Thomas Tawell House on the North side of Norwich city centre, provides dedicate care and support to older people, specialising in support for people with a visual impairment or sight loss.

Recently purchased by Black Swan care group, the home is being extensively refurbished to create a bright and comfortable environment for the residents.

Most of the 37 bedrooms have en-suite facilities and residents are welcome to decorate and personalise their rooms. There is a dining room, adapted bathrooms and communal living rooms, including the newly redecorated Mitre Room; throughout the home there’s specialist flooring and colourways to assist residents with sight impairments to move around the home independently.

Sweet smelling plants and flowers have been planted in the private garden to create a sensory experience.

There is an array of stimulating and engaging group and one-to-one activities available for residents to enjoy – based on their preferences.

I am happy with all the staff. All the meals I have had are alright, visitors can come at any time. The home is very clean, my room is quite spacious. Since arriving, all the staff have helped me settle in but there are odd times to be collected with a wheelchair to have my breakfast or lunch and tea
times.

I have regularly visited my friend, who is a resident at your care home, and my experience when visiting has always been good. There was a period when we did not visit but have now resumed visiting and it is still a good experience. Thank you for looking after my friend.

As soon as Mum arrived, she immediately felt relaxed and happy after being so anxious in a home she could no longer manage and living on her own. Thomas Tawell House is like one big family. The nurses and carers genuinely love the residents. It has a really warm atmosphere and they regularly have days
out. They have activities and entertainment at the home and for us, it is a real pleasure to visit Mum because she is so happy.

The manager and staff are all very caring, including the receptionist, carers and laundry staff. When Mum had a problem with her room, they were very quick to respond and move her to a different room, with quieter residents nearby.

Great staff and management. Great home for my mother, friendly and caring. Great food and drinks are available from what I see for a short period before lockdown. The room was very clean and tidy but basic a very small critique as every aspect is great. Thanks!

The management and staff are amazing and genuinely care for the residents of the home. My brother is currently in their care and he is so much happier and content compared to the hospital and another rehab centre that he was sent to. I am concerned that he may be move due to funding which would be disastrous
for both his emotional and physical wellbeing, especially as he has learning disabilities.
