The Gables care home is situated in the market town of Chatteris, 24 miles from Cambridge, 20 miles from Peterborough and 12 miles from Huntingdon.

The team provide short-term, respite and longer term care and support for up to 49 residents at the home which is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (April 2023) and has an outstanding local reputation.

The home has wonderful private courtyard gardens, enjoyed by the residents. Inside, there are a number of large communal lounges, dining room and relaxing quieter spaces. There is a salon where residents enjoy regular hairdressing and nail appointments.

The team's main aim is to make residents’ stays as special as possible. Every day is special for The Gable residents, with fresh nutritious meals, and varied and interesting activities and entertainment. Each resident is treated to their own special personalised birthday cake; something The Gables is renowned for, ensuring residents have a very special day being spoilt.

The town of Chatteris is a pleasant and historic setting with many fantastic attractions including a library, local history museum and weekly market. The high street benefits from a post office, public houses, bakeries, newsagents and general stores. All are literally within a short walking distance from the home, with a doctor's surgery, multiple churches and local parks also close by.

Mum came to live at The Gables after a hospital stay. She has problems swallowing food and had lost confidence in living independently. The manager and her staff have begun to build her confidence in eating and the care they are providing is exceptional. Mum enjoys the social side, company and entertainment,
she now has peace of mind that if she has any worries or problems there is always somebody there that she can speak to.

A very friendly care home, staff polite, always willing to help, nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent, cleanliness is superb. Always made to feel at home. My first impression when I visited was that I felt comfortable and happy so, therefore, was willing to let my mum stay there and she has

The home is kept really clean. Wonderful devoted carers and management. All home-cooked food and they will cater to all different tastes and dietary requirements. The laundry is just as you would do yourself. No stains and ironed lovely. Marvellous entertainment organised, singing etc, also exercise
plan in place. The manager keeps you informed of anything needed or if the resident is not well. In-house hairdressing if wanted. Could not fault anything. Very impressed.

My great uncle was recently lucky enough to spend a 2 week period in The Gables due to his daughter (who he is currently residing with) going on holiday.
I visited him once during the fortnight along with my mum and sister, my sister was able to visit a further 2 times.
On each visit, the home, facilities
and staff were absolutely faultless.
I can honestly say that we were made to feel more welcome than when we visit my great uncle in his current place of residence, we were treated better than we are by our own family.
He looked so well and much happier than we have seen him for a long time, it was truly lovely to see. My sister has 2 small children, the staff embraced the 2 visits they made to their great great uncle, nothing was too much trouble.
The day I visited, I was told that if we had phoned ahead the kitchen would have provided us with a meal to eat along with my uncle, how kind!
We all left the Gables wishing that our great uncle was a permanent resident there. Well done all!

My mother-in-law had been in The Gables Chatteris for a year and the love and care given to her is above and beyond the carers 'just doing a job'.
The standard of everything is wonderful and very much appreciated by myself and the rest of the family.
We know she was loved genuinely by all the staff
and her care was exceptional.
I cannot praise the staff enough as it helped the family to know she was in good hands.
Sadly my mother-in-law has now passed away and the way that the carers handled the death was beautiful.
When my mother-in-law was fading, the staff kept a wonderful standard of love and care that she received all through her stay. Also, when we came back to say our goodbyes to mum, the girls had made her look so lovely and at peace. The girls had even taken the trouble to pick snowdrops from the garden to place in her hands.

We will always be eternally grateful to these lovely people for their love and devotion with mum and would highly recommend The Gables and staff to anyone.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable with en-suite facility. There is always a good and varied menu for meals each day. The staff are kind, caring and very friendly and often go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy and has everything.

Excellent care provided by staff. Good selection and choice of meals. My mother celebrated her 100th birthday in the home, all the staff made this such a memorable day for her with entertainment in the afternoon and also a party.

Upon my initial visit to The Gables, I was instantly impressed with the most professional, friendly and caring attitude of all members of staff. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the gardens most welcoming.
Leaving your loved one in the care of strangers is, to say the least, very scary.
However,
some eighteen days later, my father is thoroughly enjoying living at The Gables. Thankfully my initial impressions were well founded.
Every member of staff is thoroughly accommodating, nothing is too much trouble and my family and I are always made welcome with a smile from our newly acquainted friends who are strangers no more.

