One of the first things you notice is the freshness of the air in the building - no cooking or musty smells, a plus sign for me right from the start. A well-designed building, nice rooms, staff excellent, the lady at reception is delightful and most welcoming. The staff seem so kind to my sister - I don't think we could have picked a better home for our 90-year-old sister.

My mother has been at Dorrington House for just over 3 years. She is now not able to walk or say anything but a few words. She has a very good relationship with her carers and is dearly well looked after. The friendliness of the staff is very clear and I am welcome at any time, during the week and the weekend.

I live an almost two hour drive from the home, so communication by email is essential to keep in touch with what my father is doing. I regularly receive photo's and updates in this way. Contact by phone is used to inform me of illness or care issues. I cannot praise the nursing team and admin enough. Dad seems to be encouraged to join in events and these are regular and varied. He now has little recall of what he has been doing, so this contact is very useful. He always seems content with his meals. I do sometimes wonder if he needs to be reminded to change clothing.

My mother seems well cared for and content. She can no longer walk or use her legs so she needs constant attention- especially when she is uncomfortable and needs moving within her armchair. She is 97. Medical attention is quickly available. Staff appear efficient and pleasant. Food is definitely adequate and mother's special requirements are dealt with. My siblings and I are pleased with the home.
