My father moved into Arcot house in June this year. From the start of his stay the level of care from all members of staff has been excellent. The home is well managed and we are always kept informed of any issues. The quality of furniture and room decoration is very good and the food provided is of good
quality.

I was always concerned about the quality of care that my father would have but Arcot has more than exceeded my expectations

This is such a warm, caring environment where the staff try and go the extra mile for all of their residents. Always a cheerful happy place where nothing is too much trouble. Always a welcome and smile at the door, residents seem content and as happy as they can be. Entertainment and involvement encouraged at all times. Reassurance by staff and time given when needed to all.

I have my own basic bedroom furniture (except for bed - sing).
The friendliness of all staff is encouraged by the pictures allowed in my room.
Freedom of movement is allowed to some degree as I'm not allowed to "travel on my own".

The décor of the home whilst I have been in residence has all be attended to in a grand manner.

All in all, the staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the home itself is nice. There have been times due to staff shortage, where I have had to make Nan's bed, and empty sanitary bins. The atmosphere is generally a nice one, though there is always room for improvement. Nan's personal care could be better, but that depends more on Nan allowing them to help her. There are some outstanding members of staff who go the extra mile to be kind, considerate and helpful.

Reply from Keith Mills, Director at Arcot House

There has been no occasion since Doveleigh Care Ltd bought Arcot House in February this year that the home has been understaffed. As part of our quality assurance service, our staffing levels are regularly reviewed using a dependency score system.

An excellent quiet, secure and comfortable home where mum feels safe and she can be cared for all day and night. She has always been happy when we visit and she is clean and tidy. She seems very comfortable with the carers and responds to them all well. It is great to know that she is being looked after so well, each and every day. Thank you all so much.

I am very happy to leave Arcot House after visiting my husband. The staff always are very welcome, pleased to see with a smile, making it a pleasurable visit. It is very reassuring to leave knowing he's in such good hands. He is very well cared for socially with a library and lounge with first class easy choices with a multiplicity of games, an excellent fish tank with a very pleasing selection of tropical fish. There is a Stannah chair lift easy access to individual rooms. The dining room is a show piece with staff in attendance, it is a pleasure to dine.

I feel like heaven when I am home in Devon, to look out the window makes my cares go away. The girls are so kind they leave the rest behind. The girls are so nice - they're sugar and spice. The Manager is fair and she is always there to provide the love and care.

My Mother has recently moved into Arcot House and is settling quickly. My Parents both received a very warm welcome by the Arcot Team with my Father being encouraged to visit whenever he wishes. Dad has lunch with Mum several times a week which has helped them both to accept the situation and it is good that Dad feels a little bit spoilt as well. We have been able to personalise Mum's room and bring in her own furniture and pictures making it feel more like a home from home. Since her admission Mum has had a few falls but the staff have responded to this by introducing measures to minimise the risk and by encouraging her to mobilise, which has helped her balance as well as strengthen her legs.
Arcot House is very clean, bright and fresh smelling. There is a good activities programme and Mum has been out to the local garden centre for coffee already. The food is well presented and there is a choice on the menu with different diets accommodated.

Mum has only lived at Arcot House for a short period but we are all very impressed with the home and staff and would recommend Arcot House to anyone who needs care and companionship.

All the staff were excellent, very caring, helpful and friendly. The food was also very good and the staff assisted me as necessary at meal times. I was at Arcot House for nine days respite care and felt very "looked after" during my stay. Although wheelchair bound I still went out on two trips to the coast in their mini bus with the carer and enjoyed them. Thank you all.

My mother has been in Arcot Care home for over ten years and has seen many changes in all this time her care has been to a very high standard. The home itself has now been updated and all rooms and communal rooms have been brought up to a very high standard. Carer are full time which means residents get to know them all and build up a good rapport with them and the carers get to know each residents needs. I understand many residents are taken out regularly to various local attractions and have entertainment in the home. Unfortunately my mothers health does not allow her to join in these activities but enjoys her many games of scrabble with a member of staff in her room. As much as possible I feel Arcot is now a "Home from Home".

Helen Job Title:ManagerJoined: 2025

My name is Helen and I am the Manager at Arcot House.

I have been in the care industry for 7.5 years, and at the beginning, I went into the care industry as I was looking for a job that would work around a young family, so I started working evenings for a domiciliary care company. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed it and that I wanted to make a career for myself in care, and that career adapted as my children grew up.

My favourite thing about working in care is the positive changes that you can make every day to those you support, building relationships with individuals and their families.

Supporting the staff team to grow and develop in confidence, providing outstanding care throughout every task we do.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family, especially going on holiday. I love the heat! I am married and have four children and one granddaughter.

We are a family of animal lovers and adore our pets. When I want some quiet time, I can be found riding my horse around the lanes of East Devon.

Ben
Ben Job Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2025

I have been in the care industry since 2006. I started as a kitchen assistant, then transitioned into doing care. I have completed my NVQs and worked my way up to management.

I have always wanted to help people who are in need. I grew up with an extended family and have been close with my grandparents. Working with elderly people and caregiving in general makes me think of how precious life is.

My favourite thing about working in care is learning about elderly people and their life experiences. Always interested in hearing their advice and take on things.

Outside of work, I do not do much outdoor stuff, but when I do, I always do it with my family, visiting places and landmarks. When I am at home, I play a lot of online games.
