I read the care quality commission report and it was really good but when you are seeking a care home for your mother you are, inevitably, anxious as to whether the reality matches this accolade. It did in every way.

We visited a number of care homes but within 5 minutes of showing us around, my

sister and I knew it was right for our mother. The staff accommodated her efficiently and expediently and for the next year, cared for her in the way you would want as a relative.

The staff were very friendly and caring and reflected the ethos of Heathcote. The stability of the staff team, was a real bonus. They attended to her in her declining health and dealt professionally in the matters associated with her death. I will be recommending Heathcote to friends and family.

I first visited a friend's uncle who was a resident in Heathcote House over a year go. I was very impressed. I have worked in care over 30 years. 11 years as a Matron, so when I was approached by the son of a family friend for recommendations where to place his mother, I had no hesitation in recommending
Heathcote House. I have been visiting again today and found it to be spotlessly clean, no smells (unpleasant ones). Residents all look happy, nicely dressed. Staff interact all the time with the residents, despite being busy they always have time for residents and visitors. Food looks delicious, surroundings are homely, warm and inviting.

Fantastic facility, felt like a home from home, the staff are all brilliant.
I can't rate this place highly enough.
My mother was only there for a few months before she passed away but the staff are fantastic, they became friends, not just carers.

I only get to visit my aunt every 6 months because of the distance, however each visit fills me with delight as I can see how happy and content my Aunt is. She is so well cared for and the staff are all so kind. Nothing is too much trouble for them. She always tells me about all of the activities that
take place and the arts and crafts and flower arranging, they even have a Zumba class! Which I'm told all of the residents love.
The manager always offers me lunch when I visit and tea and coffee are always available. When I leave I feel so comfortable that my aunt is safe, and exceptionally well looked after.

Well done to staff for taking Uncle out in wheelchair on a shopping trip. Something to be enjoyed at first visit to Heathcote sure it won't be the last, even at 90. A huge thank you to staff for birthday cake and sing a long in March.

I found the home and staff to be very welcoming on my initial visit and decided there and then to have my dad stay Heathcote.
His room was very well decorated and the care received was excellent. I cannot recommend this home enough.

I have nothing but praise for this excellent care home. The rooms are clean, my bedroom quiet, and the staff cheerful and helpful. The food is good I am a vegetarian, and everything is done to keep us active and interested. The library calls regularly and I am lent a big pile of books.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.733)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.733) out of 10 for Heathcote is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.983 for Heathcote is calculated as follows: ( (117 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.983
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heathcote is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Sylvia Ames

Job Title: Registered Manager

Sylvia Ames started as a night carer in a nursing home to fit around family life. Since then she has worked as a night carer, senior care worker, deputy manager and then registered manager.
One of her fondest memories at Heathcote is being able to reunite our resident Margaret Dye with her beloved boat Wanderer which she sailed the world in with her husband Frank. The boat now resides in Falmouth Maritime Museum and Sylvia arranged for a virtual tour with the museum's curator.
Margaret was then featured in Sailing Today and recognised around the world for the sailing legend she is.
Sylvie says what makes Heathcote special is the intimate environment and genuine family atmosphere within the home, with strong bonds between staff and residents.
