Penhill is a multi-award-winning residential care home with an outstanding reputation based in the suburbs of Bristol, close to local amenities and excellent transport links.

Specialising in long-term care for up to 19 residents, the independent family-run home offers an authentic home-from-home experience through its spacious and welcoming environment.

Staff are recruited locally, fully trained and provide the highest quality care, 24 hours a day. With a warm and personable approach, they endeavour to treat residents with love, respect and kindness.

Care is focused on the needs of the individual. Upholding dignity, independence and a sense of community is essential, so weekly forum meetings are held with residents to discuss the service.

Penhill is decorated to high standards throughout to help maintain a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere and has wheelchair access to all facilities. Residents benefit from en suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, telephones and televisions in their fully furnished bedrooms, and have several communal spaces to unwind in around the grounds.

A large, cosy lounge sits at the heart of the home which includes an open log fire.

The dining room has an open kitchen where high quality, nutritious meals and freshly baked cakes are prepared.

The conservatory is a favourite spot for many to enjoy the beautifully presented gardens. The lawns and terrace are well maintained and easily accessible for all.

There are plenty of stimulating activities to get involved with and a lively entertainment programme to look forward to.

Penhill makes the transition from independent living to residential care seamless whilst maintaining independence. Staff treat residents like family, which extends to the individualised service they provide. Through dedication and a clear ethos, Penhill has achieved an excellent reputation over the last 20 years.

My Aunt has been a residence of Penhill Residential Home since 2025 and it has been a lovely experience so far. Good management, caring and amazing staffs, beautiful environment. It's a safe place to be and home away from home.

My Aunt has been a resident of Penhill for about 7 years. During this time her care has been excellent. The staff are always caring and compassionate and the home is spotlessly clean and welcoming. I live over 100 miles away so cannot visit as often as I would like but it is reassuring to know
that my Aunt could not receive better care.
Reply from Nathan Corfield, Manager at PenhillThank you very much for taking the time to leave such a kind and thoughtful review. We are truly grateful for your lovely words and for the trust you have placed in Penhill over the past seven years.
Your comments about the compassion of our staff and the clean, welcoming environment are very much appreciated and will be shared with the whole team. We understand how difficult it can be when family members live some distance away, so I am especially pleased to know that we have been able to offer you reassurance and peace of mind.
Thank you again for your kind feedback - it really does mean a great deal to us all here at Penhill.

My friend has been a resident for a few years. I visit as often as I can. My friend is very happy living at the home. The staff are so friendly, professional and caring the resident all seem to be able to relate with staff and management.
The home is very welcoming, clean and cosy warm.
When I visit
I usually stay and have lunch with my friend in the dining room. The menu is always varied and quite delicious. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home for a friend or family member.

My mother-in-law was struggling at home after spending time in hospital after a fall. We knew that she couldn't return without support and was looking at getting in care, but a friend of mine recommended Penhill to me and said that it was like a home from home. Mum went in for a period of respite and
decided that she wanted to stay, she said the food was amazing, the residents and staff are like an extended family and mum with support has her independence back and I haven't seen her this happy in years. The management and staff cannot do enough and we look forward to going in to visit mum and meeting her new friends. I cannot recommend Penhill enough.

I visit this care home on a two weekly basis to see my mum's friend who has been in this care home for several years now.
The home is always clean, warm and welcoming and the staff are ever so friendly and professional.
I tend to stay for lunch in the dinning room area with the residents and staff.
The food is always varied and no two days have ever been the same. It's an open kitchen so you can see the cooks in action which is good to see.
The home is well kept and my friend is very happy here. She has a circle of friends in the unit of which they like to play cards and board games.
The home is very close to local shops and there is a bus stop and train station within a few minutes walk.
Plenty of on street parking in a quiet area of Bristol but close enough to the motorways which I like, as I come in from Wales.
Well done to all the staff and home manager.

My mother spent the last 4 year sof her life at Penhill. I live in NZ and would come over every year and more or less move in for a month. I observed nothing but compassion, kindness and love from all staff at Penhill to all the residents. Mum was very happy, she really enjoyed all the daily activities
at Penhill, and Penhill can sure deliver a party or celebration!
It has been so reassuring that mum was so happy here for the last few years of her life and was embraced by the Penhill family...it is more than a home- it is community and loving embrace.

I found Penhill always, welcoming with activities, books, garden and always a willing ear from the staff if any concerns were raised. My cousin was very happy here and when she had to leave to go to a nursing home for mobility issues I realised how good Penhill really had been. Because it's quite small
each resident gets attention and according to my cousin, the food was excellent.

I needed to move my 92 year old mother a long way from her home to be nearer me and was very worried I wouldn't find anywhere suitable. However I found Penhill and knew almost immediately on viewing that it would be perfect. It is a family run home and all staff are fabulous. There are two chefs who
will cook absolutely anything, my mum didn't eat meat, and the food was always varied and fresh.
There are daily activities and the staff go the extra mile to engage with all residents. There is also the sound of laughter from the staff which I feel shows a happy and supportive team.
The care Mum received at the end of her life was above and beyond with one member of staff regularly coming in on her days off to be with us and my Mum.
The family are always welcomed and I enjoyed chatting to all of them whilst having a cup of tea.
I would not hesitate to recommend Penhill to anyone looking for care for an older person or for themselves. It is a happy, safe, supported residential home.

We were recommended Penhill from a local GP friend, who said she would want to come here if she were ever in need of care. It is a small, caring and clean residential home, with kind staff who always offer me a cup of tea on arrival, to have with my friend. They have looked after my friend incredibly
well and despite her needs increasing over the past two years, have gone the extra mile to accommodate her needs and make her feel like a real priority to them. Penhill has such a wonderful family feel to it, we knew almost immediately it was the right move for her, which was a huge relief, having moved someone who had lived in her own home until she was over 90. I feel totally confident they will look after her with the care and respect she deserves.

Penhill is an excellent care home. My mum goes there for respite care and is very comfortable there. The staff are absolutely amazing and take great care of the residents and those visiting.
The facilities are great and there are many daytime activities to get involved with as well as a hairdresser
and chiropodist.
The home is not like others I visited where it feels more like a hotel than a home. Rooms are very homely and residents are encouraged to bring along items to make them feel relaxed.
I couldn't recommend Penhill enough although I would prefer they had a room available for Mum when she next goes to stay.

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.929 for Penhill is calculated as follows: ( (251 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 269 Ratings = 4.929
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Penhill is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
