Chyvarhas Residential and Nursing Home

My husband is happy and looked after very well here. He has a lovely, airy room and the staff are very helpful and kind to him.

My dad has just had two weeks respite care after a hip replacement. He had a very happy time in Chyvarhas Care Home and found the staff very caring towards him. I found the manager very thorough and caring too about my dad's prospective needs before he had his stay. The reception staff are really lovely and answered all my questions and supported me in helping my dad during this time. All the staff are lovely!

My mother spent twenty months at Chyvarhas Care Home, Callington. My mother suffered from dementia. Every member of staff from the kitchen, reception, nurses and care workers cared for my mother with care, love, professionalism and kindness and dignity. I am unable to express in words how grateful I am that my mum was cared for at Chyvarhas. In such challenging and sad circumstances, Chyvarhas was the only positive in my mother's final months. Every member of staff is exceptional and goes above and beyond their roles.

Very friendly atmosphere. Staff are very caring and helpful. Food is more than adequate and plentiful. Security is very good. Our friend is always smiling and appears to be very happy.

The residents were given a lovely Christmas Day. Mum's room was small but had a pleasant View.

Staff are often on their phones when working. Staff are caring but often overlook basic needs ie; hearing aids, pads and shoes being done up. The overall home feels quite chaotic, the large dining/living area often has a TV on, radio on and music coming from the kitchen. My mother was unsure how to use this space. Lack of activities run by someone who knows the residents and their level of functioning. The manager was very helpful. Particular staff are excellent and need nurturing.

Unfortunately, my friend was taken ill and passed away within 24 hours. The home kept me up to date from the start. I asked if I could visit, and that was encouraged. I was with my friend when he took seriously ill. The team all knew their position as he passed. Every step was taken to revive. I was informed in such a dignified manner. Every single member of staff was just amazing as they always have been in the seven years I have been visiting. Great home and great staff.

The only criticism I had was quite often the response time when I used the call bell and I would like to have known what activities were available.

I visited my aunt today at 11.30 to find her in her room. The bed was not made, there were breakfast dishes, and her commode was half full of urine! She was still in her nightwear and her incontinence pad was hanging out the back of her pyjama trousers like a tail. She was brought a cup of coffee so the assistant was asked politely if she could remove the urine. We understood she was busy! She came back grabbed the bucket returned with it, threw it into the commode in a rage, and walked out. The bucket had not even been washed out let alone sanitised as there was still yellow urine in the bottom of it. My aunt had to ask me if I would mind dressing her which I did putting on clean pad and underwear but why has she not been dressed? No one has showered her or even washed her and this is now going on to the afternoon! This is certainly not acceptable, where is the welfare for these people in your care? I am appalled at this hygiene level. I had to clear up her room.

I cannot thank them enough for the care they have provided and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in our very sad situation.

Weekend, not enough staff, in my opinion, therefore patients in bed for longer than they should be.

Speaking from my personal experience, I shall be eternally grateful to all the Chyvarhas team, who cared for my dad during his short stay at the end of 2020. Their professionalism, empathy and dedication were faultless with continual updates regarding my dad's wellbeing/health, for which I cannot thank them enough. I have only just felt strong enough to be able to write a review, after my dad's passing in December, but felt it totally justified and my only regret is that he never got to spend more quality time with the caring staff and other residents, in their supportive environment. Thank you all.

The staff at Chyvarhas (Cornish for Meeting Place) are very kind and patient with residents and their visitors - not an easy job.

My mother in law can be a difficult person and sometimes unkind, the staff manage her very well and she has now settled in. I have found the staff most helpful to all my enquiries and would recommend Chyvarhas to anyone who has loved ones who require managed care.

Chyvarhas staff without exception are kind, supportive and welcoming. The home has a warm, caring, ambience and I'm glad for my mother.

Chyvarhas is a place I would recommend to families looking for residential care for a loved one. My husband and all the family have received the greatest care from a dedicated loving staff in all areas. The management keeps in close touch and is always approachable. Thank you so much Chyvarhas team for all you do. I now have a life back, free from stress and fear of the future for my husband's care.

Thank you very much "Chyvarhas team" the whole "Chyvarhas Team" are always very kind and supportive to Dad and endeavour to look after him and us his family at all times. Dad is always clean and well turned out. Whenever we visit and is bright and well in himself. The team are friendly approachable and always plenty of staff on duty, never long waits for dad if he wants the toilet.

Extremely satisfied with the care for my family member. Staff are kind and courteous and respect the wishes of the client and the family. His diet is continually assessed and we are happy about this as we had concerns that have been addressed.

She enjoyed her food and being the one that was being looked after for a change. She deserved it.
