Summerlands is situated in pleasant surroundings, while being a short walk from village amenities, allowing residents to pursue an active and fulfilling lifestyle as much as they wish.

All rooms are decorated, fully furnished and en-suite. Residents are free to bring their own personal possessions – perhaps a favourite chair or even a bed, to make their room home from home. They may be as private as they wish or make use of the friendly atmosphere in the main lounge or dining areas.

Staff cover is provided thoughout the day and night and every effort is made to meet individual needs with respect, giving recognition to the right of privacy underpinned with security.

Wholesome food is prepared by the chefs, who take pride in providing a varied and well-prepared menu. Fresh, appetising meals form the basis of a balanced diet, catering for individual tastes, preferences and special diets, for example diabetics.

Since my mother became a resident only a couple of weeks ago the difference it has made to her physical and mental health has been amazing. Being in such a loving and genuinely caring environment has given her a new lease of life and taken all the stress and worry about her care off the shoulders of
our family.
Summerlands has not only become my mums new home but a second home for us her family as we have been made to feel like part of the Summerlands family.

My father came to the home for respite care. he stayed as his health suddenly declined and he required end of life care. Summerlands is a have of love, care, dignity and support for residents and family, it felt like your own home. Every member of staff cared about every resident it felt like an extended
family. words cannot express how grateful I am to all at Summerlands for the care my father received. He passed away 30/1/18 in a loving place.

Summerlands has a happy & warm atmosphere which is immediately apparent when you walk in the door. I know from both of my parents who spent different periods of time at Summerlands and in other nursing homes that food can be very important to an elderly person, meals at Summerlands are cooked on the
premises and residents own preferences are accommodated where possible.
My father spent the last few months of his life in Summerlands. I found the staff to be extremely caring. He was treated with respect and dignity and the staff went above and beyond what I could have expected of them.

I had very good care. I knew I was well cared for when I woke in a hospital bed - with a view of the South Downs. Without knowing, I had been taken from my bed in Summerlands and taken to hospital. It took time for the facts to sink in. The night carer had come to my room and she decided I needed medical
care and called the ambulance. I knew nothing of this until I asked some time later. I slept through the whole experience.

My Mum stayed at Summerlands for 4 weeks as part of her recovery from a serious fall. In that time she experienced excellent care and support from the friendly and efficient staff and made rapid progress to the point where she was able to return home. As for the facilities, the rooms are well maintained
and there is a light and spacious communal conservatory which is the focus for activities, refreshments and watching TV. The staff were helpful and attentive to the needs of residents and family alike and a cost that my Mum and I felt was reasonable given the quality of service. The owner and manager are very much involved in the day to day running of the home and regularly talk to visiting family about the well being of their family member. There are activities every day which are run with enthusiasm and a sense of fun which the residents clearly appreciate. This is undoubtedly the best care home I have seen.

The whole atmosphere of Summerlands is one of care, respect and friendliness. Lots of activities are available to stimulate the residents and plenty of good food. The rooms are kept clean and all is well managed. It's the nicest care home I've ever been in and that's quite a few.

I am very happy here, the staff are very helpful. There are quite a lot of activities going on and the Activities Manager is very good at her job and interacts with all of us as a group and as individuals. The rooms are very clean and tidy and the food is excellent. The chefs look after us very well.

Mum moved into Summerlands 2016 with Dad moving in early 2017. I have nothing but praise for the care and attention they have received - both have been looked after very well with great improvement in their health since moving in. It's not the height of luxury but they both have very nice rooms which
are always clean and tidy when I visit. The staff are very kind and friendly and go out of their way to help. There is a good range of activities to keep residents occupied. The cost is very reasonable and I have no hesitation in recommending Summerlands.

I love coming to Summerlands. I come three times a week. Everyone is so kind. The activities are marvellous and the food is always absolutely lovely. I like being with all the other residents in the lounge and find I am never short of company. The staff are marvellous, it goes without saying! You just
have to ask and it is done immediately. I would recommend Summerlands to anyone.

