. he stayed as his health suddenly declined and he required end of life care. Summerlands is a have of love, care, dignity and support for residents and family, it felt like your own home. Every member of staff cared about every resident it felt like an extended
family. words cannot express how grateful I am to all at Summerlands for the care my father received. He passed away 30/1/18 in a loving place.

Summerlands has a happy & warm atmosphere which is immediately apparent when you walk in the door. I know from both of my parents who spent different periods of time at Summerlands and in other nursing homes that food can be very important to an elderly person, meals at Summerlands are cooked on the
premises and residents own preferences are accommodated where possible.
My father spent the last few months of his life in Summerlands. I found the staff to be extremely caring. He was treated with respect and dignity and the staff went above and beyond what I could have expected of them.

I had very good care. I knew I was well cared for when I woke in a hospital bed - with a view of the South Downs. Without knowing, I had been taken from my bed in Summerlands and taken to hospital. It took time for the facts to sink in. The night carer had come to my room and she decided I needed medical
care and called the ambulance. I knew nothing of this until I asked some time later. I slept through the whole experience.

My Mum stayed at Summerlands for 4 weeks as part of her recovery from a serious fall. In that time she experienced excellent care and support from the friendly and efficient staff and made rapid progress to the point where she was able to return home. As for the facilities, the rooms are well maintained
and there is a light and spacious communal conservatory which is the focus for activities, refreshments and watching TV. The staff were helpful and attentive to the needs of residents and family alike and a cost that my Mum and I felt was reasonable given the quality of service. The owner and manager are very much involved in the day to day running of the home and regularly talk to visiting family about the well being of their family member. There are activities every day which are run with enthusiasm and a sense of fun which the residents clearly appreciate. This is undoubtedly the best care home I have seen.
