  • St Leonards Court, Thetford
St Leonards Court is designed for the special needs of elderly people with dementia. Their rooms are tastefully decorated and provide residents with a quality environment for enjoyment of life in later years. Although all rooms are fully furnished, they encourage residents to bring with them items of furniture and personal possessions so that their room can be a true home from home.

St Leonards Court is situated in the pleasant village of Mundford on the edge of Thetford forest. Within easy reach are the local post office, village store and pub whilst residents can enjoy interaction with the local community through the comfort of the main lounge which overlooks the village green. They also have the benefit of the safe enclosed haven of a sensory garden.

Care staff are trained to the highest standards, using an internal training programme, and chosen not only for their skills but also for their warmth, friendliness and caring attitude. They are on hand around the clock to provide professional care that respects the rights and dignity of the individual. The emphasis placed on high quality staff was recently rewarded when the company received ‘Investor in People’ accreditation.

Professionals regularly assess each resident so that they can be sure their needs are met and supply specialized equipment if required. An optician, dentist, and chiropodist visit by appointment, and the in-house hairdressing salon provides all the usual services plus manicures and hand massages. The catering staff provides delicious meals and snacks throughout the day, as well as special dishes for those with particular dietary requirements.

We are more than happy with my fathers care it is a very homely place, always kept clean and tidy, the staff are very caring, the residents are always clean, men being shaved and hair washed etc. The ladies have their hair done and always look nice. We can come and go whenever we want offered drinks
and cakes! I know my father always feels safe and secure there this is home to him.

St Leonard's Care Home is like a family. The quality of care is outstanding - all members of staff display this. There is a vibrancy - I love 'The tree' art project and know my father enjoyed painting his autumn leaves! My father is happy - he feels 'at home'.

Thank you to all the excellent staff.

Friendly staff, who are kind to residents. Improvements have been made recently. Dad's bedroom has been decorated and a TV made available to him which must have improved his quality of life as he is bed bound. Staff are always happy to help residents and family alike.

I LOVE THIS NURSING HOME AND THE MANAGER AND STAFF. My Grandmother lives there and is well taken care of, I visited back in July and I have heard she is doing well. Thank you to the Manager and her staff for all they do. I live in America and I feel well assured that the Manager is taking care of
my sweet Grandmother. Wish I was there to help, would love to be there!

My father was brought in for respite after being diagnosed with dementia. I was very apprehensive but I've had nothing but positivity and all the feedback I've needed. The girls here are absolutely wonderful. I would rate this place 11/10!! Fantastic.

Lovely friendly staff, I was made to feel very welcome and to treat it as if it was my grandfathers own home. My grandfather is very content and has a lovely connection with the care staff always having a joke. I especially enjoyed the lovely afternoon tea party they put on, the staff went to great
lengths to make lovely cakes and put out the bunting and I was able to enjoy the lovely party outside in the sunshine with all the residents and the cakes were lovely.

Staff are always very friendly, helpful and attentive to residents needs. Food is excellent, varied and presented well. Resident's rooms are very clean and tidy as is their en-suite. Communal areas are clean, bright, tidy and airy. I would give St Leonards Court a mark of 10 out of 10. I am very pleased
to say that I am happy that my mother is there, being very well cared for by wonderful staff.

My father came to St Leonard's with advanced dementia and severe mobility issues. Immediately, I was impressed by the friendly, open nature of the staff. Dad was not always easy to deal with. However, the carers immediately let us know of any issues that arose as a result of his behaviour or the state
of his health. At all times the staff were kind and cheery. I can genuinely say that I always 'caught' the staff doing something right, in a kind and caring fashion.
We were always made to feel welcome and encouraged to stay as long as we wanted. The food provided was always to a very good standard and Dad’s preferences were always considered. Perhaps the state of the decoration is not pristine, but the level of care, quality of meals and tailoring of support to individual needs more than makes up for that. When the weather allows, the home finds outdoor activities to do. It is awful to place a loved one in residential care, but find a home like St Leonards made is so much easier.

I visit St. Leonard's whenever I can, my mother is looked after very well, she is always clean, tidy, nicely dressed and her room is also very clean. She is treated with respect, dignity and kindness by all the employees. The new Manager is excellent, very dedicated and bringing in new ideas, she is
willing to spend time discussing anything relevant. She has made sure all residents have access to the garden and summer house which has recently been revamped and a pleasure to be in. Overall I am very happy with my mother's care.

I have been recently visiting an old mate of mine, and I can honestly say what a lovely atmosphere St Leonards Court has. The staff are always friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The manager seems to be there all the time and I often see her caring with the residents.

Very clean, excellent care. A wonderful manager who cares for her people and who is trying to improve activities for the residents. I would like the employees to interact with my mother a bit more. She has dementia, a little deaf and cannot see very well; she needs to have conversation with people most
days. I believe diet needs to be improved with more fruit and vegetables. Baked beans were served twice within 3 days. Not a very good menu. I am pleased with the facility and the manageress is very pleasant.

We had to place Dad in a home on Christmas eve, only 3 months after losing Mum. This home was the only available place at the time, but he has been well looked after in our view so we have left him there. We had often thought to get him somewhere closer to us but he has happily settled in and knows
the staff and we are not sure anywhere else could look after him any better. He cannot get up and walk and he has slight dementia. He prefers his own company so stays in his room, but that is his choice. We believe he is looked after as best as the staff can do when sometimes they are low on staff.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.306)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.306) out of 10 for St Leonards Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.406 for St Leonards Court is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.406
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Leonards Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
