Stratton House has been everything I hoped it would be when my father took up residence. I viewed six different homes prior to this. My first overall impression was of a well integrated and cohesive care team with a well established manager and a responsive approach to its residents. I have not been
disappointed. There is a lively community of caregivers who are always willing to listen and provide the care and support needed by the residents. I have also been surprised at the way I have been made to feel part of that community being offered cups of tea and a friendly smile or chat. Dad has thrived since he joined and has been very happy. The activities that he has taken part in have been wonderful. From ice skating in December, in a wheelchair, to cake making, arts and crafts, musical performances, therapy dogs and a trip to the pub this June. Stratton House has supported him to really enjoy his later life. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home.

Dad has been welcomed and extremely well cared for since he first arrived, initially for a respite stay, a year ago. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, who are all caring and considerate. There is a positive and happy atmosphere between them, with each other and with the residents, and I am
so glad that Dad has chosen permanent residency. As time passes, he is increasingly settled. Last Christmas he became very unwell and the 'hospital at home' team from the hospital, in tandem with Stratton House staff, provided exemplary care. As a family we have all been made welcome and we could not be more pleased to know how well looked after Dad is.

Stratton House was the perfect choice to return to if independent living was no longer suitable. The home is comfortable and has a cosy ambience. The main attribute is the staff, warm friendly and engaging. There is a great effort to "entertain " residents with a wide variety of daily events. The food
is wholesome, well-presented and restaurant quality.

I am always welcomed by friendly smiling staff when I visit. The residents seem comfortable in the lovely lounge areas, and my friend enjoys her food. The current activity programme is great, and there is encouragement to join in. I appreciate the respect for each individual's needs and wishes, and

My father was always against the idea of 'going into a home', but home in the best sense of the word is what Stratton House has become. It feels more like a country house as you walk in and residents can have their own furniture and possessions in their rooms. When asked how he is, my father will tell
anyone that he is well looked after and the staff and food are wonderful. There are always more activities than he is interested in attending, but staff are constantly seeking out the interests and suitable levels of activity of each resident - even those who are bed-bound have regular assessments. The staff team seem harmonious and very caring with good leadership from management.

My mother-in-law has been a resident in this home for a few years now. I can honestly say I believe she receives the best care possible. The home always smells clean. The staff are very good and take care of her needs. The food is really good and she praises the laundry service. A very important factor
for her. I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to others.

We were so lucky that there was a vacancy when my father came out of hospital following surgery.
He was reluctant to give up independent living but could see it was the only way forward.
The staff are attentive, welcoming and warm, and I can not praise them enough.
He has the opportunity to be sociable
when he wants to, but the staff respect the fact that, at times, he just wants peace and quiet.
Beautiful grounds too.

The atmosphere at Stratton House is similar to that of a quality hotel. All staff are very pleasant and helpful and treat my friend with utmost care and the food is great. No request is a problem, which helps in reducing her anxiety.

My mother has been here for about two years now. She was reluctant to leave her own accommodation, but finally realised she could not cope on her own. The atmosphere at Stratton House seems to be very caring. The building is clean but needs some TLC in places. The garden is very pleasant and Mum enjoys
her little strolls. Her only complaint is that the food is somewhat uninspiring and unimaginative - but she has always had high standards in this regard! Overall, value for money as far as I can tell.

Stratton House is a happy and caring home. The staff are friendly, caring and responsive. There could be more variety in activities, such as invites in such as charities, liaison with a nursery for activities, basic cooking i.e. rolling and cutting pastry for jam tarts if residents agree, and slightly
too much dependence on karaoke. The food is good, although the variety of vegetables could be increased. Staff really do make Stratton House the client's home, for example enabling my mother to eat tea in the garden on a lovely, sunny summer evening. Overall, I am very pleased with the care that my mother receives and I feel able to discuss issues with staff.

My father has been a resident for 18 months. He was quickly made at home and the staff at Stratton House bent over backwards to accommodate his needs. Over this time we too have been made to feel a part of the Stratton House family. Nothing is ever too much trouble and the care is delivered with a lightness

My mother wanted to move here as some of her friends had lived here, good choice. It took a while for her to settle in but now she is like part of the establishment and seems to be well loved by staff .The home is clean and tidy and it's like another world away from the stresses of life.

