The home is very good, nice staff, the staff answer the bell quickly. The room I'm in is spacious, I tell people that visit that this is my home now. I have a small appetite, the food is lovely, especially the pasta.

I have been visiting Pengover House for many years taking a short service of Holy Communion. In my last visit I found the staff helpful, courteous and they also showed helpful, kind care to the residents promptly meeting needs i.e. toilet requests! They are redecorating the main dining area at present but the workmen kept the disturbance to a minimum and gave the residents a new interest! The general atmosphere and ambience is good and the place clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and give much individual care to residents as needed. I would be happy to be a resident there!

Could not have wished for a better care home, all expectations have been met. The staff have been extremely helpful in every way possible. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, their willingness to help is to be admired, every patient/client is treated with the same respect as anyone else.

It is a care home that really cares.

Overall Experience

Dad was admitted to Pengover straight from hospital as there was a bed available there at the time. We live in Par (17 miles and around half an hour drive away) and although various healthcare professionals, from other agencies we met over the first few weeks were concerned of the travel time for us, we would not dream of dad being looked after anywhere else. Myself and mum had visited a local care home just before dad was due to be discharged from hospital and refused to let him go there. We hadn't heard of Pengover House before as it isn't local to us. Boy, did we get the 1st prize!

Anyone that knows me will understand that to sing praises like I do for Pengover must mean that it is particularly special.

The staff, without exception, are very friendly towards both residents and their visitors. Residents are looked after with care, dignity and patience and staff keep a careful eye on them to ensure that they are fed, watered and receive medical attention when needed (all very well documented). On my last visit one member of the care team said that she was on duty when one of the residents was in his last hours of life. She said "I couldn't just go home, I wanted to sit with him until the end". This is really going the extra mile and illustrates the level of care and compassion given by these special people.

If you are considering placing a member of your family here...don't hesitate, just do it and you will be very pleased you did.

Amy LucasJob Title:ManagerJoined: 2002

I started my journey in 2002 working at Pengover as a care assistant then progressing to senior care assistant after completing my degree in Psychology.

As I grew into my role an opportunity to become a Deputy Manager came up and I was fortunate to apply and was successful. I worked closely with the Manager, learning more skills to ensure that Pengover, the clients, staff and family members felt valued and respected.

I remained in the role of Deputy for five years, during this time I completed my Operations Departmental Management CMI level 5. This opportunity gave me insight not only into myself but also into Management style and leadership styles.

In 2022 I applied for and was successful in the role of registered Manager. I continue to learn, I feel that learning and evolving are never-ending.

I am passionate about Pengover, the clients we care for, the staff we support and the families that visit their loved ones.

I believe that Pengover is a home, not only for the clients we care for but also for

staff, family members and visitors.
