Dorrington House (Wells)

Dorrington House has provided the care my father needs. All the staff are very attentive, helpful and friendly. My dad has dementia and he has been able to settle in, feel at home and make friends with residents and staff alike. There are many activities daily which he can attend or not as he feels. The posting of daily photos on social media is reassuring and helpful when unable to visit. I think Dorrington is a loving, friendly atmosphere, just what he needs and the care is obvious.

My mother settled into Donington House quickly in late February. She is treated very well and speaks very highly of all the staff as do I. She likes her room which is sunny and homely. She is unable to participate in the activities but the other residents do and seem to enjoy the varied programme. the atmosphere is very cheerful and positive all the time Mum is encouraged to do things for herself and the staff are very kind and caring. She enjoys her meals. Overall we are very satisfied with everything at Dorrington House.

My father-in-law moved into Dorrington House Dereham in February 2023. Since day one he has been made to feel welcome and received first-class care. He has been quite poorly since he moved in which was one of the reasons to find him a home with support. He has been looked after and felt supported. When we looked around Dorrington House we immediately felt the homely feel. His first visit was amazing and he wanted to stay. It was quickly sorted so he moved in quickly. He already says that Dorrington is his home, not a home. There is a great sense of teamwork amongst all staff and management. I can't tell you how reassured we feel to know that our dad is in a safe caring environment. Not only have they made Dad so welcome but also all his family and friends.

Staff very polite, very friendly, food very good. My brother seems to be happy and looked after well.

With her worsening dementia we reluctantly put my wife into care just over 12 months ago fearing she would be unable to settle. With excellent and loving care she adapted so well, and 12 months on her physical health has improved dramatically. She appears happy and content. We cannot speak highly enough of this care home.

I have found the care for my husband in every respect, at Dorrington House (Wells), to be excellent. The food is freshly cooked every day and carefully and correctly balanced. The staff can call on nurses and doctors at the local surgery for advice at any time. The phone is answered by a member of staff at all times of day - and night. There are many exercises and activities for all residents. The care is truly personal.

During the past few years, I have found Dorrington House to be more than adequate to provide for my father's needs. Extra care staff joining the team last year have elevated any issues there may have been due to staff shortage. The chef and his team provide a varied menu with birthday cakes on special occasions. The activities team are excellent. The home always looks bright and cheerful due to their efforts. Regular contact when needs arose from team leaders/management is much appreciated. I do feel my father is in a very safe and caring place. Thank you.

This is a kind and thoughtful place with lots of activities during weekends, which keeps my sister-in-law happy. (Long live the activities lady!).

I think Dorrington House is a good place for my aunt to be. She is well looked after and loved by the staff and loves them back. When I come to visit here with my dog, we are made very welcome. My aunt loves the activities, and I think it's amazing that there's something on every day.

My sister and I are very happy with the standard of Dorrington House, Wells.

It gives me great pleasure to complete a review for Dorrington House. After personally caring for Dad at home for the last 6 years I had always promised him he would not go into a care home, however, circumstances with his health changed that. Dad has taken a couple of months to settle but is now at home in Dorrington. The care he receives there is first class, the staff's caring knowledge is first class. They listen to our concerns, treat each resident empathetically and with dignity and will bend over backwards to help you. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. This is a very efficient, understanding, professional care home that treats both residents and their relatives as if they were their own relatives. I cannot recommend the home and staff highly enough.

Dorrington House manages her very well, she is happy and does like and trust the staff, I like to bath her as she will refuse!

I could visit or take my brother out for the day whenever I wanted to and at all times, I felt comfortable with arrangements. Thank you.

The staff cope with my mother very well, she is not an easy person to deal with. The care home is always clean and the staff welcoming.

On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all the staff for the care given to our dad since he moved in following the death of our mum. The phone calls keeping us informed and updates on dads care is appreciated. Also, a big thanks you to the lady in the office for the photos, it is nice to know that dad is joining in with the activities that are regularly put on for the residents. Once again, thank you to the manager and the team.

My father spent nearly 6 years in this home and for all that time I was very happy with his care. In the beginning, he was a walker and provisions were made for him to still be able to go out on his own as in his words "he didn't want to be walked like a dog". Later when he was bed bound he was treated with care and his dignity was kept.

When I visit my wife as I do twice a week I have always found her calm and never distressed. When I am there, the staff always treat my wife and myself with respect and are helpful, although they are not always easy to find. My wife never complains about the hygiene or medical treatment she has to have. When we visit she often has problems with her hearing aids, caused by dead batteries or sometimes lack of batteries. Lack of ventilation is also a problem at times but on the whole, I am satisfied with my wife's treatment. I have no experience with which to make a comparison.

Always helpful. Emails are answered straight away. I feel that there is a good routine going. Food looks and smells appetising. I feed my husband at lunch time or tea time when I can and he eats everything. He can still feed himself finger food.
