Very satisfied, well preplanned and documented. They offered me support and answered a few questions, which left me feeling in a good place regarding my brother's care and conditions. Thank you.

I have had five relatives over two generations living in Langdon House. The convent environment is pleasant and airy with a lovely garden, secure but easily accessible.
The care is respectful and personalised and would be excellent if there were enough permanent staff. They have changed from home-cooked
in house food (which was excellent) to out-sourced less nutritious products. Their dementia care is very good.
It's easy to get involved and carers are very friendly and it feels like home.

My father has been in Langdon House for 20 months now. He is allowed to be as independent as he can be and he is treated with respect and dignity. He has a good relationship with the staff and they are always very friendly and helpful. He is as happy here as he could be, considering he is 91 years old
and fading into dementia. The staff are well-trained in dementia.

My mother receives good care, exceptions being the use of agency personnel who do not have good knowledge of English and therefore create stress for my mother. The laundry service is very good, the staff are very helpful unfortunately the food generally is not too good, mainly it is cold. The activities
are varied and entertaining. The staff I have encountered have been courteous and polite.

Good variety of food. Approachable, caring staff. Sometimes I need to get the manager if Mum has been waiting more than 15 minutes to be hoisted to go to the toilet.

I can't begin to say how happy I am that my mum has been lucky enough to take up residence in Langdon House.
From the moment you walk through the door, you realise what an 'uplifting' place this is...so many smiles and happy faces from both staff and residents alike.
My mum suffers from a mild dementia
but she's had no anxiety from moving from her home into this very 'caring' environment.
She's SO much happier being there, and we (her family) feel relieved that she is being looked after really well, gets her medication on time and is being stimulated daily by all the staff/other residents and all the activities that go on there.
Everywhere is clean and tidy and doesn't have the nasty smell that is so often associated with care homes.
They are a superb example of a care home done REALLY well. I have nothing but respect for them, for what they are achieving there, which is happiness and respect for the elderly. This should be the case in ALL care homes in this country.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.538) out of 10 for Langdon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.538 for Langdon House is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.538
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Langdon House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
