I have always wanted to come to Cromwell House; when I needed more care, and I have been here for a year now. I was fortunate in that one of the larger rooms were available; I know some rooms are quite small. I have settled in very well, in spite of all the problems caused by Covid-19, and I am full of praise for the staff. As well as efficient daily routines, we still have a lot of activities, as well as highly organised social occasions such as residents 100th birthday celebrations, fireworks night, etc. I always enjoy meals, although I find "tea", the evening light meal too early at five o'clock, after a very good lunch. So I have a modified version in my room at seven o'clock. An example of how any preferences are catered for. When I moved in, I had to isolate for two weeks, and my family couldn't come in and help. But I survived with lots of help from the carers and have just enjoyed my 96th birthday celebration, making up for my 95th in isolation.

We selected Cromwell House Care Home for Mum as the best local care home to provide the 24/7 care she needed after a series of medical issues made it impossible to provide this securely and reliably at home. Their Christian links and ethos meant that they could cater for Mum's spiritual as well as her physical and emotional care needs. Our assessment has been borne out in all our contacts with staff members who have all been unfailingly courteous, caring, helpful and positive - all key qualities when helping residents settle in after a lifetime of living at home. Mum is still adjusting, but our family are more convinced by her and our experience of Cromwell House that she is in the best place to get the care she needs.

Cromwell House Care Home is a shining example of what a care home can and should be!
I am amazed at the level of care, understanding, kindness and patience the staff have with my parents, and the time they give me to answer all my questions when I visit. Yes, I am very fortunate to now have both my parents living very happily at Cromwell House. At every visit, I see nothing but smiles from staff and my parents. It is a very happy place to live.

The level of care is demonstrated even more visibly in their improved physical and mental health. It is such a joy to see my parents so alive again. Thank you to everybody connected with their care.

I purposely put my mum here from visiting the home and knowing some staff from previously I knew it was a caring clean home that cared about the residents.

This is a very nice home. As with all places, there are 'fors' and 'againsts' but I think there are more 'fors' than 'againsts'. The staff are kind, very open to suggestions for things they want and want to do. Personally, I find the fees very high and I sold my house and the money is nearly all gone, but thank you for the provision of this home.

On the whole, I think I have managed to explain and understand most members of staff.
I found it very difficult to cope with help from new carers. I still like to be as independent as I can and do those things I can do.

This is sometimes difficult with filling in agency staff when they are new and I do understand it must be difficult for them, especially if it's their first time here. They tell me to be patient!

I initially contacted Cromwell House with a telephone inquiry regarding respite care for my mother-in-law and my call was received by a friendly and helpful young woman, who went out of her way to help answer all my questions. We experienced that same professional approach when the manager visited Mum’s home to introduce herself. Her gentle and kind manner and warm sense of humour put both Mum and me at ease. As we chatted it became obvious that care for residents was the priority in this establishment. A well-led team of staff have continued to prove, throughout the two years Mum has lived there, that every resident is treated as an individual with their own particular needs which are accommodated by kind, caring and friendly staff. Relatives and friends when visiting are accorded that same warmth. It’s a pleasure to visit and be greeted by smiling faces.

I live a long way from Norwich and access is difficult for me especially with the Covid pandemic. I am the sole relative and deal with all paperwork and financial matters.

I have had all the support I feel I need from the staff at Cromwell House. My relative has been there for 8 years and has always been well cared for. He seems very happy and content. Staff do not hesitate to contact me if there is a problem.

Our father is in the best place he could possibly be, safe and extremely well cared for. The relaxed and homely atmosphere hits you as soon as you walk through the front door. Everyone is made to feel welcome. We have nothing but praise for all the staff who make this such a special place to live.

Dad is doing remarkably well considering the constraints placed on Cromwell House due to Covid and restrictions on visiting arrangements, which I clearly understand is to protect the residents the team and ourselves. It is wonderful to visit Dad once again briefly indoors, the visits are conducted by the team at Cromwell House with kindness and great respect to both Dad and myself. When I was able to first visit Dad after the most recent lockdown, he looked remarkably well, a credit to all at Cromwell House, who are always willing to listen and take into account Dad’s individual health and well-being needs. The team demonstrate an enthusiasm conducive towards providing a happy safe home for Dad.

My 98-year-old mother moved in on March 1st. For the first two weeks she was in quarantine in her room. I was able to talk with her through an open window. She was very down in the dumps at that time. Since then she's made new friends and joined in with the activities on offer. Mum says that the meals are nice which is important as it punctuates the day.
I can't comment on the inside of the home as I've only been into the chapel to visit mum.
The staff are lovely and seem very caring and the pastoral care has been excellent

The only negative comment I can make is that Mum only has a bath once a week which is not enough. A daily shower should be available at least.

I could not fault any aspect of my mum's care, cleanliness, friendliness, caring, inclusiveness and attention all of which extended to our family as well as to Mum. Real 'homely home' and carers are more like friends. Extensive range of activities.

On reflection, I feel very privileged that Mum was offered a place. Cromwell House is a very special place.

I have visited every Friday for many months and hope to do so whenever possible. You can see my impressions of Cromwell House. I have visited many care homes, mostly in Kent and I've yet to find any that 'tick all the boxes' like Cromwell.

I have just spent nearly a week on an extended visit to a relative who has been a resident at Cromwell House for over a decade. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the level of care excellent, the place is very clean and well-maintained.
Staff are invariably polite and helpful and the food is highly rated by the residents. There are activities every day and very pleasant communal areas.

This is an outstandingly good care home in my opinion.

Exemplary care; kind, patient, energetic and engaged staff who consistently go the extra mile and more. We cannot recommend Cromwell House more highly. In the 2/3 months, our relative has been a resident we cannot fault it in any way. I wish every care home was such a busy, fun and resident focussed place to be.

Our mother moved into Cromwell House in April 2016 on a temporary basis but found she settled in with the residents and staff so well she asked to make it her permanent home. The atmosphere in the home is always peaceful and the staff are kind and respectful. As a family we had looked at several homes but this stood out as the right one for mother.

Jennifer HowesJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 2003

Jennifer began her journey at MHA Cromwell House in 2003 as a care assistant, steadily progressing through roles including senior carer and assistant manager, before becoming home manager in 2008. While she initially hadn’t aspired to management, her passion for care and the supportive culture at MHA led her to grow into the role. Colleagues recently recognised her long service with flowers and a special cake, celebrating her commitment to the home, which offers residential and respite care for 38 residents.

Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared how a flatmate introduced her to MHA Cromwell House and how she instantly connected with its warm atmosphere. Despite early doubts about a management path, she embraced new responsibilities, drawing on her frontline experience to relate to her team and lead with empathy. The challenges of the pandemic further reinforced her resilience and sense of purpose.
