With what is undoubtedly one of the most unique, internal care home gardens in Cornwall, Blackwood has a hidden gem for its residents and their loved ones to enjoy!

The home has been designed in a square shape, with a stunning large, enclosed garden, filled with flowers, plants and a fruit tree. With raised beds for residents in wheelchairs, it is a hub of activity. With the support of the team, the residents grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs, harvesting them for the chef to use in the kitchen. There is also a summer house and plenty of sheltered seating.

The home has two floors, each with its own cosy lounge, overlooking the garden, a dining area and kitchenette. The residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals prepared by the home’s chef, as well as home baking for afternoon tea. The team also offers respite care breaks, which are ideal for family carers who would like to take a short break themselves.

The team is passionate about enriching the lives of residents with activities which bring them joy, as well as keeping those vital community connections alive. From live music and gardening, to trips to the local memory café and other popular community events. The home also has a wonderful partnership with a local friendship group, who love to play carpet bowls with the residents.

Blackwood has its own darts team and a mobile bar called The Blackwood Arms. There are weekly visits from a hairdresser, keep fit classes and singing sessions.

The team throws open the doors for Easter and Summer fetes in the garden, and residents enjoy trips out in the local community, from local fayres to shopping.

The team, many of whom have been with Blackwood for many years, provides residential and dementia care. They embrace the loved ones into day-to-day life in the home, giving Blackwood a warm, family feel, something which is echoed in the home’s fantastic reviews.

Blackwood is more than a care home it is a family home. The warm, happy environment is always welcoming and the staff maintain a superb level of attention and care. Finally, I was amazed with the Christmas decorations and full entertainment program, the manager certainly goes above and beyond, and the
residents are certainly getting in the festive mood, so lovely to see, with trips out as well as in-house entertainment.

Mum has been at Blackwood House for 8 months now, it took a bit of time to settle but now she has she is very happy. The entertainment manager seems to have endless amounts of energy and enthusiasm and is a real asset. Visitors are made very welcome. The home has regular residents and family meetings
which can only be a good thing.

The entertainment is outstanding, there's always something going on - it's nice to see the staff joining in. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, everyone is made welcome when visiting. The rooms are clean, it's a happy home.

Overall experience has been good since Mum was brought to Blackwood. She has only been here a week and things still need tweaking. But the whole family are impressed with everything so far. My mum is starting to settle in which helps with the care they are giving her.
I have found the staff very friendly
and can't seem to do enough for you and the resident. It is a very homely atmosphere which also helps. Very pleased so far.

I am very satisfied with the care Mum receives. Staff are friendly and kind towards myself and the residents.
Activities are always planned and a lot of effort goes into entertaining the residents by the activities leader.

I take a church themed service there twice a month at the request of the residents. As a visitor I am treated with the utmost respect. The residents are always clean and well attended to. They are happy to join in with the singing and share memories of the days they went to Sunday school or church.
Afterwards tea and cake is served with each residents preference being known and catered for. Everyone enjoys the afternoon. It is a well cared environment and I would be happy to recommend.

Aunty has settled in well at Blackwood House. She has told us the staff are very good and kind. When I visited, the staff are kind and attentive. They are all very keen to do the best they can for her. She is always clean and well-dressed when I see her.

My Mum has been here for 3+ years and is very comfortable. She has recently celebrated a significant birthday so I wanted to provide a review and give feedback. The thing that makes Blackwood Residential Care Home outstanding for me is its people. It has been said before, the staff are brilliant. They
really do care, and go above and beyond to get to know their residents, interact with them, and care for them. They organise fantastic programmes of activities that are really varied! In recent months my Mum has enjoyed a visit offsite for Camborne's Trevithick day, attended an indoor summer garden party, went to a Royal Ascot inspired event outdoors in the garden, and most recently her birthday was celebrated outdoors in their lovely new summerhouse. My family and I were so grateful for additional thought and care in creating a party for her, the staff were absolutely amazing, and really did exceed our expectations! My Mum loved it and we are happy she is being cared for in this excellent care home.

Dad is much happier in his new environment. Being able to spend time outside in the beautifully landscaped gardens has been such a benefit to his well-being and also makes visiting a pleasure. He was already in the lobby sitting with some of the other residents for an afternoon of singing. We were each given floral garlands to wear around our necks. Given cocktails and ice cream. There was a live singer, and we joined in singing 60s songs etc. The residents and visitors were full of smiles.
The area was decorated brightly with bunting - everything was clean.

My father has only been a resident at Blackwood House for a week however he has had the best week he’s ever had. We moved my father from a different care home where they did not meet his needs. Blackwood is outstanding. They care 100% for their clients and provide a fun, stimulating environment where
my dad feels like he’s in a home from home. The staff are brilliant. Within a few days of dad arriving they ensured that they had lots of information about dad so they could create a personalised care plan which is reviewed within 4 weeks. We never had anything like this before.
My dad has been happy the minute he arrived. So pleased we moved him. Dad is starting to live again.
The house is incredibly clean, staff are amazing and the space is wonderful. There’s so many spaces for my dad to go to. He especially loves the garden. It’s just wonderful.
The activities coordinator has worked above and beyond creating the coronation party weekend and dad loved every minute.

My mum came to the home in March 2017 on recommendation of a then, carer. Over the years very few problems, but like anywhere things do go off track. Now the last three years she is treated with the utmost respect and I am always informed of any incident she might have, illness, odd bruise she incurs,
as bruises so easily, always did! Staff, everyone in fact employed there is so friendly and helpful.

Blackwood House is a vibrant, happy home. The staff are caring, professional and are always willing to help. My father has been cared for there for almost a year and always with the utmost dignity, nothing is too much trouble. The staff and management are always on hand to catch up or answer any questions
and everyone is always so pleasant and helpful. For those who wish to participate the stimulation provided from a varied programme of activities is amazing and the outdoor space and gardens are beautiful. The staff go above and beyond to ensure the residence are well cared for both physically and emotionally and I am very happy that my dad is living there. Thank you.

I cannot recommend Blackwood House high enough. The staff are fantastic and looked after my mum up until she passed away. They couldn't be more helpful and supportive and my mum passed with dignity, we were also supported amazingly and they still keep in touch.

My father has resided here for three months, and the care he has been given is exemplary. He has also been transformed into a very sociable person, quite the opposite of the last twenty years, due to the activities offered and the encouragement given by the staff. He is truly very happy.

Mum has been treated like family. All the carers and staff are wonderful. We can relax in the knowledge she is eating well, taking her medication on time and is warm and well looked after. My only small issue is because of her needs and equipment her room si a bit small and her wardrobe is filled with
medical stuff instead of her own possessions.
