I initially contacted Cromwell House with a telephone inquiry regarding respite care for my mother-in-law and my call was received by a friendly and helpful young woman, who went out of her way to help answer all my questions. We experienced that same professional approach when the manager visited Mum’s
home to introduce herself. Her gentle and kind manner and warm sense of humour put both Mum and me at ease. As we chatted it became obvious that care for residents was the priority in this establishment. A well-led team of staff have continued to prove, throughout the two years Mum has lived there, that every resident is treated as an individual with their own particular needs which are accommodated by kind, caring and friendly staff. Relatives and friends when visiting are accorded that same warmth. It’s a pleasure to visit and be greeted by smiling faces.

I live a long way from Norwich and access is difficult for me especially with the Covid pandemic. I am the sole relative and deal with all paperwork and financial matters.
I have had all the support I feel I need from the staff at Cromwell House. My relative has been there for 8 years and has always
been well cared for. He seems very happy and content. Staff do not hesitate to contact me if there is a problem.

Our father is in the best place he could possibly be, safe and extremely well cared for. The relaxed and homely atmosphere hits you as soon as you walk through the front door. Everyone is made to feel welcome. We have nothing but praise for all the staff who make this such a special place to live.

Dad is doing remarkably well considering the constraints placed on Cromwell House due to Covid and restrictions on visiting arrangements, which I clearly understand is to protect the residents the team and ourselves. It is wonderful to visit Dad once again briefly indoors, the visits are conducted
by the team at Cromwell House with kindness and great respect to both Dad and myself. When I was able to first visit Dad after the most recent lockdown, he looked remarkably well, a credit to all at Cromwell House, who are always willing to listen and take into account Dad’s individual health and well-being needs. The team demonstrate an enthusiasm conducive towards providing a happy safe home for Dad.

My 98-year-old mother moved in on March 1st. For the first two weeks she was in quarantine in her room. I was able to talk with her through an open window. She was very down in the dumps at that time. Since then she's made new friends and joined in with the activities on offer. Mum says that the meals
are nice which is important as it punctuates the day.
I can't comment on the inside of the home as I've only been into the chapel to visit mum.
The staff are lovely and seem very caring and the pastoral care has been excellent
The only negative comment I can make is that Mum only has a bath once a week which is not enough. A daily shower should be available at least.

I could not fault any aspect of my mum's care, cleanliness, friendliness, caring, inclusiveness and attention all of which extended to our family as well as to Mum. Real 'homely home' and carers are more like friends. Extensive range of activities.
On reflection, I feel very privileged that Mum was
offered a place. Cromwell House is a very special place.

I have visited every Friday for many months and hope to do so whenever possible. You can see my impressions of Cromwell House. I have visited many care homes, mostly in Kent and I've yet to find any that 'tick all the boxes' like Cromwell.

I have just spent nearly a week on an extended visit to a relative who has been a resident at Cromwell House for over a decade. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the level of care excellent, the place is very clean and well-maintained.
Staff are invariably polite and helpful and the food is
highly rated by the residents. There are activities every day and very pleasant communal areas.
This is an outstandingly good care home in my opinion.

Exemplary care; kind, patient, energetic and engaged staff who consistently go the extra mile and more. We cannot recommend Cromwell House more highly. In the 2/3 months, our relative has been a resident we cannot fault it in any way. I wish every care home was such a busy, fun and resident focussed

Our mother moved into Cromwell House in April 2016 on a temporary basis but found she settled in with the residents and staff so well she asked to make it her permanent home. The atmosphere in the home is always peaceful and the staff are kind and respectful. As a family we had looked at several homes
but this stood out as the right one for mother.

My mother has been in Cromwell House since December 2017 and has settled in very well due to the excellent care. She attends all the activities which are on twice a day and her health has improved considerably as she is being well looked after.

My godmother was very well cared for. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were unfailingly kind to her. She really did feel at home in Cromwell House and relatively happy. I say ’relatively’ because she disliked growing old and everything that comes with old age. But she always had a smile
for people, she enjoyed the activities, and she said the food was good! So she was contented with where she was living and was never stressed or unhappy. She loved the gardens which are very well maintained, and colourful in the summer. She and I spent many occasions sitting in the sun, wearing one of the many sunhats which you could borrow from the hat stand. Thank you, Cromwell House.

I came to live in Cromwell House on March 19th, 2016.
I have known a little about this home as I had a sister who used to work here a few years ago.
This home has such a warm atmosphere and so much love, care, and patience is shown to us.
The food is very good.
The staff all seem to get on so well
together and seem to find time to talk to us which I find really good.

I have been in Cromwell House for 3 and a half years and have been very happy here.
I have been impressed by the friendly atmosphere, the standard of care, the willing, cheerful and helpful carers and the way staff cope with individuals needs.
My room is pleasant, though small, with a view out to
the well-kept gardens with comfortable chairs and sun umbrellas. All rooms have an en-suite with a shower and bath a short walk along the corridor.
Activities are many and varied ie, films, musicians playing, singing, with and without the residents, keep fit, games, readings, expeditions, services in the residents chapel and transport to the Methodist church on Sunday. The hairdresser, chiropodist and dentist all visit.
There is a safe in every room and a code to prevent unauthorised people from entering and leaving. There is a fire alarm practice once a month.
Administration of Cromwell House is very good. Managers are in close touch and any difficulties are soon dealt with.
At least one incident suggested that the same was not true at the centre. Perhaps Cromwell should be given more freedom.

I have been made very welcome in this home and my efforts to assist in the welfare and entertainment of my fellow residents have been much appreciated.

My mother arrived at Cromwell House in August 2016 to be nearer to us in Norfolk. Ever since she has been in Norwich she has had nothing but praise for the home and the care staff. She is so pleased with her room and the new - the gardens. We are so pleased with the high standard of care and cleanliness
of the home and also the high standard and variety of the food provided throughout the day. Within days of her arrival, she went on a trip into Norfolk - which she so enjoyed. The programme of (high) activities at the home is so very varied and stimulating. The standard of the home so reflects the high expectations of the management.

Aunty has been a resident of Cromwell House for ten years. Over this time she has had many health issues - each time the staff have looked after her with kindness and professionalism. Aunty is very happy and joins in when she can with all the trips and activities. The management and seniors have kept
me informed as to her health and welfare, and the family feel we can contact them at any time.

The managers and all the staff were very kind, efficient and helpful. The rooms were kept clean, and the meals were very varied and good. I highly recommend this home.

Jennifer Howes

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2003

Jennifer began her journey at MHA Cromwell House in 2003 as a care assistant, steadily progressing through roles including senior carer and assistant manager, before becoming home manager in 2008. While she initially hadn’t aspired to management, her passion for care and the supportive culture at MHA led her to grow into the role. Colleagues recently recognised her long service with flowers and a special cake, celebrating her commitment to the home, which offers residential and respite care for 38 residents.


Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared how a flatmate introduced her to MHA Cromwell House and how she instantly connected with its warm atmosphere. Despite early doubts about a management path, she embraced new responsibilities, drawing on her frontline experience to relate to her team and lead with empathy. The challenges of the pandemic further reinforced her resilience and sense of purpose.
