The staff at Rose Cottage Residential Home are simply magnificent. They provide a very personal, emotional bond with the residents. My mum was with them for 8 months and in a very short while they had become her friends as well as her carers. They treated mum with the utmost dignity and respect and went way beyond our expectations. The food is excellent and is freshly prepared and cooked on the premises. It is extremely nutritious with plenty of choice. The rooms are tastefully decorated and well maintained and mum was made to feel very much at home. Whilst quality control surveys establish a standard of care those same quality control processes do not do justice to the level of personal commitment and support that the staff provide to the residents. Every last one of them genuinely went out of their way to make mum's stay comfortable and enjoyable. The care and support that was given to mum in her last days was beyond anything I could have expected.
Thank you for your excellent review. Our staff will be very pleased to receive such an accolade. It was a pleasure to have cared for and known your mother. Thank you again,
On visiting my Mother during the six years she chose to live at Rose Cottage all the staff greeted me with a smile as I arrived. They were never impatient with the residents and always very helpful and caring. There was always some stimulating activity for the residents to take part in. After the severe fall, my mother had before Christmas 2016 I cannot praise the care given. When I reported that mum could come out of hospital to an "interim" bed the assistant manageress said she could return to Rose Cottage as it "was her home". They nursed her superbly and also gave the family such support as she became weaker. When she died aged 102 there was no rush to clear the room, her name was left on the door " it was a matter of respect" was the reply when I thanked them. Mum always said it was the best thing she could have done moving there. The garden is wonderful too.
She was gently encouraged to participate in the activities and events which were provided on a regular basis. She enjoyed the chats she shared with all the staff, and would share a smile and a laugh with them.
Her family were always made to feel welcome and were able to join in with the activities with her.
The 'end of life' care she received could not have been done better. She was comforted and helped along her journey, and the staff could not have been kinder to us, as her family. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were certainly helped by making a very difficult time a little easier.
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to give us such a positive review. The staff will be delighted to have received such praise for their work. We shall miss mum and of course all of you who have become such familiar faces to us all. Thank you again
Friendly staff, clean premises. Food good. Interaction with clients could be improved by spending more time with them.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the review of Rose Cottage. We appreciate the feedback. We are one of very few homes which provide a counsellor to spend one-to-one time with people living in the home. She arranges to spend time specifically with those who want to see her and everyone is free to avail themselves of this service at no cost to our clients at any time.
I have had one relative and one friend reside at Rose Cottage over a period of nine years. I have nothing but praise for the management and care staff- all are exceptional!
Thank you for taking the trouble to complete the review on carehome.co.uk. We are very pleased to receive your very positive comments about Rose Cottage and I am glad that we were able to fulfil the trust you placed in us all those years ago.
The staff were very friendly and I am not blaming them. I feel that the home should not take people with dementia unless some very intense training is undertaken.
I did only pay a deposit but since collecting Mum after a stay of only one afternoon have not even received a phone call of explanation.
We are very sorry to read your review and comments relating to the poor care. Clearly, we failed this particular person. We have to balance the views expressed here with the very many positive reviews we receive, both on this website and from families who write to us, thanking us for the good care...
My mother lived at Rose Cottage for nearly four years after the death of her husband. She weighed just over 7 stones on arrival (due to depression and the awful stress of my father's last illness). She was treated with great kindness; fed with appropriate and appetising food; kept spotlessly clean; encouraged to participate in many of the activities; and found two excellent friends.
When much later she became terminally ill, the staff looked after her even though she was eventually bedridden; this was a great deal of work as she needed the kind of 24-hour care usually provided in a nursing home. I am so grateful that they saved her from the disruption that hospitalisation causes. She died in May this year and I was able to be with her; it was peaceful and pain free for mother and comforting to be with people who knew and cared about her.
May I end my life somewhere like this.
Thank you so much for you lovely review. It was a pleasure to have looked after mum. The sad thing is when a resident passes on, we also lose the family who have become our friends and form part of landscape of the home. We shall miss her and you, but you know you are always welcome and we look forward to seeing you again.
Mother was a resident at Rose Cottage form March 2015 until her death on 1st Dec 2015. The care she received was v. good - Managers in particular were very helpful and caring. Food was excellent and dining room was welcoming and very beautifully set up. Activities were varied and much appreciated.
Thank you very much for your positive review of Rose Cottage. We appreciate all feedback and are happy to know you were very satisfied with the management, facilities, and general standards within the home. We were glad of the opportunity to care for your mother. Thank you.
Although my mum was only in Rose Cottage for the last 6 weeks of her life, we greatly appreciated the quality of her care during her time there. The staff and carers were always friendly and helpful. Mum enjoyed the excellent meals and looked forward to the daily programme, helping to keep the residents active and entertained. It was a great comfort to us to know that mum was in such caring hands during her last few days.
Thank you for your very positive endorsement of our service which is appreciated. It means a lot to our staff to know they provided a good service and that they cared well for your mother. The feedback is very helpful to us to know what we are doing right or what needs to be improved. It also helps inform others looking for good care homes what others think of our service.
Friendly and well managed care home. Liked the dining room with windows on both sides overlooking beautiful, well managed gardens. Always tablecloths and cloth napkins in napkin rings on table and flowers very nicely presented.
We appreciate your positive feedback and we are glad to know you liked the environment!
My mother had been a resident at Rose Cottage for ten years. Throughout her stay there she was treated with great care and dignity. The staff and management were unfailingly friendly and would always have time for her. As she grew more frail her needs increased greatly but the staff rose to the challenge. I would not hesitate to recommend Rose Cottage to anyone looking for a care home and am very grateful to everyone there for providing such a safe haven for my mother in her last years.
Thank you for your complimentary feedback. For us, it was always a pleasure to look after mum and after 10 years at Rose Cottage, we are delighted to receive such a positive review. Mum was always a kind and gentle person and it was a always a privilege to have cared for her over the 10 years she was with us.
My father spent his last 3 years at Rose Cottage. The care was excellent. He had an ideal room which gave him privacy and views over the countryside which he enjoyed. The staff care was excellent and he was able to join in many of the activities held at Rose Cottage and he particularly liked the outings. He loved his food which was well prepared. His family appreciated the care he had in his lately.
Thank you very much for your very positive feedback. We are glad that your father was happy here and we shall certainly miss him! We always appreciate feedback and we are grateful that you took the time to complete the review. Best wishes to you.
My mother was a resident at Rose Cottage for 11 and a half years until her death this August. The staff are very friendly and caring and I knew that mum was in the best place for her. Odourless and warm. Given that Rose Cottage is a residential home, I feel that the care mum received was excellent and as a qualified nurse myself, am aware that it is one of the best homes in the area. It was mum's 'home' in the full sense of the word, especially at the end, for which I will be ever grateful.
My mother lived in Rose Cottage in late summer 2015. She was 98 was in possession of her faculties and was very sociable, but frail, though she could walk with a wheeled frame. She wanted a home with company, conversation, activity, good quality environment (especially food) and safe, accurate management of her health and medication. She found all these at Rose Cottage and felt very fortunate that a place had been available. The staff were friendly, caring and engaged with residents. She especially enjoyed the garden and areas to sit outside and sing the praise of Rose Cottage to all her visitors.
Thank you for your very positive review and we are very pleased that your mother enjoyed her relatively brief stay with us. She was certainly a very alert 98 year old and clearly enjoyed the experience of living a in an active community. We were very sorry that her health deteriorated suddenly and that her stay with us was foreshortened but we are glad that she was happy during her stay with us.
From the management to all the staff my mother was cared for in a warm homely and safe environment. She was there for respite periodically for three to four years and a permanent resident for eighteen months. At all times she was clean, bathed regularly helped to dress if required. food choices good and well cooked. Medication administered correctly, some care reports left in the room so I could verify what she told me as she had dementia (e.g worship, clothing and hairdressing). She loved the activities which were almost daily, bingo, craft week, quizzes, musical instruments, church services. They were taken out at least monthly if possible. Care home and gardens immaculate.
My elderly mother spent three years at Rose Cottage Residential Home. In their time I was delighted with the care she received. The home provided plenty of entertainment in particular the music which mum loved. As a family we were welcomed on our visits and I got to know the staff very well. I felt completely confident that mum was well fed and looked after with great kindness and dignity at all times. Any minor problems were dealt with quickly. Wheelchair could be used free of charge if families needed to use them on outings. We were not expected to pay for little extras and I enjoy being invited up for Christmas dinners with mum! It wasn't petty! A clean and well run care home and this place has an excellent reputation in this area.
My mother has been in Rose Cottage since May and I cannot thank the staff enough for the care and attention my mother receives from the lovely staff. They are always attentive and inform us of any concerns about mums health. The home is spotlessly clean and the rooms are kept beautifully. There are plenty of willing staff who truly care for the residents.

