I have now stayed at Arcot House a few times for respite care and each time I have noticed improvements. The home is looking really nice, clean and has a lovely homely atmosphere. It has been refurbished to a very high standard in the last few months, which I like. The staff are so welcoming and friendly,
I think of them as extended family. I now look forward to my stays here and meeting everyone during activities provided by the home. I look at it here as my second home now. I would really recommend a visit.

All the staff are wonderful - extremely caring and considerate. They certainly try and attend to all the needs of everyone living at Arcot. I am so pleased that my mother was fortunate enough to get into Arcot. I live in Canada to it is a huge relief to know that my mother is being well cared for in
Sidmouth.

My mother has only been at Arcot House for two weeks but is already feeling very much at home. From the minute she arrived she and we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who have all been very kind and friendly. My mum loves her room, is being very well looked
after and is enjoying the tasty meals. She was understandably very apprehensive about moving to a care home, but it has been a very positive experience for both her and us and we are very grateful to everyone at Arcot.

As the main relative of a resident in Arcot House I can honestly say that every aspect of the home has impressed me. The patience, love and care exhibited by managers and staff is exemplary. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. Outings are many, varied and interesting and each resident is treated
as an individual and the staff bend over backwards to meet their special requests and requirement. I would be very happy to live here myself.

Mum has been at Arcot House since May 2014. I have nothing but praise for the staff. Mum is treated with care and kindness at all times. Everyone is so friendly towards us her family as well as to the residents in their care. I can think of no nicer place to live if 'home' is no longer
an option.
It is a wonderful caring, friendly environment and knowing that mum is receiving such a high level of care helps to give us some peace of mind. We are extremely grateful that mum is being cared for in such a lovely place with such caring staff. I would be happy to recommend Arcot House to anyone.

My father moved into Arcot house in June this year. From the start of his stay the level of care from all members of staff has been excellent. The home is well managed and we are always kept informed of any issues. The quality of furniture and room decoration is very good and the food provided is of
good
quality.
I was always concerned about the quality of care that my father would have but Arcot has more than exceeded my expectations

This is such a warm, caring environment where the staff try and go the extra mile for all of their residents. Always a cheerful happy place where nothing is too much trouble. Always a welcome and smile at the door, residents seem content and as happy as they can be. Entertainment and involvement encouraged
at all times. Reassurance by staff and time given when needed to all.

I have my own basic bedroom furniture (except for bed - sing).
The friendliness of all staff is encouraged by the pictures allowed in my room.
Freedom of movement is allowed to some degree as I'm not allowed to "travel on my own".
The décor of the home whilst I have been in residence has all be attended
to in a grand manner.

All in all, the staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the home itself is nice. There have been times due to staff shortage, where I have had to make Nan's bed, and empty sanitary bins. The atmosphere is generally a nice one, though there is always room for improvement. Nan's personal care could be
better, but that depends more on Nan allowing them to help her. There are some outstanding members of staff who go the extra mile to be kind, considerate and helpful.
Reply from Keith Mills, Director at Arcot House

There has been no occasion since Doveleigh Care Ltd bought Arcot House in February this year that the home has been understaffed. As part of our quality assurance service, our staffing levels are regularly reviewed using a dependency score system.

An excellent quiet, secure and comfortable home where mum feels safe and she can be cared for all day and night. She has always been happy when we visit and she is clean and tidy. She seems very comfortable with the carers and responds to them all well. It is great to know that she is being looked after
so well, each and every day. Thank you all so much.

I am very happy to leave Arcot House after visiting my husband. The staff always are very welcome, pleased to see with a smile, making it a pleasurable visit. It is very reassuring to leave knowing he's in such good hands. He is very well cared for socially with a library and lounge with first class
easy choices with a multiplicity of games, an excellent fish tank with a very pleasing selection of tropical fish. There is a Stannah chair lift easy access to individual rooms. The dining room is a show piece with staff in attendance, it is a pleasure to dine.

I feel like heaven when I am home in Devon, to look out the window makes my cares go away. The girls are so kind they leave the rest behind. The girls are so nice - they're sugar and spice. The Manager is fair and she is always there to provide the love and care.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.527)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.527) out of 10 for Arcot House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.827 for Arcot House is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.827
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Arcot House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My name is Helen and I am the Manager at Arcot House.

I have been in the care industry for 7.5 years, and at the beginning, I went into the care industry as I was looking for a job that would work around a young family, so I started working evenings for a domiciliary care company. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed it and that I wanted to make a career for myself in care, and that career adapted as my children grew up.

My favourite thing about working in care is the positive changes that you can make every day to those you support, building relationships with individuals and their families.

Supporting the staff team to grow and develop in confidence, providing outstanding care throughout every task we do.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family, especially going on holiday. I love the heat! I am married and have four children and one granddaughter.
We are a family of animal lovers and adore our pets. When I want some quiet time, I can be found riding my horse around the lanes of East Devon.
