With just 36 bedrooms and a team which is passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, Chyvarhas has a warm, family feel the moment you walk through the door.

Providing residential, nursing, dementia care and palliative care, the team also offers respite care breaks, which are ideal for family carers who would like to take a short break themselves, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

In keeping with the name of the home, meaning ‘meeting point’ in Cornish, the team is passionate about embracing the local community into life at Chyvarhas, from regular singers, musicians and performers, to local school children, who enjoy activities with the residents.

Every month, carers from the local community are invited to the home’s dementia support group, which takes places on the third Friday of every month, from 10am to noon.

There are also regular exercise sessions with Love to Move, and animal therapy visits, with everything from rabbits to owls!

The home is thriving, with so many activities to enjoy, from impromptu singalongs to baking and pamper sessions. A mobile hairdresser also visits for regular appointments with the residents.

Chyvarhas is unique in its layout, with four wings – with three cosy lounges, two of which lead to their own private secure garden. In the summer the residents love spending time gardening, or relaxing with loved ones, who are welcome at any time.

There is a spacious central dining room, where residents socialise with delicious, home cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, and home baking for afternoon tea.

Chyvarhas also has its own private Facebook group, so families can see what their loved ones have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there each day in person.

Situated on the main bus route, the home has excellent transport links and a large, secure car park.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

My mother had 3 weeks of respite care during which time she experienced excellent care from all the staff who attended to her needs. She had regular, good meals cooked on site, a real change from her usual microwave portions. Her room was clean & tidy, and she was treated with the utmost dignity in

My nan stayed with Chyvarhas for respite while we were renovating her bedroom. The room was presented beautifully and we had lots of options to personalise it while she was there. She said the best part of the room was the view from the window. She has been unable to go out to her garden for the last
few years and loved all the wildlife and plants she could see from her window. She was given the option to be taken out into the community, even though she did decline because of the weather. The staff were incredibly attentive and took great care of her and she appreciated staff taking the time to sit down and have a proper chat with her. She also said that they fed her very well and she had meals she hasn't been able to have in years.
When we took her home, we asked her what she thought. She said that "it was like a home away from home."

My experience of the home was good. I loved the attention to detail in the care and the food choices provided. I valued the big room and the view of the garden that was very important to me. The staff were generally very positive, up beat and friendly. I would stay again happily.

This was the second time we have used Chyvarhas for respite care. The room is modern and spotlessly clean with all facilities in good working order and a lovely view of the garden. It only lost one mark due to not being ensuite which would have been preferable but understandable given the layout. A
commode was provided to mitigate this. The staff were all polite and courteous. They greeted our family member with genuine respect and warmth which was reassuring. The food smelt lovely and was apparently very nice.

A very caring home with total honesty and non-judgemental kindness to all the people. There is much joy and patience to all the people in this home regardless of their individual disabilities. It has a lovely atmosphere which is palpable as soon as you enter. This is a home that cares.

I cannot thank and praise all members of the Chyvarus Residential and Nursing Home team enough. My father is on end of life care and the genuine care and attention given to him by EVERY member of staff here has been phenomenal. Not only do they care for him but for us as well. Time and care with dignity
and respect from each one of the nurses and care team. A truly wonderful group of people who have always looked after my father with kindness and personal consideration.
Management of the care home by staff in the home is great, I cannot comment on the company, but hope they truly appreciate how hard their staff work to give such personal, welcoming and caring support to residents and their families - what very long hours they put in always with full energy and encouragement for the residents and their visitors.

My wife was in the care home for about 2 months. The care she received was second to none. All the staff were there for her 24 hours a day. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff did their best to make my wife comfortable. There was never a day that she complained. The only real compliment I can give
this home is if I had to go into a care home, this is the one I would go into.

In the short time, my husband has been in Chyvarhas, I cannot speak highly enough about the care he is receiving. The home is spotlessly clean. The clients are kept spotless, and the food is just amazing. The carers and nurses are totally dedicated to their work. We are always kept informed of everything
to do with his care. From the management down, I cannot speak highly enough. After having bad experiences with care homes in the past with close friends and my own mother, Chyvarhas has restored my faith that there are still excellent homes if you are lucky and find one like this.

Chyvarhas has provided a safe and secure environment - every time I visit the atmosphere is always happy and welcoming. The food is excellent, activities are varied, and the staff are wonderful - so patient and willing to listen. A nice element of the home is that there are no ghastly smells as so often

The home has had an update with the entrance and furnishings being updated or replaced since Christmas.

Great communication from managers and carers so far. Mum has only been in a few weeks, but person-centred care, attention and care planning very evident.
Communal areas are spacious and comfortable with various styles of chairs. Food is available all the time and the atmosphere is clearly geared for
every resident's needs and time preferences.
Always get a welcome greeting from the reception staff.

The staff were very helpful and reassuring on our initial visit and answered all of our many questions regarding care for our family member in respite. The room was very clean and welcoming. My husband appears to have been very happy with his care here. This was his first experience of respite care
and both he and I were apprehensive but it appears to have gone well. Thank you to all the staff for taking such good care of my husband.

My husband has only been in your home for just over a month but I have been very pleased with his excellent care. I can go home and feel that he is being well looked after and can relax and not worry about him. Also being very near to the home I know I can visit at any time and it is only 5 minutes
