This home has always had a lovely feel about it. The staff are always friendly and the residents well cared for. A few months ago when the new manager took over it went up further in my estimations. Nothing is too much trouble and the cleanliness, care and general feel of the home improvement. I know
my relative is in safe hands and as happy as he can be in the care home environment. The food smells and looks divine. Not the most modern home but perfect in my view.

From the first moment I walked in I felt a sense of calm and caring. There was no smell. I was introduced to all the staff and the manager was very helpful and reassuring at a very difficult time. Every time I ring or visit I am made to feel I have made the right decision and nothing is too much trouble
from staying for lunch or my mum's dog staying here with her. I cannot express enough how wonderful it is here. Thank you.

Mum has been at The Old Rectory for about 18 months now. Initially everything was good - the atmosphere between management and staff was very friendly and professional. The staff then started to leave and things went downhill. A lot of agency staff were used which is very unsettling for someone with
dementia. Various people came from head office to keep things going as the manager left (no explanation given). The staff were very stressed and not sure of what was happening, but they keep things going. New staff have now started and today I met the new manager, who seems very enthusiastic about the future. Her priority is the residents and also the welfare and treatment of the staff. I feel mum is happier now there is someone in charge who seems to be aware of their role as manager.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.395)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.395) out of 10 for Old Rectory is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.795 for Old Rectory is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.795
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Old Rectory is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I believe a care home should feel like just that, a home. A place where people feel comfortable, valued, and free to be themselves. Yes, safety, dignity, and high standards of care are non-negotiable, but so too are laughter, good conversations, and those little moments that make life meaningful.

As a manager, I lead with kindness, openness, and a smile. I want my team to feel supported, confident, and proud of the work they do because happy staff make for happy residents. I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves, join in with activities, or share a joke over a cup of tea; after all, joy is just as important as care.

I aim to build a culture where families, staff, and residents feel like one community and where everyone’s voice matters, and individuality is celebrated. For me, it’s about balancing professionalism with warmth, structure with flexibility, and care with a genuine sense of fun. At the end of the day, people may not always remember the paperwork or the policies — but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. And I want everyone who comes through our doors to feel respected, safe, and, whenever possible, to leave with a smile.