I love coming to Summerlands for the day! I stayed at Summerlands for about 5 weeks after a fall and hip surgery. The care was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome. The food of course, is good and above all, the care and environment is brilliant.
After 5 weeks I went home and now return for
the day care every fortnight.
I have no hesitation in recommending Summerlands to anyone looking for a care home. The hairdresser is an extra bonus at a reasonable cost.

We looked around other nursery/rest homes in the area after my mother was discharged from hospital after a fall in the garden. It was a breath of fresh air when we found Summerlands. The home was like "home from home", so ideal, the gardens were to die for as like my mother's garden. The staff treated
my mum (and everyone there) like they were the most important lady in the house. The staff were all jolly, friendly, trustworthy and couldn't do enough fo us all as a family. She is at home now but when it comes the time to go into a home we would only take her to Summerlands.

I have, over around 5 years, looked at 3 high-quality care homes. I selected Summerlands because I felt warmth, kindness and it is small in a lovely house and didn't feel 'corporate'. It is privately owned and the owners are often there (only 30 people).
True: other care homes might be more glamorous
and Summerlands, in some areas could do with 'a lick of paint', but the owners have just invested in a superb new kitchen. The garden is a delight for the frail and elderly.
They try hard with activities and have some 'star' staff. Kindness and hygiene are imperative when you are old. There are never any urine smells; I feel that Summerlands is a more family care home and having a 'hands-on' owner makes a big difference. I would like to see better lunch/dinner menus.

Mum liked Summerlands straightaway and we agreed. We now know that she is safe, well cared for and in excellent hands. The staff are welcoming, understanding, show kindness and compassion, and are very approachable. There is a relaxed atmosphere about the place and plenty of laughter amongst staff and
residents. It is obvious that the happiness and wellbeing of residents is important to all that work there. They care about individual needs and take the time to get to know residents who are new. I liked the fact that the owner is a visible part of the team and available to discuss things with. The menus are varied and good quality which Mum really appreciates. The various activities available cater for everyone and are optional. The gardens and pond area are lovely and weather permitting Mum likes enjoying them. Everyone is respectful to residents and very professional in their work which includes communicating with family members when necessary. Thank you Summerlands, keep up the good work.

Excellent home, caring dedicated staff. My mother has been in Summerlands about a year, she is 96 and is in an environment where the family no longer worry whether she is safe as was the case when she lived on her own. She looks (and acts) 10 years younger!

I feel extremely lucky that we found Summerlands when seeking a care home for my mother. It is welcoming, comfortable, clean, well-run and all staff are very caring. The gardens are lovely and there are lots of activities for residents. Elderly folk can be hard to please but nothing has been too much
trouble to make my mothers settling in process a happy one.

My mother was in Summerlands for exactly a year. In this time staff were excellent, so caring and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room mum had was always clean and the staff so helpful. Mum died unexpectedly in her sleep on Easter Day night. The staff who cared for her that night were brilliant
and we as a family (I have 3 siblings) are so grateful to them. She received wonderful care during the year and staff even visited her when she had a spell in hospital. The managers are excellent and always so helpful. We will miss going to the home and I would thoroughly recommend anyone going there.

We moved my mother into Summerlands just before Christmas 2015 and have been so impressed with every aspect ever since. Despite my mother's high standards on everything she is very happy at Summerlands and tells me it feels just like being in a luxury hotel.

Every aspect of the bed/sitting room

my mother occupies was totally re-fitted and redecorated before my mother moved in, including the entire en-suite shower room, and to a very high standard and yet my mother has been encouraged to have personal touches added to make the room feel 'more like home', including shelves for her photos and pictures on the walls (the work done by the home's maintenance staff at no extra cost).

The owner is always available and does everything in her power to make all her guests (residents) to look on Summerlands as their own home.

I cannot fault any aspect of the home.

We feel extremely fortunate to have found this care home for my mother and I know my father would have been very impressed.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (10.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (10.000) out of 10 for Summerlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Summerlands is calculated as follows: ( (275 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summerlands is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
