Mum has been living at Cromwell House for two years now. She is cared for extremely well and always tells me how well she is looked after. As I live far away from Norwich, the staff ensure they keep me informed about mum's health and any changes or concerns. Cromwell House is spacious, clean and has
a fresh smell. Activities are organised for residents that are suitable for them. They even had eggs in an incubator - mum loved to watch the chicks when they hatched.

Overall impression of the home is very good, however, we hope that following will be accepted as polite constructive criticism:
- Laundry - the in-house facility is questionable in terms of the fact that incorrect items being regularly returned to respective rooms.
- Toilets - common toilets for residents
and visitors needs cleaning more regularly and need deodorisers.
- Entertainment/activities - my mother and other residents say that they would like a more comprehensive programme of activities during the day and that they should last longer.

Mother started residing at Cromwell House early July and has settled in very well, no doubt with the assistance and understanding of all the staff. In talking to her she only has praise for the staff, the comfort of her room and very good food. Her only criticism is the portions of food could be larger.

I was made very welcome when I arrived here on August 18th, made friends very quickly.
A very enjoyable outing to the Norfolk Broads with lunch on the boat, very memorable.

I have two ex-colleagues in the nursing home. (ages 91 and 93). Both are settled in and happy - the 91 year old has only just taken up residence. He is still mobile and his son takes him shopping in a supermarket. The body is failing but he is mentally alert.
The 93 year old is wheel-chair bound. We
talk as of old although he is less mentally alert. He sits in the entrance listening to classical music CD's.

I have not been in any other home so cannot make a comparison, but I would think this is as good as you could get. The main fault I find it that carers are in such a hurry and don't listen to what you ask them to do. I do not think they have enough training in things like putting shoes on. Some are
good at cutting up food or feeding people who do not feed themselves, but some just stand about in the dining room talking among themselves. Some of the carers talk to us as is if we were naughty children. I think 2 hour shifts are too long, especially when many residents have a degree of dementia.

Jennifer Howes

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2003

Jennifer began her journey at MHA Cromwell House in 2003 as a care assistant, steadily progressing through roles including senior carer and assistant manager, before becoming home manager in 2008. While she initially hadn’t aspired to management, her passion for care and the supportive culture at MHA led her to grow into the role. Colleagues recently recognised her long service with flowers and a special cake, celebrating her commitment to the home, which offers residential and respite care for 38 residents.


Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared how a flatmate introduced her to MHA Cromwell House and how she instantly connected with its warm atmosphere. Despite early doubts about a management path, she embraced new responsibilities, drawing on her frontline experience to relate to her team and lead with empathy. The challenges of the pandemic further reinforced her resilience and sense of purpose.
