Our close, family friend has been a resident of Furze Hill for 3 years. Since leaving her own home, where she was struggling to cope, she has taken on a new lease of life, and couldn't be happier. She is so well looked after in every respect - all the staff are so friendly, helpful, always smiling and
polite, very caring. The surroundings are modern and the facilities are excellent - outings and in-house entertainment are great. Food is great, with a good choice at every meal - an excellent 'hotel'!

Mum has been at Furze Hill for 10 months and the change in her has been remarkable. From wanting to stay in her room all day and waiting to die, she now joins in most of the activities and has an interest in life again.

I cannot praise the staff enough. Nothing is too much trouble and every Saints

Day/festival or what have you is celebrated with fancy dress, themed food, entertainment etc which I think the staff enjoy as much as the residents! All the staff are pleasant, caring and seem to enjoy their work. Management is very approachable and friendly.

The home is clean and well kept with no unpleasant smells. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable with a large en-suite shower room. Almost every day there is some sort of entertainment or activity and a programme is given to all the residents so they can plan their week ahead.

I am made to feel very welcome when I visit. The fresh flowers on the tables are a nice homely touch.
A well run caring care home.

My mother thoroughly enjoyed her stay at Furze Hill, despite her health at the time which led to her going on to hospital. It was great having a choice of having meals in her room, the dining room or upstairs, where she sometimes would entertain family and friends. The attention and care were always
there and this gave her a sense of security and reassurance. Staff were pleasant. The facilities and layout excellent and the whole experience was very positive.

After visiting Furze Hill on numerous occasions I feel it is a care home working at a very high standard. It is bright warm and inviting.
All Staff from the office to the kitchen are always on hand with a friendly smile.
The chaplain is an added bonus as faith is important to my aunt.

The facilities are bright and attractive and the building is kept very clean. The laundry service is particularly good. The meals are served in a pleasant dining room but the main meal of the day often resembles a poor school dinner and little attempt is made to get residents to eat fruit.
The lack
of activities in recent months has been worrying and little attempt has been made to book one-off providers.
Reply from Aaron Bellward, Head of Care at Furze Hill HouseThank you for your feedback, Geraldine. Our new activities team leader starts on the 12th November and this is a full-time role. However, there has been a provision of activities whilst recruitment was in process although we accept that this does not meet our standards. Fruit is served at breakfast and on each snack trolley and as desert several times a week. We have taken your points on-board and will be monitoring this. We do operate an open door policy and if you have any further issues please don't hesitate to pop in and see one off us.

The home is increasingly looking for ways to stimulate the residents. They are given respect and feel safe.
I genuinely feel that the carers have the best interests of the residents at heart.

My mum has been at Furze Hill for just over a year. She has flourished with the care provided - her mobility has improved as has her general wellbeing. The staff are wonderful - I witness lots of interaction with residents when I visit and mum clearly likes them very much. There are lots of activities
for residents to join in with which is great, and the bedrooms are all spacious with en-suite shower rooms. I haven't been present at mealtimes but mum assures me that she enjoys the food and has lots to eat! It's a big weight off my mind to know mum is safe and well cared for.

It would be difficult to find a better care facility than Furze Hill. I did visit a considerable number of care homes prior to choosing Furze. The management team here are friendly and efficient and are always available to discuss any of the problems that inevitably arise with dementia patients. The
care staff are superb. Nothing is too much trouble and the commitment and kindness that they show to residents and relatives is so reassuring. We still have the occasional hitch with hearing aids that go missing or not fitted correctly. Overall excellent.

Furze Hill is a lovely, bright modern home. Kept at a very high standard by the housekeeping team. In the past three years my mum has lived there it always smells fresh and there are usually fresh flowers around, which makes it feel very homely when visiting.
The staff are friendly and a cheerful bunch,
who care for the residents with respect and warmth. The rooms are bright and modern, with good quality fittings. They are a really good size, with large walk in shower rooms in them all. The soft furnishings have recently been replaced, and residents were asked to choose fabric designs they liked for their rooms, which I thought was lovely. There are lovely views from most rooms over the gardens or countryside, and many quiet areas to sit. I would highly recommend this home,as I know my mum is safe, warm and well looked after at a time in her life when failing health make life very difficult for her.

Mother seems very happy. Place is always clean and tidy. Mum joins in as much as able as she is blind, this sometimes is difficult. She enjoys quizzes and bus journeys out and singers/musicians. The carers are always kind and helpful. She mostly likes the food. The reason she sometimes does not is because
of nausea, not to do with the food.

The home is light and airy. All the rooms are spacious and have a view over the gardens or countryside. The staff are kind and caring and take an interest in individuals. There are activities every afternoon for those who want to join in and trips out. A comfortable, happy and friendly home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.788)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.788) out of 10 for Furze Hill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.788 for Furze Hill House is calculated as follows: ( (227 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 273 Ratings = 4.788
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Furze Hill House is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
