Bernash Care Home is a luxurious care home set in the heart of Bristol and offers dementia care, residential care, respite and day care.

Leaving home can be a challenging time, so to ensure the smoothest transition, Bernash Care Home boasts an authentic ‘home from home’ experience to help new residents settle.

Established since 1982, this traditional detached residential property, feels less like a hospital ward and more like a home. With only a maximum of 23 residents, this select group can comfortably interact and form new bonds.

The bedroom suites are designed to give residents luxury, privacy and independence. All rooms are equipped with TV and telephone points and a lift provides easy access to all first-floor suites. The majority of the bedrooms have an en-suite and the rooms are both spacious and comfortable.

All the bedrooms and en-suites have a nurse call point which offers residents rapid access to a carer 24 hours a day.

There are two separate lounges in which to socialise and enjoy the company of fellow residents. One of which is a quiet lounge, so there is plenty of opportunity for private moments by yourself or with your loved ones too.

Staff also recognise the importance of activities and invest a lot of time making sure residents enjoy every day. With dedicated activities co-ordinators, there is a full programme of events on a daily basis, many of which actively encourage participation from family, friends and the local community.

In beautiful surroundings, with a team of people who are passionate about what they do each day and by aiming for excellence in every area, the care home makes the experience of living in a care home a fantastic life experience, as well as the best place to receive exceptional care.

Over the past 12 months I have been continually impressed by the diligence and friendliness of all the staff. There is a welcoming atmosphere and my nan’s room is beautiful. Activities are very good and the activities lady is always engaging with all the residents. Altogether a great home that I would
highly recommend.

Our nan lived with our family for many years after her diagnosis with dementia, and it was a really difficult decision for my mum and her siblings to put her into residential care, as she had been cared for, so closely, by them.
The staff at Bernash provided wonderful care for my nan, taking care
of her needs, but also the simple things like making her hair look pretty.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a place for their loved ones.

It is a difficult thing to leave your mother in the care of others but the staff at Bernash were so kind and caring to mum and us as a family they were not strangers at all. They sent pictures of their activities, kept us up to date and were part of our family. They were quite wonderful. Thank you.

The care offered by the staff is outstanding. My nan was happy here, she may not have been able to express it with words, but her eyes were happy and she was relaxed. I'm grateful to the staff for looking after her so well and for always making me and my children feel so welcome, even when we were nervous
or didn't know what to expect. The carers always made us feel at ease and made visits so easy, always willing to chat and offer help and guidance. They made what could have been very difficult feel very natural and easy.

For almost four years this wonderful care home has cared for my grandmother. The way they have cared, loved and given her the best care shows just what a wonderful care home they are. I don’t think anyone could have asked for anything better. I know it was a difficult choice to send my Nan into a nursing
home for my mum and her siblings, but it was very evident within days of her entering the home and becoming a resident that she was given the greatest care.
The staff offered reassurance and support for my mum as she watched others care for my Nan. Which was so thoughtful and needed.
I am eternally grateful for the service they provided. Every day they showed just how high standard they offer and that each resident is a valued person. I wish I could personally speak to each and everyone who has cared for my Nan. You are angels that deserve the greatest praise for all that you do.

My mother lived with me and my family in our home for 17 years, and after her diagnosis six and a half years ago I was her only carer. Making the decision to put my mum's care, health, welfare and happiness into the hands of people I didn't know was heartbreaking and terrifying. Decision made, I then
had to plan how to go about this transition causing the least stress possible to my mum, knowing she would never choose to leave my family. I discussed my plan with the manager at Bernash and she and all the staff supported my story. Everyone at this care home I feel have gone above and beyond to welcome and settle my mum. They took the time to read all the information I provided on caring for my mum. They have listened to what I had to say, they are warm, loving and caring people. The manager even took the time to care about how I was managing. I thank them all with all my heart and wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to care for your loved one.

I cannot thank the staff at Bernash enough for the way they have looked after my mum. She was admitted to the home in October 2019. It was a gut-wrenching decision to place her in a home but after meeting the staff and being shown around my mind was put at ease. Mum is so happy there. Whenever I have
visited she has always been smiling. The staff always put the residents first and do all they can to keep them safe at this difficult time. I could not wish for a better place for her to spend her remaining time with us and cannot thank the staff enough for the love and care they give to all the residents.

I can honestly say that I am in awe of the staff at Bernash, especially during these difficult times. My mum suffered a fall but her recovery has been quicker than expected and I put this down to the hard work of the staff. They have kept me updated on her progress and given me peace of mind knowing
that she is in very good hands.

My brother suffers from dementia and it was extremely difficult to look after him.
We were at odds with what to do until a close friend recommended Burnash. We were complacent at first, we didn't want to put my brother into a home, but we thought it best to due to the level of care we were unable to
provide. We went for a tour of the home and we were most impressed. Such a lovely place, everyone seemed so happy. Really felt like home! I wouldn't have like to have stayed there myself if the wife had not been with me! We met the Director and he was such a genuinely caring man which you do not tend to see nowadays. Usually, they are only interested in the money. He was interacting with patients and really knew his trade.
Since revisiting my brother, he is so happy. He has such a high level of care and it is such a relief and burden lifted knowing he is in such good hands. Thank you to all at Burnash.

My friend has been at Bernash for over 2 years and with the current corona pandemic, I am so pleased that she is being kept safe by all the staff. They have been amazing during this difficult time and although they locked the home down early (which I was very happy they did), the staff have still provided
activities throughout the day and updated us on Facebook. We have also been able to keep in contact on video calls. Thank you to everyone at Bernash.

My aunty lived here for ten years and loved every minute of it. She was cared for by wonderful people who treated her with care, respect and love. They are the most amazing people who give so much to their residents and are so patient with them. My aunty died recently and their kindness and thoughtfulness
was second to none. A beautiful home and clean and spotless. Would recommend this place to anyone.

I would just like to say on behalf of all of the family thank you, thank you, thank you, for your dedication and love in looking after mum and all of those residents in Bernash.
We hear on the News about the Care homes that are at risk of Covid 19 and many who have the virus within their walls, we
appreciate so much the love and effort you put into caring for mum and others. My daughter works in the same profession and I am so proud of her and all of you, this Thursday my hands will be clapping for you and all the carers that help us, you are angels here on earth.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.813)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.813) out of 10 for Bernash Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.913 for Bernash Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.913

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bernash Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
