Summerlands is situated in pleasant surroundings, while being a short walk from village amenities, allowing residents to pursue an active and fulfilling lifestyle as much as they wish.

All rooms are decorated, fully furnished and en-suite. Residents are free to bring their own personal possessions – perhaps a favourite chair or even a bed, to make their room home from home. They may be as private as they wish or make use of the friendly atmosphere in the main lounge or dining areas.

Staff cover is provided thoughout the day and night and every effort is made to meet individual needs with respect, giving recognition to the right of privacy underpinned with security.

Wholesome food is prepared by the chefs, who take pride in providing a varied and well-prepared menu. Fresh, appetising meals form the basis of a balanced diet, catering for individual tastes, preferences and special diets, for example diabetics.

It was a big decision for us to find care for our mother as she has always been very independent. The staff, however, made the transition easier with their friendliness, professionalism and helpfulness not only to Mum but to the family as well. The staff treat the residents with great care and show
much kindness towards them.
Mum enjoys sitting in the garden, which is immaculately kept and has a sunny room overlooking the garden, which she loves.
I would highly recommend Summerlands as a care home.

The home is really fantastic, everyone is very friendly and professional. The way Covid was managed was exceptional with the resident's welfare always being paramount. The home has an excellent, family orientated culture, and the staff are kind, caring and welcoming. There are always lots of activities
for the residents to join in with and have fun. Mum has been in Summerlands for five years now, and her care throughout has been of the highest standard. Well done, and thank you to the Summerlands team.

Mum has been in Summerlands since August 2021. We have, therefore, only experienced life under Covid restrictions. But from the very beginning, the staff did their very best to make sure Mum settled in, making her feel welcome, and obviously cared about her wellbeing. The staff were equally helpful
towards us, they were always friendly and reassuring whenever a problem arose. Life must have been difficult for the staff at times during Covid, but it must be a major achievement that they have managed to keep the residents safe. Some aspects of life have been difficult to assess, but we do know there were activities going on, which we couldn't see, (though at times we could hear music and singing)! We did, however, see at Christmas what the staff organised for both residents and their families, another major achievement.
It had been a difficult decision to move Mum into a care home, but sitting in the lovely gardens with Mum last Autumn, we knew we had made the right choice.

Mum has been at Summerlands since August 2021, so the restrictions in place since then have made it a little difficult to rate some of the review sections, such as 'activities'. We are aware of various activities going on in the lounge as we walk by, and those in which the relatives have been included,
such as 'Santa's Grotto' and the Zoom Christmas Concert, have been excellent. A great deal of effort has been made, especially at times of staff shortages to keep the residents safe and protected throughout the pandemic. As Mum has dementia, it is sometimes difficult to assess how much she is aware of her surroundings, but when we take her into the gardens, she clearly enjoys how beautiful and peaceful they are. We are very happy overall with the care provided for Mum - the staff always show patience and understanding and treat her with respect. I would happily recommend Summerlands to anyone seeking a care home in this area.

My mother entered the home in July 2021. She has settled in very well and is very complimentary about her care and the staff at the home. From my perspective, I am very pleased with the choice that I made, having looked at a number of homes in the area, as a first-timer. The staff are always very approachable
and helpful, and the grounds and gardens make for a very pleasant environment. The home worked very hard during the pandemic to make sure all residents and staff were safe and entertained as much as possible. As far as I’m concerned, it is the best in the area.
My mother has enjoyed being taken out on local outings and has appreciated (most of) the activities. Thank you to everyone involved in Mum's care.

When we knew my mum was going to move down from Hertfordshire to be near us in Sussex, we looked at a number of care homes in the area. To us, Summerlands stood head and shoulders above the rest. Our initial impressions were confirmed when Mum moved in. The staff are highly professional yet very friendly,
flexible and helpful. Each one really seems to care about the residents, always seeming to have time for them and treating them with kindness and respect. I was always impressed by Summerlands' pleasant, welcoming atmosphere when I visited Mum. She had a nice, sunny room and really enjoyed sitting in the gardens, which are kept in immaculate condition. Sadly Mum died recently aged 92, but Summerlands was all I could have ever wanted from a care home for her, and I would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a real 'home from home' for their elderly parent or relative.

