St Leonards Court is designed for the special needs of elderly people with dementia. Their rooms are tastefully decorated and provide residents with a quality environment for enjoyment of life in later years. Although all rooms are fully furnished, they encourage residents to bring with them items of furniture and personal possessions so that their room can be a true home from home.

St Leonards Court is situated in the pleasant village of Mundford on the edge of Thetford forest. Within easy reach are the local post office, village store and pub whilst residents can enjoy interaction with the local community through the comfort of the main lounge which overlooks the village green. They also have the benefit of the safe enclosed haven of a sensory garden.

Care staff are trained to the highest standards, using an internal training programme, and chosen not only for their skills but also for their warmth, friendliness and caring attitude. They are on hand around the clock to provide professional care that respects the rights and dignity of the individual. The emphasis placed on high quality staff was recently rewarded when the company received ‘Investor in People’ accreditation.

Professionals regularly assess each resident so that they can be sure their needs are met and supply specialized equipment if required. An optician, dentist, and chiropodist visit by appointment, and the in-house hairdressing salon provides all the usual services plus manicures and hand massages. The catering staff provides delicious meals and snacks throughout the day, as well as special dishes for those with particular dietary requirements.

Friendly, helpful and caring staff. I am invariably informed promptly of any issues/concerns affecting my wife, and always made to feel welcome when visiting the home. Whilst cheaper homes are available, I am comfortable and content with the excellent care provided at St Leonards Court and prepared
to pay a modest premium in order for this to continue. Overall, pleased and satisfied with the service provided.

I found this care home very friendly, and the care my mother receives is excellent. I have been unable to visit very often due to cancer treatment, so they keep me updated on events and any treatments my mum might need. They are extremely caring and professional. Mum's enjoying it too.

Welcoming and friendly. It is a happy atmosphere, and the staff are very caring to all residents. An excellent programme of activities and says much that the volunteers who come in, especially those who provide musical entertainment - are happy to come in on a regular basis.

The staff do a brilliant job but need a few more staff as sometimes there's only one staff on at one time. The meals they get are very good, but I do think they need more drinks in a day than what they are getting. One big disappointment is the garden; it needs a lot of work doing to it, and the fencing
wants redoing.

My dad is very happy here, the food is very good and plentiful. The staff are friendly and caring and do their very best for my dad and all the other residents. The staff listen to any concerns raised and show a genuine interest. The activities coordinator is very good and also does a hair dressing
service as well as hand and nails being washed, cut and painted. They all do a fantastic job under pressure, as sometimes staffing levels can be low and challenging.

The staff are friendly and caring despite working in a difficult career. The staff turnover is worrying and I'm concerned that results in a lack of understanding of individuals' needs.

My uncle has been a resident at St Leonards Court for three and a half years. He is very comfortable living here and regards it as his home. The carers provide a very good service in looking after him and meeting his needs. My uncle is treated with respect, and his dignity is maintained. I recommend
this care home.

On admission, February 2021, we were given the impression by the then manager that the home was "run on fun and laughter"! This seemed ideal for Mum. Obviously, the pandemic severely impacted this, plus staff recruitment issues. Mum had a difficult first year - many falls, monitoring her welfare and
health was difficult for us, and not having any prior experience in choosing a care home, knowing what to expect meant we spent that year constantly worried. The new manager has subsequently done really well trying to address our concerns - the general upkeep of the interior and garden was improved. We wanted more activities, more staff and better liaison with relatives. We would like more one-to-one quality time with Mum and a staff member for her to get out into the village more. We have found other residents in her room whilst she's in the lounge and items missing for weeks (glasses, teeth, slippers, which seem trivial, but important part of her care package). We do, however, appreciate all residents have forms of dementia and staff shortages made monitoring difficult. All staff are kind and tender with Mum.
Reply from Jessica Ellis, Manager at St Leonards Court

Thank you for your review, it is much appreciated. Myself and the team will continue to work hard to ensure improvements continue to take place. Continued improvements of activities are the main focus point, with our new activities coordinator starting in the post this month. I appreciate all the support you provide the home and your mother is much loved by all the team.

I am delighted with the ongoing care my father gets at St Leonards Court since he moved there just over a year ago. The manager leads her team of carers exceptionally well, and the positive ethos at the home is inclusive and welcoming to all residents, who are cared for with both kindness and empathy
by all the staff.
The Coronavirus pandemic has changed all our lives irrevocably over the past year, and this has been especially felt in our care homes; I want to recognise the outstanding work and dedication shown by the team at St Leonards Court, who have worked tirelessly to keep our loved ones safe, thank you all so much.

My 76-year-old father-in-law was placed at St Leonards in December after no longer being able to live in his own home. During this difficult time for us as a family and also due to lockdowns it could have been a stressful and worrying time. It has been the complete opposite. The staff at St Leonards
have been nothing short of angels in our minds. My father-in-law has been so settled that what was a temporary arrangement has resulted in him deciding to stay permanently. We have not heard him as happy as he has been, when we speak to him on the phone, for such a long time. He recently said that he feels like part of the family, is well looked after and the food is amazing. He made us laugh by stating that every time he turns around someone is there with a cup of tea. His sense of humour has returned, he has company, which had been missing for some time and is being so well looked after that he looks physically better than he has for many years. We can't thank them enough.

Our mum has been at St Leonards Court since August and has settled in well. She has told me that the staff are very kind and she calls them her ‘guardian angels’. She has thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas period and is impressed with the Christmas tree outside her bedroom window on the village green.
I thank all the staff for their kindness and appreciate the regular newsletters.

My father-in-law has been at St Leonards since February 2020. He has settled in very well with the help and understanding of all the lovely team at the home. The team at St Leonards have made all attempts to allow us to see him in these strange times even shouting through the window! But it makes us

My Grandad has been at the home for over 10-months now and has been treated with the greatest care. Things have been getting harder for him, at a time where everyone's families are divided, it is greatly appreciated that all the staff looks after him as if he was part of their family. I would like to
express my thanks to each and everyone for their hard work and never-ending care they provide to those who we love so dearly at a time when we are apart. Knowing he's looked after by people who go above and beyond each day, thank you, just doesn't seem enough. Please keep up the good work; you're all fantastic.

My dad joined St Leonards during the lockdown in July, which was very difficult for the family. However, the wonderful staff have made him feel so welcome as well as being there with a comforting ear at the end of the phone for us. They always reassure me that dad is happy and enjoying his newfound
family and embracing his new life. He is especially enjoying the wonderful home-cooked meals with extra helpings. Good to know he is eating well.
The garden visits have worked well, weather permitting. However, we were so grateful for a special visit on his birthday, thank you. Just a shame we were unable to join in with his party and cake! Also, yesterday, a visit at the window, before lockdown. To see his little face, smiling and happy was priceless.
The care and compassion he receives are so much appreciated, and I am so very grateful to you all for taking such good care of my dear dad. Thanks to each and every one of you especially during such worrying and challenging times. Stay safe!

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.306)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.306) out of 10 for St Leonards Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.406 for St Leonards Court is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.406
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Leonards Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
