Winner of the Best Performing Home in Cornwall at Sanctuary Care’s annual Home Managers’ Conference 2023, the home manager has been with Woodland since 2011. She and her team are passionate about organising experiences and activities which bring their residents such joy.
There is such a warm, family feel to the home and family and friends are truly embraced into life at Woodland, as are the relatives of the staff, some of whom are volunteers and help with gardening and other activities.
There is also a private family and friends Facebook page, so relatives can see what their loved ones have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there each day in person.
The team is passionate about embracing the local community into the home, with regular visitors including students from Cornwall College, who enjoy intergenerational activities with the residents.
There are regular performers and entertainers, including a local drumming group, singers, and organisations who bring in animals for pet therapy, with everything from dogs and guinea pigs to rabbits and snakes!
There is a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser. And many of the residents enjoy pampering sessions, with manicures and face masks. The home also has a Tiki bar!
Other popular activities are baking and gardening. This summer the residents have loved growing their own produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, with everything from courgettes to runner beans, as well as home-grown flowers for flower arranging activities.
There are welcoming lounges and a large light and airy dining area, where the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays, and home-baking for afternoon tea.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed. Our 2026 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1557, but may be in the region of 30% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.

The dining room was the hub of the home and was set out to welcome everyone. The food was very good and nourishing. Mums food preferences were acknowledged and alternatives provided. It was nice for the residents and their families to be able to spend time in the garden although it was a little overgrown. Staff always had time for a chat and showed an interest in mum. We all felt she was well cared for and safe. The only issues were the difficulties in parking when visiting and knowing if the entry bell had rung and been heard.

My uncle has been a resident at Woodland since April 2024. He was previously admitted to hospital very poorly and suffering from neglect. When he left hospital he was very frail but on his way to recovery. Since being at Woodland however, his health and general condition has improved immeasurably....

He has benefitted from eating regularly and healthily and his interaction with friendly staff and other residents has made him more sociable than any of his relatives can recall. I needed 24-hour care and received it at Woodlands. The staff gave me a feeling of safety, my needs were always met, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Their friendship and humour were so good. They made me the biggest birthday cake I have ever had. I would recommend Woodland and already have.

I have made several visits to see my friend and on each occasion, I received a friendly welcome from a member of staff. I noticed how clean and tidy the home was, as was my friend's room. If I happened to be there at tea or coffee time, I too was offered a drink, which was lovely. In addition, I witnessed how staff interacted with my friend and on every occasion, she was spoken to in a kind, warm, friendly manner, with great respect, dignity and a good measure of humour which we all appreciated. I believe that the staff are exceptional and I am curious to know how they are trained to have such a genuine empathetic approach.
