Small and personal residence that truly feels like a home from home with residents and staff one big happy, loving family.
I looked at 15 placements in my search for the perfect home for my lovely mum and when I visited Penhill I knew I'd found the right place. Every member of the team was friendly, welcoming and so genuinely kind and caring. The property itself is small enough to feel like an actual home. Cosy, comfy and well maintained with a lovely lounge, conservatory, dining area, gardens and bedrooms can be personalised as much as you want. The residents are encouraged to keep their independence but offered assistance, their choices are respected and they're treated with dignity.
Meals are freshly cooked and look delicious, tea trolley rounds with a choice of drinks and biscuits are regularly offered and the residents often joke that they're constantly eating.

As a family member, I have always been made really welcome whatever time I turn up to visit and can stay as long as I wish. Mum's happy and content.

I saw the staff support a service user to walk to the dining room. This service user is not usually able to mobilise. On this occasion, she walked a couple of steps, the staff supported her to walk all of the way by encouraging her. One staff member followed closely with the wheelchair that they were going to use to transfer her. It would have been very easy and less time-consuming to pop her on the wheelchair. The way they supported her was a great example of person-centred support and lovely to see.

I visited my aunt at Penhill a few days ago during their Jubilee celebrations. Everyone was having an amazing time. My aunt absolutely loves it there - I could never have imagined she would be so content after she had to leave her own home. The manager and staff are all amazing - nothing is too much trouble. A proper home-from-home experience... I would recommend it to anyone.

My dad has been in Penhill for just over a year. It was a difficult adjustment for him, leaving the family home of 58 years. He has settled in well thanks to the caring staff and manager. I have always been welcomed on my visits and kept informed of any health issues with dad. The food is cooked on-site, which always smells so nice when I am there. I would have no hesitation in recommending Penhill to anyone.

My dad has been in Penhill for about 6 weeks now and the care he has received during this time has been amazing. Nothing is ever too much trouble for all the lovely staff. My dad is putting on weight (which was needed) with all the lovely homecooked food. Penhill has a lovely feeling of family and warmth when you visit. My dad has settled in so well and it's a pleasure to visit knowing he is happy and enjoying the company of both the residents and the carers.

My Mother went to Penhill for two weeks respite, the standard of care and friendliness of the staff was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble and I was always made to feel welcome when I visited. The standard of the food and my mother's room was excellent. If Mum needs to be somewhere permanently I would go straight back to Penhill.

I have lived in the area all my life, so when my late father needed a residential home, I had no hesitation in choosing Penhill. As I had heard such good things about it, I was not disappointed, as they were marvellous to him. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and all were so welcoming. I would be the first to recommend Penhill to anyone looking for a good and caring care home.

My grandmother moved to Penhill early this year, it was an extremely anxious time for us as a family trying to look after an elderly relative in the midst of Covid. We were put at ease by the kindness and compassion of the manager, she was always happy to reassure us. We were concerned about grandma’s welfare at home, well we couldn’t have made a better choice, grandma is thriving, she has a whole new social life, a circle of friends, she tells us she is extremely well cared for, she loves the food. Activities are fun and quiz life has tested her somewhat. She loves to knit and natter and is making squares for charity. Her love of flowers is embraced in the beautifully kept grounds, she is looking forward to apples from the fruit tree. All her worries are gone, we see her smiling again. The visiting pod is safe and well looked after and we have loved closer contact visits recently too. Grandma says her room is lovely and her pictures hang on the wall and make it feel like home.

As a family, our experience of placing a member of our family into residential care has been extremely good in what could have been very difficult circumstances. From day one he has been made to feel at home and all of his requests have been met with positive responses. Having realised I could not stay in my own home on my own, I moved into Penhill for a months trial, which has been very successful, and I have decided to make it my forever home. My first contact with Penhill was when the manager came out to meet mum and me prior to a week's respite care for mum. I instantly felt that this caring and capable woman knew what she was talking about and wasn't trying to "sell" the home. She really put my mind at rest and I felt very much at ease going away for my own break. Penhill is the most amazing place. My mum went in for respite care of one week, originally. When I went to collect her she was in tears at leaving because she had enjoyed it so much. One week later, mum moved into Penhill permanently. The staff were amazing, without exception, and I was never made to feel a nuisance when I called or visited. Mum was welcomed with open arms and loved the care and attention she received. Mum was in Penhill for 16 months until she passed away. She received the very best care at all times and I absolutely recommend Penhill as the gold standard in residential care.

Reply from Kath O'Dwyer, Manager at Penhill

It was a pleasure from the 1st time of meeting your beautiful mum to have her in our care, and you as part of the extended Penhill family. She made us smile with her wit and dry sense of humour, her heart filled with kindness and compassion and wisdom that we all loved. She will remain forever in our hearts, as will you all. God bless.

My Great Aunt moved to Penhill in 2015 at the age of 98. It is not just a care home, it is a family. Every resident has their needs met individually and are looked after with so much care and love.
Recently my Great Aunt ended up needing to go to the hospital. Although they informed us she would not be able to return home, the leadership staff at Penhill went above and beyond what they needed to do to ensure she returned to home for her final days.
Since returning with an end of life care plan the staff are doing things above and beyond their normal day to day routine. My Great Aunt, now 103, is happy and receiving the best treatment of love, laughter and the familiar faces of the staff.
During these past few months of lockdown, Penhill has kept all families updated on their situation and to date have been Covid free for the whole 6 months. An absolute credit to the staff.

If you are looking for a care home I highly recommend Penhill. Thank you to all the staff there for their hard work.

Mum died peacefully at Penhill, the place she called home, in July 2020. She moved there in June 2018, initially for a period of rehabilitation but, after a short time, made the decision to make it her permanent home. During the two years she lived there she was treated with love, compassion, respect, friendship, care, humour, warmth and encouragement by all at Penhill. I cannot thank them enough for all they gave to her and the love, care and support they have shown to us, her family, especially during her last weeks. What a blessing that we found Penhill.

Until the age of 95, my mother-in-law had been living independently. During the last year, the family started to notice changes in her mood and she was losing weight. She had also begun showing signs of being nervous about being alone. Although we tried to help her the best we could, we realised the time had come when she needed full-time care and support. She has now been in Penhill for the past 10 months, and we can't praise the manager and staff enough for their care and kindness. She has started to put on weight due to the good food and is happier now than she has been for a long time. As a family, we would highly recommend Penhill as a home from home.

Tonight Penhill hosted an early Guy Fawkes night for residents, family, friends and staff. The evening included amazing food, drink and a wonderful bonfire and firework display accompanied by suitable atmospheric music. Absolutely brilliant and the level of sophistication was totally unexpected in that the professionalism seemed to me on a level with a New Year celebration conducted in London along the River Thames.

Penhill shows such love, care and attention to their residents and it was so wonderful to share this evening with not only my Mother-in-Law and other residents, but with the families and staff of Penhill.

Thank you.
