My Mother has recently moved into Arcot House and is settling quickly. My Parents both received a very warm welcome by the Arcot Team with my Father being encouraged to visit whenever he wishes. Dad has lunch with Mum several times a week which has helped them both to accept the situation and it is
good that Dad feels a little bit spoilt as well. We have been able to personalise Mum's room and bring in her own furniture and pictures making it feel more like a home from home. Since her admission Mum has had a few falls but the staff have responded to this by introducing measures to minimise the risk and by encouraging her to mobilise, which has helped her balance as well as strengthen her legs.
Arcot House is very clean, bright and fresh smelling. There is a good activities programme and Mum has been out to the local garden centre for coffee already. The food is well presented and there is a choice on the menu with different diets accommodated.
Mum has only lived at Arcot House for a short period but we are all very impressed with the home and staff and would recommend Arcot House to anyone who needs care and companionship.

All the staff were excellent, very caring, helpful and friendly. The food was also very good and the staff assisted me as necessary at meal times. I was at Arcot House for nine days respite care and felt very "looked after" during my stay. Although wheelchair bound I still went out on two trips to the
coast in their mini bus with the carer and enjoyed them. Thank you all.

My mother has been in Arcot Care home for over ten years and has seen many changes in all this time her care has been to a very high standard. The home itself has now been updated and all rooms and communal rooms have been brought up to a very high standard. Carer are full time which means residents
get to know them all and build up a good rapport with them and the carers get to know each residents needs. I understand many residents are taken out regularly to various local attractions and have entertainment in the home. Unfortunately my mothers health does not allow her to join in these activities but enjoys her many games of scrabble with a member of staff in her room. As much as possible I feel Arcot is now a "Home from Home".

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.527)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.527) out of 10 for Arcot House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.827 for Arcot House is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.827
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Arcot House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2025

My name is Helen and I am the Manager at Arcot House.

I have been in the care industry for 7.5 years, and at the beginning, I went into the care industry as I was looking for a job that would work around a young family, so I started working evenings for a domiciliary care company. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed it and that I wanted to make a career for myself in care, and that career adapted as my children grew up.

My favourite thing about working in care is the positive changes that you can make every day to those you support, building relationships with individuals and their families.

Supporting the staff team to grow and develop in confidence, providing outstanding care throughout every task we do.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family, especially going on holiday. I love the heat! I am married and have four children and one granddaughter.
We are a family of animal lovers and adore our pets. When I want some quiet time, I can be found riding my horse around the lanes of East Devon.
