The Gables care home is situated in the market town of Chatteris, 24 miles from Cambridge, 20 miles from Peterborough and 12 miles from Huntingdon.

The team provide short-term, respite and longer term care and support for up to 49 residents at the home which is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (April 2023) and has an outstanding local reputation.

The home has wonderful private courtyard gardens, enjoyed by the residents. Inside, there are a number of large communal lounges, dining room and relaxing quieter spaces. There is a salon where residents enjoy regular hairdressing and nail appointments.

The team's main aim is to make residents’ stays as special as possible. Every day is special for The Gable residents, with fresh nutritious meals, and varied and interesting activities and entertainment. Each resident is treated to their own special personalised birthday cake; something The Gables is renowned for, ensuring residents have a very special day being spoilt.

The town of Chatteris is a pleasant and historic setting with many fantastic attractions including a library, local history museum and weekly market. The high street benefits from a post office, public houses, bakeries, newsagents and general stores. All are literally within a short walking distance from the home, with a doctor's surgery, multiple churches and local parks also close by.

We feel extremely fortunate to have our father at this wonderful care home. The care he receives is exceptional, we couldn't ask for more. There are always staff on board to discuss and update on father's needs and there are a plethora of activities on offer. We felt very touched by the thoughtfulness
shown on Father's birthday when the chef had made a bespoke birthday cake and six members of staff sang "happy birthday".

Always made welcome. Staff are always helpful and always available. Management are always available to see and talk to you on the phone or face-to-face. Best care home I have had dealings with. Overall excellent.

I have come over from Sydney, Australia, to visit my mum who is a resident at The Gables and I am greatly impressed with the highest level of care that Mum is receiving. The Gables provides a quality of care that is second to none. The staff are caring, attentive and friendly. The manager runs a tight
ship, her management style is reflected in the professionalism of the staff and their quality of care and I can't thank them enough for putting my mind at ease, knowing how well my mum is being looked after.

The manager went above and beyond in taking in my Mum at very short notice for some respite care. Her kindness and attentive nature ensured an extremely smooth transition from hospital to the home. Mum's room was immaculate and had a lovely view of one of the beautifully well-kept squares of Chatteris.
All the staff seemed to genuinely care and be interested in Mum and her well-being - to the point where I wasn't sure she would ever want to leave! The food was also of a very high standard - home cooked and delicious. There was also a delightful garden Mum wheeled herself down to most days for some fresh air. I can't recommend The Gables highly enough.

Mum had a very warm welcome to The Gables. The staff are very caring and cheerful and a credit to the care home! The food is wonderful, Mum always looks forward to meal times. The gardens are well kept and there is shade for the residents in hot weather. The rooms are always clean and tidy. This is

My cousin came from a home where she has been placed by social services following a stay in hospital. I cannot believes the change in her since she arrived at The Gables. Her mood, as well as her overall health, improved daily, and she is a new person. She cannot believe how well she is looked after,
and described her experience at The Gales as "like living in a hotel". As she has no other relatives besides me, and I live in Liverpool, all winter I feel a responsibility for her, but now know I need not worry about her health and welfare. The manager and staff will ensure she enjoys the rest of her life to the best of their ability.

Since first contacting the manager at The Gables I have been very impressed and have been helped through every step of admission, and continued support. On my weekly visits, the staff are always very friendly, smiling, polite and always happy to help. The home is always very clean and tidy and my friend's
room is very comfortable. They are sympathetic to my friend's needs and always happy to spend time with him. He is impressed with the food, which is made on-site and has enjoyed a trip out to the marina already. They celebrated the Jubilee in style and keep me fully updated with my friend's needs and wants. I cannot speak too highly about the manager and her staff.

Staff all very caring. Manager runs a lovely, happy home. Wide variety of social activities enjoyed by all residents. Menu varied and cater for elderly residents. Residents needs all catered for, hairdressing and chiropodist visits, also local GP visits weekly. In all, a lovely, well-run home. Congratulations

We had a wide choice of care homes around St Ives but decided on The Gables because of the exceptional staff. From the first telephone call, the conversation was only about Mum and her specific needs. Since arriving, she has received excellent care from a kind, loving and professional team and has thrived
as a result. The facility is within an old, listed building and is warm, cosy and welcoming. Mum enjoys the food and the almost daily entertainment from volunteers and staff. The residents are encouraged to socialise and for us, the lack of dementia cases was important in Mum moving there. We recommend The Gables very highly.

We needed to make a quick decision to move my Nan into residential care following a series of falls and ambulance call-outs. As a family, it was a very stressful and upsetting time, but we were assisted, comforted and helped every step of the way by the friendly staff at The Gables. They were able to
allow us to visit and get Nan settled in, within a week of our first enquiry and were as accomodating as possible, given the COVID restrictions. On bringing Nan to the home, the staff were so welcoming to us all and have kept us informed and updated on how she is settling in. They have answered all our silly questions and been so friendly throughout the whole process.

From the moment I made the first phone call of enquiry and spoke to the manager who was extremely professional and informative. I knew The Gables was going to be a safe and caring environment for Uncle. The family was supported in all the arrangements for admission, and nothing was too much trouble.
The transformation of our uncle in the first few weeks has been amazing to see. He feels secure, very settled enjoying the food, companionship and activities. The staff are extremely caring. A special place for a special member of our family!

My husband and I have had the greatest support and guidance to a very lengthy and stressful council process getting my grandmother into the Gables as she has never been in a home we had our doubts she would be able to adjust. My aunt has been in The Gables for over two years. She has always been shown the greatest of respect, and the best care has been given to her. At 99, she has become very frail. I am very assured that she is well cared for and her needs are met by the dedicated staff.

My experience with The Gables is more than satisfactory. Excellent staff and management. Very helpful and kind. Due to COVID, we have not been able to view Mum's room, but visited a friend in 2018 and was very impressed with cleanliness and atmosphere.

My mother was a resident at The Gables for over 5-years.
During that time she received exceptional care from the staff who all went above and beyond, taking the time to get to know her and giving her individual care, even holding a special Australian day party for her.
The home has high standards
of cleanliness and a feeling of home from home, providing enjoyable entertainment even in the lockdown. All the staff are marvellous and are very welcoming at all times, keeping family informed as to what is happening with regular newsletters and telephone updates.
I could not have found a better home to meet my mother's needs, and I cannot praise all the staff enough.

I was very grateful for The Gables at Chatteris. My dad was only there for about six weeks and he was bedridden most of the time but the carers couldn't have done more than they did. They kept him as comfortable and pain-free as possible, would recommend the home to anyone.

Julie Tyler

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2016

Julie Tyler began her career in care as a domiciliary carer in 2006 after deciding it was time for a career change, and she says she has never looked back.
In 2013 Julie moved to residential care and began working her way up to deputy manager, and then registered manager of The Gables in 2016.
She says that working in this industry allows us to 'Touch people's lives and make a difference to them even in the darkest of times'.
