The Gables care home is situated in the market town of Chatteris, 24 miles from Cambridge, 20 miles from Peterborough and 12 miles from Huntingdon.

The team provide short-term, respite and longer term care and support for up to 49 residents at the home which is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (April 2023) and has an outstanding local reputation.

The home has wonderful private courtyard gardens, enjoyed by the residents. Inside, there are a number of large communal lounges, dining room and relaxing quieter spaces. There is a salon where residents enjoy regular hairdressing and nail appointments.

The team's main aim is to make residents’ stays as special as possible. Every day is special for The Gable residents, with fresh nutritious meals, and varied and interesting activities and entertainment. Each resident is treated to their own special personalised birthday cake; something The Gables is renowned for, ensuring residents have a very special day being spoilt.

The town of Chatteris is a pleasant and historic setting with many fantastic attractions including a library, local history museum and weekly market. The high street benefits from a post office, public houses, bakeries, newsagents and general stores. All are literally within a short walking distance from the home, with a doctor's surgery, multiple churches and local parks also close by.

My dad has now been in the Gables for almost a month, I have found the care home very helpful in every aspect from the initial care to his arrival at the home was very stress free. He was getting more and more frail living on his own and then a 2 weeks in hospital, and now he has settled into his new
life, room and the routine of the home. He is happy and there is a lot of activities for him to join in with. I am very happy with his care and staff are wonderful.

When I finally accepted that my mum needed far more help & support than I was able to give I contacted the Gables to discuss. The manager could not have been more helpful and supportive. The whole process was sorted so efficiently and fast. The moment my mum arrived I knew I had made the right decision.
The manager had suggested I take clothing etc, in the previous day so that Mum was straight in and 'at home' immediately. Not only the manager the whole team are amazing. So caring and pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble.

Since my father-in-law moved into The Gables he has settled in well after a week or two getting used to his new home which is completely understandable. Every member of staff from management, carers, maintenance and kitchen staff treat the residents with respect and compassion. The food is very good
and varied and often follows themes like St Patricks Day, Easter etc. Friends and family are always welcomed and the staff are always smiling. The Gables is my father-in-law's new home.

The Gables Care Home is more like a hotel than a residential home. The building is spotless and the staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble from the management staff through to the maintenance man. My father is 98 years old and I feel absolutely convinced The Gables is the right place for him.

Friend recommended The Gables as given outstanding care to their parent for past 2 years. Father-in-law transferred to The Gables from hospital having fallen several times and now unable to keep self safe at home. Professional and caring staff worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition for him.
He has settled very well, comfortable room, friendly staff and a relief to us knowing he has support on hand 24/7 as needed. Heartwarming that he now has the opportunity to interact with more people, at 91, having been widowed 10 years. Thank you all staff, your kindness and care is very much appreciated.

I have been visiting The Gables care home for well over a year with PAT (Pets at Therapy) dog, Willow. I can honestly say it has been the most uplifting and happy experience, not just for my dog but for me too. Seeing the joy on the residents faces when they stoke Willow. The staff have always made

My Mother-in-law has been in The Gables since June 2023. The home is maintained to a very high standard in all areas and is very clean throughout. Meals are excellent with a good choice on the menu each day. The activity/entertainment is also especially good and very well organised.

My Mum has been at The Gables Care Home for the last 18 months and is receiving excellent care from all the staff. The home is clean and tidy and there is an excellent entertainment team that keeps all residents occupied. The food is also of a very high standard.

We had an excellent experience with The Gables in Chatteris where both my parents lived for 6 weeks. The quality of care they received was excellent and all the staff were kind, compassionate and attentive, and always ready to help with their needs. They took the time to get to know my parents personally,
which made a real difference in how comfortable and happy they felt. The rooms were comfortable, homely, bright, and clean and the common areas were welcoming and encouraged social interaction among residents. Meals were nutritious, varied and tailored to the individual and could be taken in their room or in the dining area. Communication with the staff was seamless. They kept us informed about my parents' well-being and were always open to discussing their care plans or any concerns. I am deeply grateful for the exceptional care my parents received at The Gables. I highly recommend this care home to anyone seeking a nurturing and professional environment for their loved ones.

I cannot thank the manager and her team enough. They really go the extra mile. Even though my mum and dad's stay was relatively short the care and support was really excellent. The whole home has a lovely feel and is very homely. You worry about putting your parents into care but I can say honestly
that you should have no such worries at The Gables.

The care and support given to my mum and our family, leading up to my mum passing, was exceptional. The manager and all of her staff treated Mum with love and kindness and they went out of their way to ensure Mum was calm and comfortable. Also the support they gave me helped me to get through this most

Mum is happy and feels at home after only a few weeks at The Gables. She is well looked after by the kind, friendly and caring staff. The management are always available to answer any queries and are extremely helpful, kind and understanding. Mum enjoys the food, the entertainment and relaxing in the
comfortable lounge or sitting in the beautiful garden. Her visitors are always made to feel welcome. We definitely made the right choice for Mum and we don't have to worry anymore knowing she is so well cared for.

My ex-mother-in-law was admitted to The Gables in January. I could not have wished for a better more caring place for her to move into for the next phase of her life. It ticks all of the boxes. My father was admitted to The Gables in July 2023. We, as a family, could not have wished for a better place. Home-from-home, restaurant-quality food. Staff went above and beyond. This is a remarkable home and one I would recommend to anyone. Sadly, my father passed away in October but the end-of-life

The staff were so kind and caring in my mother's last few weeks. Her two hourly turns, mouthcare and fluid check were done with so much dignity. I cannot recommend The Gables enough - absolute 5-star care from every member of staff.

The Gables is a clean, safe, comfortable 'Home from Home'. The staff are all very friendly, caring, approachable and made you feel safe. The food is delicious and every need is catered for. A glass of wine at lunchtime is also appreciated. My mum once again enjoys eating her meal with company. The rooms
are lovely and mum is lucky enough to have a lovely view. The entertainment and enrichment offered by The Gables is something which has been raised in recent years. The Gables is managed in a very professional and efficient way.

Julie Tyler

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2016

Julie Tyler began her career in care as a domiciliary carer in 2006 after deciding it was time for a career change, and she says she has never looked back.
In 2013 Julie moved to residential care and began working her way up to deputy manager, and then registered manager of The Gables in 2016.
She says that working in this industry allows us to 'Touch people's lives and make a difference to them even in the darkest of times'.