Mother was extremely well cared for at Summerlands Care Home during her time there. She felt safe, was well respected and was treated with dignity. She was able to maintain her privacy and felt that staff were personally interested in caring for all her needs. At the home, there were many lovely residents
and she was able to make some special friends. The gardens are fabulous and had a very positive therapeutic effect on Mother. The food was excellently prepared on-site by a very experienced chef. I highly recommend this wonderful 'Home' to everyone.

Both my sister and I have been impressed with the level of care provided at Summerlands for our 95-years old mother. She has been a resident since May 2019 and has considerable communication difficulties, and various medical conditions. She has been treated with kindness and respect throughout, and
it is obvious that the welfare of residents is top-priority at the home. She has mostly enjoyed good health, and we are kept informed about any changes or decisions required. I have scored "good" for food and drink and for activities, as we can't answer for her - some things may not be her taste. With regards to covid-19, the team has been assiduous in keeping her in good health and increased efforts to get her to socialise, which has been a problem.
A named member of staff responsible for her individual needs would be beneficial, but we absolutely understand that this is not currently possible. There are also some message have not been communicated immediately between staff, but never for significant issues.
I must stress that our considerable confidence in and admiration for the whole team has been strengthened by their response to the current crisis.

My mum is very happy and comfortable living at Summerlands. They have done a really good job right through this covid problem, all well. They have a lovely garden for the residents to spend time outside, which is a bonus during this long lockdown we have had.

I think Summerlands is the best care home in our area. The way they handled the Covid19 situation was so good and needless to say, they didn't have one case. They put on extra activities for the residents and got everyone through.
We kept in touch by phone and letters, and the staff were so reassuring.
My mum has dementia and could not understand why we could not see her. They reassured and comforted at all times.

My mother has been very happy at Summerlands since she moned in 5-months ago. She is pleased with her own room, which has direct access to the beautiful garden where she spends a lot of time. The carers are thoughtful, kind and patient. They have a wonderful entertainment co-ordinator who has kept Mum
and the other residents busy with quizzes, sing-alongs, games, music and poetry appreciation, even during lockdown! The staff seem to genuinely care about the residents and their needs, and they are keen to respond to my mum's wishes and not push her to do anything she would rather not do. If they have any worries or queries about my mum, the manager lets me know straight away. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

Summerlands is definitely a 'home from home', as soon as you enter you can immediately sense a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The house is most attractive with cosy and comfortable rooms. The new dining room is bright and airy with views overlooking the gardens. Outside there are well-stocked flower
beds, a fish pond and lush green lawns. Little seating areas for everyone to use and enjoy their surroundings. The staff are friendly, loving and eager to discuss queries. They clearly show interest in the residence but are always keen to discuss any family concerns. It is a great place.

The continued love/care mum has received over the past 4½ years has been and still is second to none (and support is given to me). Although in her 100th year and not in the best of health now, she certainly has the best care - I couldn't wish for a better place for her to live in her Autumn years.
All of the carers love her and look after her. She is always washed and has clean clothes on every day. Her bedroom overlooks a wonderful garden. Summerlands is immaculate and never smells of urine - my one dread when looking for a home for Mum. Its such a happy home and all the carers, cooks, managers and owners are just like an extended family, and there's always a friendly face and conversation to have. If I'm in doubt about Mum at any time, they are there to listen to me - they always have the time for you and will help with anything you need immediately. If Mum has a "lay in" - she can still have a cooked breakfast or whatever she wants at whatever time!
Well done Summerlands, thank you!

Summerlands really does provide 'friendly, loving care', as their strapline says. My 96 year old mother was a resident for 2+ years. She had severe dementia, but despite this, said on several occasions, quite spontaneously, 'they are very kind here'. Genuine care of this quality cannot be measured by
CQC tick boxes, but only truly experienced on a day to day basis. My mother died peacefully at the beginning of October this year; the staff cared so well for her at this time, for which I am so grateful. I could not have asked or wished for more.

Summerlands does not feel like a care home, more like a 'home from home'.
The staff really look after the residents and go beyond the call of duty.
The rooms are well furnished and very clean. The gardens are also well cared for and well thought out, sweet smelling roses, flowers and colourful.
The
'end of life' care my mother received was compassionate, professional, both for her and the family.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (10.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (10.000) out of 10 for Summerlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Summerlands is calculated as follows: ( (275 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summerlands is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
