Penhill is a multi-award-winning residential care home with an outstanding reputation based in the suburbs of Bristol, close to local amenities and excellent transport links.

Specialising in long-term care for up to 19 residents, the independent family-run home offers an authentic home-from-home experience through its spacious and welcoming environment.

Staff are recruited locally, fully trained and provide the highest quality care, 24 hours a day. With a warm and personable approach, they endeavour to treat residents with love, respect and kindness.

Care is focused on the needs of the individual. Upholding dignity, independence and a sense of community is essential, so weekly forum meetings are held with residents to discuss the service.

Penhill is decorated to high standards throughout to help maintain a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere and has wheelchair access to all facilities. Residents benefit from en suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, telephones and televisions in their fully furnished bedrooms, and have several communal spaces to unwind in around the grounds.

A large, cosy lounge sits at the heart of the home which includes an open log fire.

The dining room has an open kitchen where high quality, nutritious meals and freshly baked cakes are prepared.

The conservatory is a favourite spot for many to enjoy the beautifully presented gardens. The lawns and terrace are well maintained and easily accessible for all.

There are plenty of stimulating activities to get involved with and a lively entertainment programme to look forward to.

Penhill makes the transition from independent living to residential care seamless whilst maintaining independence. Staff treat residents like family, which extends to the individualised service they provide. Through dedication and a clear ethos, Penhill has achieved an excellent reputation over the last 20 years.

I visited my aunt at Penhill a few days ago during their Jubilee celebrations. Everyone was having an amazing time. My aunt absolutely loves it there - I could never have imagined she would be so content after she had to leave her own home. The manager and staff are all amazing - nothing is too much
trouble. A proper home-from-home experience... I would recommend it to anyone.

My dad has been in Penhill for just over a year. It was a difficult adjustment for him, leaving the family home of 58 years. He has settled in well thanks to the caring staff and manager. I have always been welcomed on my visits and kept informed of any health issues with dad. The food is cooked on-site,
which always smells so nice when I am there. I would have no hesitation in recommending Penhill to anyone.
Reply from Nathan Corfield, Manager at PenhillThank you so much for the lovely review Carol, it is a pleasure having dad at Penhill, he brings a smile to our faces on a daily basis. Thank you for entrusting us with his care and playing an integral part in the care that dad receives. You're more than welcome to join Dad for a nice home-cooked meal, anytime.

My dad has been in Penhill for about 6 weeks now and the care he has received during this time has been amazing. Nothing is ever too much trouble for all the lovely staff. My dad is putting on weight (which was needed) with all the lovely homecooked food. Penhill has a lovely feeling of family and warmth
when you visit. My dad has settled in so well and it's a pleasure to visit knowing he is happy and enjoying the company of both the residents and the carers.
Reply from Nathan Corfield, Manager at PenhillThank you so much for the lovely review, it is a pleasure having Dad at Penhill, he's a joy to have with us and brings a smile to all our faces on a daily basis. I'm pleased that dad has settled in so well and it has given you peace of mind that he is well cared for. Dad even knows all the staff individually by their name, and has made friends with two other gentlemen and together they put the world to rights each lunchtime over a glass of red!

My Mother went to Penhill for two weeks respite, the standard of care and friendliness of the staff was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble and I was always made to feel welcome when I visited. The standard of the food and my mother's room was excellent. If Mum needs to be somewhere permanently
I would go straight back to Penhill.
Reply from Nathan Corfield, Manager at PenhillMany thanks, Lin for taking the time to publish a review. It was a pleasure to welcome your mum to Penhill. I have lived in the area all my life, so when my late father needed a residential home, I had no hesitation in choosing Penhill. As I had heard such good things about it, I was not disappointed, as they were marvellous to him. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and all were so welcoming. I would
be the first to recommend Penhill to anyone looking for a good and caring care home.

My grandmother moved to Penhill early this year, it was an extremely anxious time for us as a family trying to look after an elderly relative in the midst of Covid. We were put at ease by the kindness and compassion of the manager, she was always happy to reassure us. We were concerned about grandma’s
welfare at home, well we couldn’t have made a better choice, grandma is thriving, she has a whole new social life, a circle of friends, she tells us she is extremely well cared for, she loves the food. Activities are fun and quiz life has tested her somewhat. She loves to knit and natter and is making squares for charity. Her love of flowers is embraced in the beautifully kept grounds, she is looking forward to apples from the fruit tree. All her worries are gone, we see her smiling again. The visiting pod is safe and well looked after and we have loved closer contact visits recently too. Grandma says her room is lovely and her pictures hang on the wall and make it feel like home.
Reply from Kath O'Dwyer, Manager at PenhillThe most beautiful review in such difficult times. We understand the impact of Covid and the effect this has had on families, Residents and staff at Penhill, but are really so very pleased to welcome our new residents to our loving home. We are looking forward to brighter times and welcoming families into our family and sharing all the fabulous things your lovely grandma enjoys about Penhill. We look forward to getting to know you all better and enjoying sharing special times with your family. Kindest regards

As a family, our experience of placing a member of our family into residential care has been extremely good in what could have been very difficult circumstances. From day one he has been made to feel at home and all of his requests have been met with positive responses. Our experience when dealing with
all of the staff has been good, they are always polite and most importantly of all cheerful.
Reply from Kath O'Dwyer, Manager at PenhillIt is nothing short of a pleasure having your family member at Penhill as part of the Penhill family. We absolutely embrace the fabulous sense of humour that comes with caring for your loved one and how much we enjoy the amazing relationship that you have as a family and a support network. We are so glad that we have your trust and that Penhill is considered Home, we are glad it is. Thank You for your lovely and honest review.

