The care and support given to my mum and our family, leading up to my mum passing, was exceptional. The manager and all of her staff treated Mum with love and kindness and they went out of their way to ensure Mum was calm and comfortable. Also the support they gave me helped me to get through this most difficult time. They are amazing.

Reply from Richard Lain-Smith, Head of Marketing and Social Media at The Gables

We pass on our sincere condolences on the passing and thank you for your kind words in such difficult circumstances.

Mum is happy and feels at home after only a few weeks at The Gables. She is well looked after by the kind, friendly and caring staff. The management are always available to answer any queries and are extremely helpful, kind and understanding. Mum enjoys the food, the entertainment and relaxing in the comfortable lounge or sitting in the beautiful garden. Her visitors are always made to feel welcome. We definitely made the right choice for Mum and we don't have to worry anymore knowing she is so well cared for.

Mum has settled well and is happy with lots of company. Her nails have been varnished and she has been to the hairdressers. Awaiting the banjo man - great entertainment.

My ex-mother-in-law was admitted to The Gables in January. I could not have wished for a better more caring place for her to move into for the next phase of her life. It ticks all of the boxes. She loves home-cooked food which is plentiful and the loving care provided by the whole team is without doubt truly exemplary. I can now relax knowing she is in such safe hands - thank you.

My father was admitted to The Gables in July 2023. We, as a family, could not have wished for a better place. Home-from-home, restaurant-quality food. Staff went above and beyond. This is a remarkable home and one I would recommend to anyone. Sadly, my father passed away in October but the end-of-life care was truly professional and caring.

The staff were so kind and caring in my mother's last few weeks. Her two hourly turns, mouthcare and fluid check were done with so much dignity. I cannot recommend The Gables enough - absolute 5-star care from every member of staff.

The Gables is a clean, safe, comfortable 'Home from Home'. The staff are all very friendly, caring, approachable and made you feel safe. The food is delicious and every need is catered for. A glass of wine at lunchtime is also appreciated. My mum once again enjoys eating her meal with company. The rooms are lovely and mum is lucky enough to have a lovely view. The entertainment and enrichment offered by The Gables is something which has been raised in recent years. The Gables is managed in a very professional and efficient way.

We feel extremely fortunate to have our father at this wonderful care home. The care he receives is exceptional, we couldn't ask for more. There are always staff on board to discuss and update on father's needs and there are a plethora of activities on offer. We felt very touched by the thoughtfulness shown on Father's birthday when the chef had made a bespoke birthday cake and six members of staff sang "happy birthday".

I have come over from Sydney, Australia, to visit my mum who is a resident at The Gables and I am greatly impressed with the highest level of care that Mum is receiving. The Gables provides a quality of care that is second to none. The staff are caring, attentive and friendly. The manager runs a tight ship, her management style is reflected in the professionalism of the staff and their quality of care and I can't thank them enough for putting my mind at ease, knowing how well my mum is being looked after.

The manager went above and beyond in taking in my Mum at very short notice for some respite care. Her kindness and attentive nature ensured an extremely smooth transition from hospital to the home. Mum's room was immaculate and had a lovely view of one of the beautifully well-kept squares of Chatteris. All the staff seemed to genuinely care and be interested in Mum and her well-being - to the point where I wasn't sure she would ever want to leave! The food was also of a very high standard - home cooked and delicious. There was also a delightful garden Mum wheeled herself down to most days for some fresh air. I can't recommend The Gables highly enough.

Mum had a very warm welcome to The Gables. The staff are very caring and cheerful and a credit to the care home! The food is wonderful, Mum always looks forward to meal times. The gardens are well kept and there is shade for the residents in hot weather. The rooms are always clean and tidy. This is a well-run care home with a lovely atmosphere and I have no hesitation in recommending it!

Review from Judith J (Cousin of Resident) published on 27 June 2022 Submitted via Postal Card

My cousin came from a home where she has been placed by social services following a stay in hospital. I cannot believes the change in her since she arrived at The Gables. Her mood, as well as her overall health, improved daily, and she is a new person. She cannot believe how well she is looked after, and described her experience at The Gales as "like living in a hotel". As she has no other relatives besides me, and I live in Liverpool, all winter I feel a responsibility for her, but now know I need not worry about her health and welfare. The manager and staff will ensure she enjoys the rest of her life to the best of their ability.

Since first contacting the manager at The Gables I have been very impressed and have been helped through every step of admission, and continued support. On my weekly visits, the staff are always very friendly, smiling, polite and always happy to help. The home is always very clean and tidy and my friend's room is very comfortable. They are sympathetic to my friend's needs and always happy to spend time with him. He is impressed with the food, which is made on-site and has enjoyed a trip out to the marina already. They celebrated the Jubilee in style and keep me fully updated with my friend's needs and wants. I cannot speak too highly about the manager and her staff.

We had a wide choice of care homes around St Ives but decided on The Gables because of the exceptional staff. From the first telephone call, the conversation was only about Mum and her specific needs. Since arriving, she has received excellent care from a kind, loving and professional team and has thrived as a result. The facility is within an old, listed building and is warm, cosy and welcoming. Mum enjoys the food and the almost daily entertainment from volunteers and staff. The residents are encouraged to socialise and for us, the lack of dementia cases was important in Mum moving there. We recommend The Gables very highly.

We needed to make a quick decision to move my Nan into residential care following a series of falls and ambulance call-outs. As a family, it was a very stressful and upsetting time, but we were assisted, comforted and helped every step of the way by the friendly staff at The Gables. They were able to allow us to visit and get Nan settled in, within a week of our first enquiry and were as accomodating as possible, given the COVID restrictions. On bringing Nan to the home, the staff were so welcoming to us all and have kept us informed and updated on how she is settling in. They have answered all our silly questions and been so friendly throughout the whole process.

From the moment I made the first phone call of enquiry and spoke to the manager who was extremely professional and informative. I knew The Gables was going to be a safe and caring environment for Uncle. The family was supported in all the arrangements for admission, and nothing was too much trouble. The transformation of our uncle in the first few weeks has been amazing to see. He feels secure, very settled enjoying the food, companionship and activities. The staff are extremely caring. A special place for a special member of our family!