When I was looking for a care home for my mum I visited four in total. I can’t describe the extent of my relief when I walked into Stratton House - finally I had found a home for Mum and not an institution! No locked doors with keypads, easy chairs in many unexpected corners and corridors, a library
with a view, a drawing room, as well as a lounge, a packed dining room at lunchtime, a beautiful garden and above all, kind, caring staff who spend time with everyone! Mum is so settled and happy, I can’t thank you enough!

My father took a while to settle, having had a five-month hospital stay during the latter part of the pandemic. The staff were patient and worked hard to meet his needs. He is now happy, settled and much healthier than before he arrived. The staff are quick to notice any problems and are always kind
and responsive whilst solving these. Having observed how the staff interacts with my dad and other residents during the past year, I couldn’t recommend them more highly! Whilst the home is a bit of a warren of passages on the lower floor as it is in an old building, it has a stunning garden and the toilet and bathroom facilities are all kept very clean.

Our father made a wobbly transition into care, but the management at Stratton House problem solved in a sensitive way so that after a while he settled in. The social community at Stratton House suits him perfectly. All the staff engage with him, and activity coordinators do a great job of providing
additional stimulation and fun. When we, his family, visit, there is a warm welcome. Particular praise should go to the kitchen staff for providing appetising meals and to the site manager and gardener who keeps the Stratton House garden looking lovely. In our father’s own words, “Everybody here is supportive and patient.”

The staff look after Mum with great compassion, gentleness and understanding. They willingly give every assistance to us both in such a friendly way.
All those who are in management roles at Stratton House always make themselves available to answer any questions I may have and are very efficient and
helpful in informing me of updates in Mum's care. I really appreciate this so much.

My father is very happy and comfortable in Stratton House, and his health has improved considerably since being welcomed into the home; in no small measure, I am sure this is due to the care and nurturing he has received from day one. There is a full programme of activities which he enjoys joining in
with, and he thoroughly enjoys the food. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Stephen

Stephen Hill

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2011

I joined the Stratton House family in 2011 as Deputy Manager before becoming Home Manager in 2016. My career in the care sector began in 2001 when I worked for a charity in Bristol in one of their sheltered housing schemes. I started as a Care Assistant and over the years have held roles as Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant, Care Coordinator, Deputy Manager and now Manager.


Over the years, I have completed a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care, an Advanced level apprenticeship in Management (In the business skills sector), an EDI Level 3 NVQ certificate in Management and I am about to start a Level 5 Diploma in Health & Social Care. In 2023, I was awarded MHA’s Leader of the Year Award and we won MHA's Team of the Year in 2024.


I love working at Stratton House and supporting the individuals we care for to live later life well together and treat each other as family.

Emma Richer

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager Joined: 2017

I began my journey at Stratton House in 2017 as a Night Care Assistant and took the opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge by completing both the NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care and Apprenticeship Level 3 Health and Social Care Adult Lead. I was then promoted to Senior Care Assistant for two years before taking the role of Deputy Manager in 2022.


It really is an honour to be part of the Stratton House Team. Our values of Nurture, Respect and Inspire are demonstrated on a daily basis by our amazing team.

I am one of the Senior Care Team at Stratton House and started working at Stratton House in 2020 as a Night Care Assistant working my way to my current role. Prior to this, I worked for two years as a care assistant in-home care based in Scotland. During my time at Stratton House, I was given the opportunity to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.


I love the warm, family-like atmosphere at Stratton House. There is a genuine sense of camaraderie amongst residents and staff which makes coming to work really enjoyable!

Before joining MHA, I worked as an Assistant Wellbeing Co-ordinator for 8 months at another care home for people with dementia and nursing needs.


I went to The European School in Brussels and had a Baccalaureate (similar to A levels), and afterwards, I did a bachelor’s degree (BA) in Media Studies with Languages from the University of East Anglia. My background is in organising events and tours around the world.


I enjoy interacting with the residents at Stratton House the most, and I feel the team at Stratton House is supportive and works well together as a team.