Having realised I could not stay in my own home on my own, I moved into Penhill for a months trial, which has been very successful, and I have decided to make it my forever home. The staff are very nice, helpful and kind. My room is very good as I am on the ground floor. Penhill also has beautiful gardens.
I would recommend this care home.

My first contact with Penhill was when the manager came out to meet mum and me prior to a week's respite care for mum. I instantly felt that this caring and capable woman knew what she was talking about and wasn't trying to "sell" the home. She really put my mind at rest and I felt very much at ease
going away for my own break. Penhill is the most amazing place. My mum went in for respite care of one week, originally. When I went to collect her she was in tears at leaving because she had enjoyed it so much. One week later, mum moved into Penhill permanently. The staff were amazing, without exception, and I was never made to feel a nuisance when I called or visited. Mum was welcomed with open arms and loved the care and attention she received. Mum was in Penhill for 16 months until she passed away. She received the very best care at all times and I absolutely recommend Penhill as the gold standard in residential care.
Reply from Kath O'Dwyer, Manager at PenhillIt was a pleasure from the 1st time of meeting your beautiful mum to have her in our care, and you as part of the extended Penhill family. She made us smile with her wit and dry sense of humour, her heart filled with kindness and compassion and wisdom that we all loved. She will remain forever in our hearts, as will you all. God bless.

My Great Aunt moved to Penhill in 2015 at the age of 98. It is not just a care home, it is a family. Every resident has their needs met individually and are looked after with so much care and love.
Recently my Great Aunt ended up needing to go to the hospital. Although they informed us she would not
be able to return home, the leadership staff at Penhill went above and beyond what they needed to do to ensure she returned to home for her final days.
Since returning with an end of life care plan the staff are doing things above and beyond their normal day to day routine. My Great Aunt, now 103, is happy and receiving the best treatment of love, laughter and the familiar faces of the staff.
During these past few months of lockdown, Penhill has kept all families updated on their situation and to date have been Covid free for the whole 6 months. An absolute credit to the staff.
If you are looking for a care home I highly recommend Penhill. Thank you to all the staff there for their hard work.
Reply from Kath O'Dwyer, Manager at PenhillHey Liz, it is only ever a pleasure to care for your beautiful aunt who continues to astound us on a daily basis, a lifetime of stories, a smile on her face and always words of wisdom. She is very much loved and being able to bring her home for the last journey of her life is as much as our pleasure as it is her wishes. We are truly humbled to be able to spend time with the great lady that she is and over 100 years of stories. You are all very loved by your aunt, and we will continue to do our absolute best to keep that smile on her face. Thank you for your kind and humbling words. It means so very much to us all. Kindest regards.

Mum died peacefully at Penhill, the place she called home, in July 2020. She moved there in June 2018, initially for a period of rehabilitation but, after a short time, made the decision to make it her permanent home. During the two years she lived there she was treated with love, compassion, respect,
friendship, care, humour, warmth and encouragement by all at Penhill. I cannot thank them enough for all they gave to her and the love, care and support they have shown to us, her family, especially during her last weeks. What a blessing that we found Penhill.

Until the age of 95, my mother-in-law had been living independently. During the last year, the family started to notice changes in her mood and she was losing weight. She had also begun showing signs of being nervous about being alone. Although we tried to help her the best we could, we realised the
time had come when she needed full-time care and support. She has now been in Penhill for the past 10 months, and we can't praise the manager and staff enough for their care and kindness. She has started to put on weight due to the good food and is happier now than she has been for a long time. As a family, we would highly recommend Penhill as a home from home.

Tonight Penhill hosted an early Guy Fawkes night for residents, family, friends and staff. The evening included amazing food, drink and a wonderful bonfire and firework display accompanied by suitable atmospheric music. Absolutely brilliant and the level of sophistication was totally unexpected in that
the professionalism seemed to me on a level with a New Year celebration conducted in London along the River Thames.

Penhill shows such love, care and attention to their residents and it was so wonderful to share this evening with not only my Mother-in-Law and other residents, but with the families and staff of Penhill.

Thank you.

The home is like a cross between a warm friendly family home and a good small hotel. The staff are extremely attentive to residents and extremely welcoming to visitors. There is a very pleasant atmosphere in the home and the rooms, both public and bedrooms, are very clean, bright and welcoming. A very
good range of homemade freshly prepared foods geared to residents individual preferences are offered. My dad has been a resident for the last 6 months and is very happy. I cannot recommend the home too highly.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

With over 30 years of dedicated service in health and social care, I bring extensive experience, strong leadership, and an unwavering passion for delivering high-quality, person-centred care. As a long-standing Registered Manager, I have consistently led teams to excellence, ensuring compliance, compassion, and innovation are at the heart of every service I oversee.

Confident, independent, and highly motivated, I thrive in challenging environments and am known for my energetic and proactive approach. I continually stay up to date with changes in legislation, standards, and best practices through regular training, staff conferences, and collaboration with organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society, AgeCymru, and the NHS.

In previous years, I was a Dementia Champion, and to this day, I remain a passionate advocate for best practice in dementia care, regularly facilitating training for staff, families, and community partners—including financial institutions—to raise awareness and improve outcomes. I also lead training in Fire Awareness, Infection Control, and the Mental Capacity Act, championing safety, compliance, and professional development.

Throughout my career, I’ve managed large, complex services—including dementia care homes and nursing facilities—delivering sustainable improvements in quality, compliance, and resident satisfaction. My leadership has been recognised at national forums, including the Care Council for Wales, and featured in published sector magazines.

I am proud of my ability to motivate teams, lead change, and ensure residents and their families are at the centre of all decision-making. Above all, I am committed to creating safe, supportive environments where dignity, respect, and choice are paramount.