A very warm light and airy care home the manager and staff are extremely friendly and helpful and treat the residents with dignity and respect and when they talk to them it is as an equal and not as if they were talking to a child which I have witnessed in other institutions. The food is also of a high
standard.

I hope the manager and her dedicated staff (angels in disguise) of The Gables get the recognition and praise they deserve. My father spent the final months of his life in the care of The Gables and I do not know how to praise or thank them enough for the love and care he received. He loved his carers
as they were so kind and helpful to him. He enjoyed the many activities they arranged for the residents. He even had a lovely day at Springfields in Spalding. Most of all he enjoyed the delicious food cooked by the staff and fish and chip Friday. They all had time for him which we and he appreciated very much.

What a warm wonderful place. The staff were so lovely, warm and caring with my Grandad and his family. He was treated with respect and dignity. I would highly recommend this care home to others. My Grandad was looked after so well and he loved the staff. There were so many activities, everywhere was

On all of my visits over the past 2 years, I always found the staff and manager to be very helpful, kind and welcoming. The home in every respect was always very clean, tidy and warm. My friend was very happy at The Gables and the staff made it feel like home.

After illness and a series of falls, which left her isolated and unable to care for herself, my Aunt became a resident of the Gables. She improved significantly in a very short time due to the wonderful care and support given to her by the Manager and staff.
The entertainment programme and the trips
out helped her to integrate with the other residents and make new friends. She gained weight from all the tasty home-cooked
meals and became a new person. She also loved to sit outside in the beautiful garden in the summer months and along with ice creams and treats it became a real home from home for her.
We were always made very welcome and encouraged to visit as often as we liked.
The communication between the staff and ourselves on any issue was excellent and we were always kept up to date.
I cannot praise the Gables highly enough.

I have been impressed by the care and kindness shown to a family friend during her time at The Gables. The home is well decorated, maintained, warm and comfortable. The kindness and care shown to the residents by the Manager and staff are exceptional and visitors are made to feel very welcome. The residents
are taken on outings and have regular entertainment at the home which contributes greatly to their wellbeing.

Mum went into The Gables in Chatteris for a trial four weeks as she felt she wasn't looking after herself properly at home. Her eyesight is failing and she was lonely.
She is like a different person since living here, her old happy, bubbly self. This I believe is down to the excellent care and attention,
all the fabulous activities, food and outings and fantastic staff here.
I really cannot fault the home anywhere and would highly recommend it.
Mum has decided to stay here permanently now, she sees The Gables as her home.

The staff were great at taking care of my Grandad who suffered from dementia. Nothing seemed to faze them. They did everything with a loving, warm, caring and cheerful approach. Because of this, my Grandad was happy and comfortable until the end of his life. The staff are brilliant in every way and
were very good at keeping me informed of any news regarding my Grandad.

Situated in a quiet area. Friendly atmosphere and greeting on arrival. Bedroom clean, but compact with en-suite (toilet and basin) wardrobe and hangers and chest of drawers, bedside cabinet with table lamp and tray on wheels. Staff call button available 24/7sperate shower/bathroom. Sitting rooms large
with plenty of arm chairs. Food very good, drinks available throughout the day. Nice outside garden to sit in when the weather is good.
Mother is very happy with the home and her care.

My mother was at The Gables for approximately 3 years and 3 months until her death in August 2017. When we were looking for a care home for Mother, The Gables was the best we found in the area. It was a real home for Mother, not an institution like most we looked at.
The staff were amazing, caring
and treated Mother like a family member.
All Mother's family were made welcome when we visited.
We have all recommended The Gables to friends and family. I would like to thank all the staff for making Mother's last years the best they could be.

Julie Tyler

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2016

Julie Tyler began her career in care as a domiciliary carer in 2006 after deciding it was time for a career change, and she says she has never looked back.
In 2013 Julie moved to residential care and began working her way up to deputy manager, and then registered manager of The Gables in 2016.
She says that working in this industry allows us to 'Touch people's lives and make a difference to them even in the darkest of times'.
