I spent ten days in Langdon House to recover from a knee replacement operation before returning to my flat, where I live. I liked: Kind, friendly staff and my comfortable and quiet room. I did not like: No shower available, although I asked several times and would not have needed help. The food: Too
much starch and not nearly enough fresh veg and fruit. Meals were not healthy or appetising, despite the write-up in the brochure. Breakfast is especially poor.

I viewed three other care homes prior to choosing Langdon House. As you enter Langdon, you feel welcome. I love the light layout. The rooms are bright, and I love the large windows in all the rooms. The staff have always welcomed me and respected my views. I am involved in my mother's care. The manager
is caring and understanding. The staff are lovely, and my mother loves her carers. The housekeepers are excellent and keep the home lovely and clean.

1. After meals residents are not always assisted in cleaning food from clothing.
2. Flooring in residents' room often feels sticky as if it has not been cleaned properly.
3. Resident wardrobe is cluttered with storage of excessive amounts of incontinence pads.
4. Medication is not always given correctly,
although we do get informed of these discrepancies.
Reply from Clare Robinson, General Manager at Langdon HouseThank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that there are aspects of dissatisfaction in our service at times and I would encourage that you bring these to the attention of the home manager who will act on these at the time they occur. I am pleased that your Mum is satisfied and happy with the care and support she receives.

I sometimes feel my mother's room is not as clean as it should be. There have been a number of occasions when I have visited and the room smells of urine and the floor is sticky. There is a general feeling about the home that it is in need of some refurbishment. There have been a number of occasions
when we have been informed my mother has either been given the wrong prescription or it has been missed. This is not acceptable.
My mother enjoys being at the home and seems to feel at home.
Reply from Clare Robinson, General Manager at Langdon HouseThank you for your feedback, this always assists us in evaluating our service. I am sorry to hear you feel your Mothers room feels unclean, our cleaning services are audited daily. Your mother's room has recently had a flooring upgrade and the home has been assessed for further areas of refurbishment. If you would like to discuss any concerns with medication administration please get in touch with the home manager who will be happy to meet with you to look at this. I am pleased to hear that your mother enjoys being at the home and feels at home.

Mum moved into Langdon House in August 2020 when we could no longer meet her dementia care needs at home. It was a huge decision and difficult to make at the time and initially I was just relieved to see that she was safe and happy.
Later, as I got to know the team who cared for mum I was moved to
see the genuine rapport that had grown between mum and the staff. I was able to visit mum daily during her palliative care and can’t imagine a kinder environment or a more caring team of people.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.538) out of 10 for Langdon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.538 for Langdon House is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.538
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Langdon House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