I love Rose Cottage, it’s homely, all of the staff are passionate and genuinely care. Our staff stay for a long time and it feels like one big family. Away from work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and taking my dog for walks in the country.

I have worked at Rose Cottage since 2017. Prior to that, I was a carer and a cook. I thoroughly enjoy my position here - it's my calling! I find my work very satisfying and fulfilling, spreading happiness and joy around the home. I enjoy encouraging independence and finding new skills with our residents, as well as remembering and making new memories. Our programme is fully informed by the residents, and it is very varied - from exercise to all sorts of crafts and even our own weekly religious service. We run a breakfast club and a supper club, which makes mealtimes more convivial. I also run the day centre at Rose Cottage, available for local people 65+ to drop in and enjoy activities and a meal with our community.

I joined Rose Cottage nearly 15 years ago, working my way up from care assistant to senior carer and into my new role. I support the managers and the rest of the team to oversee care plans, liaise with healthcare professionals, check medication, do care reviews with families and supervise staff. I love the role - it is different every day and I enjoy making a difference to the residents' lives.

I joined as a Senior Care Assistant in 2020, and I've been in care for over 35 years. I support residents with their everyday lives, making sure they have the help they need to maintain independence and dignity. My favourite part of the role is without a doubt interacting with the residents - learning about their lives - you learn something new every day! I cannot imagine myself doing anything else but working in care and supporting residents to thrive.

The best thing about my job is that I never know what the day will bring! Along with my other maintenance colleague, I support life at the home by ensuring systems are ticking, we are compliant with all safety regulations, and that residents' spaces are always functional, comfortable and welcoming. I have worked in maintenance for a while, and I also used to be a carer, and I like how my new role combines both aspects of my professional life.
