With a devoted manager who has been with the home for over 20 years, and a deputy manager of over 15 years, Pengover is highly respected in the local community.

With just 36 bedrooms, the home has four wings, each with its own cosy lounge, where residents can relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time and often enjoy taking part in activities with the residents. From animal therapy sessions and baking, to live entertainment from singers and musicians, there’s so much to do.

Outside there are extensive gardens surrounding the home, with wheelchair friendly pathways. Many of the bedrooms have garden views. The back garden is completely enclosed and features planters and raised beds. There is also a vegetable patch where residents enjoy growing their own produce, harvesting it for the chef to use in the kitchen. The team is also planning on creating a mini allotment area ready for the summer.

The local community is embraced into life in the home, including local college students who take part in intergenerational activities. The home also has a ‘Mobii’, where residents can play interactive light games which are projected onto the floor.

There is a spacious central dining room, where the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, prepared by the home’s chef. From roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The home also has a hairdressing salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser who visits weekly. The residents also enjoy pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages.

Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, the team at Pengover also offers respite care breaks. These are ideal for family carers who would like to take a break of their own, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2025 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1627 and for nursing care £1715, but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

As a content visitor to my partner, I have found the home always friendly, warm and pleasant. All staff are helpful and cheerful. The décor in all areas and rooms give a relaxing feel and a cup of tea or coffee etc is always available. I say a 'happy home'.

My mother as been a resident since May 2015. My experience although fairly limited is of a caring environment where nothing is too much trouble and the carers are always polite are are often working with residents who can be fairly wearing on the soul. I would say that they all go above and beyond the
call of duty to ensure that everyone is probably taken care of. When my mother first came here she was depressed incontinent and unable to walk. She is sitting with us now very happy able to walk unaided and able to feed herself. The care staff deserve a medal.

Great friendly caring home. Lovely staff, good holistic care, treat residents as individuals. Only issue is sometimes mum needs to be cleaned (toilet) as she smells but when pointed out the staff they help).

Our mother has many medical needs and she has been well cared for by medical support staff except on one occasion when a bank nurse on night shift refused to contact me when my mother wanted me with her when she was feeling ill. We were both very upset about this and hope it never happens again. We
all enjoyed the Queen's Birthday lunch and appreciate the staff hard work in putting it on.

My mother in law was admitted to Pengover House in August last year and was there until her death last month. The manager and her team of staff have been an absolute rock through all the good times and most recently the bad times. We as a family hold the staff and the quality of the work they do in
very high esteem. They are local people and the pride in their work is faultless.
They have supported us as a family before, during and after the death of mother in law in the same humble way that they go about their work. We feel very privileged to have known such a welcoming group of individuals with true values for people's lives, no matter what age or what their ailments are.
Never once did I have a complaint, if I asked for anything then it was soon dealt with. We cannot praise this home enough.

I would just like to thank the staff for the reception they gave visiting family members and their attention to ensuring that we could enjoy and make the most of our time with Mum on her birthday. Considering the changes that we have all gone through in the last year, not least Mum, it was just great

We have found the care given to my mother-in-law is second to none. The patience and kindness given to her has been excellent in every way. The fact that she has had a lot of change giving up her home and she has had medical conditions her temperament is not always easy but the patience of the staff

The home is very good, nice staff, the staff answer the bell quickly. The room I'm in is spacious, I tell people that visit that this is my home now. I have a small appetite, the food is lovely, especially the pasta.

I have been visiting Pengover House for many years taking a short service of Holy Communion. In my last visit I found the staff helpful, courteous and they also showed helpful, kind care to the residents promptly meeting needs i.e. toilet requests! They are redecorating the main dining area at present
but the workmen kept the disturbance to a minimum and gave the residents a new interest! The general atmosphere and ambience is good and the place clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and give much individual care to residents as needed. I would be happy to be a resident there!

Could not have wished for a better care home, all expectations have been met. The staff have been extremely helpful in every way possible. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, their willingness to help is to be admired, every patient/client is treated with the same respect as anyone else.

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2002

I started my journey in 2002 working at Pengover as a care assistant then progressing to senior care assistant after completing my degree in Psychology.


As I grew into my role an opportunity to become a Deputy Manager came up and I was fortunate to apply and was successful. I worked closely with the Manager, learning more skills to ensure that Pengover, the clients, staff and family members felt valued and respected.


I remained in the role of Deputy for five years, during this time I completed my Operations Departmental Management CMI level 5. This opportunity gave me insight not only into myself but also into Management style and leadership styles.


In 2022 I applied for and was successful in the role of registered Manager. I continue to learn, I feel that learning and evolving are never-ending.


I am passionate about Pengover, the clients we care for, the staff we support and the families that visit their loved ones.


I believe that Pengover is a home, not only for the clients we care for but also for
staff, family members and visitors.
