Anchor’s Selkirk House, in Plymouth, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 42 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle. It is located in the heart of Plymstock, close to local amenities and provides dementia care.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care; respite care; trial stays and long-term care for those who can no longer look after themselves. Selkirk House continues to welcome new residents. The home has achieved Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation.

The care team get to know residents and work with them to organise stimulating activities which match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community. Each resident’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements.

Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, and where possible by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

Anchor is England’s largest provider of housing and care for those over 55 years of age and has 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit provider of services to older people.

Anchor reinvests the money made into their retirement properties and care homes to continually raise standards and to provide a high-quality service to surpass expectations.

My mother has dementia and recently went into Selkirk House for respite with a view to permanent placement. It was initially traumatic for us all as Mum couldn't understand or remember why she was there. The staff and management were very understanding and supportive. They put lots of measures in place
to help Mum settle such as a buddy system. In the first few weeks, there was regular contact giving us feedback and reassurance. She has settled well and is flourishing as a result of the care and attention she is receiving. Everyone is friendly, approachable, warm and caring. The environment is bright and comfortable and there is a good program of activities to encourage residents to socialise and keep them stimulated.

I recently took Mum out for a short drive in the car. Beforehand I phoned Selkirk House. The lady in reception was very welcoming and promised to inform the staff that I would like Mum to be ready at 3.30 pm that day. Mum was appropriately dressed for a trip out and a staff member helped Mum, who was
feeling a little anxious, to get into the care with lots of patience, encouragement and caring words. Mm thoroughly enjoyed her trip.

Both my auntie and mother have been residents at Selkirk House. The care provided is of the highest standard. The care home is kept in an immaculate condition, the staff go about their daily tasks in an exemplary manner. Everyone is treated with care and dignity and nothing is too much trouble. The

My mum who is 93 years old and blind has been in Selkirk House since July 2023. She is always clean and dressed and we are extremely pleased with the care she receives, she goes to the dining room guided by a carer every day for meals which encourages her to eat. The staff, who are always polite and
caring speak to her by name and take her hand and say their name which is very important for someone who cannot see. Since being in Selkirk House Mum has made a friend who often sits in her room and it is so lovely to see them having tea and biscuits from the trolley together. Mum loves the activities and we were pleased to see that some have been adapted for Mum's loss of sight. The alpacas were a hit.
Overall, we are really pleased with Mum's care and do not feel anxious about her now. thank you to all the friendly and welcoming staff.

I cannot rate the staff at Selkirk House in Plymouth highly enough. The care and consideration shown for us as a family has been exemplary. My father has been in for a period of respite and knowing that he is in such safe hands makes me and my family relax. I’ve always said that you have to be a certain
type of person to be a carer and Selkirk has some of the very best in my opinion, especially the deputy manager who, from the dad’s assessment to day-to-day care has gone above and beyond. Thank you to you all.

My mum stayed as a respite client for eight weeks. She was taken care of in a holistic manner. Her clothes were all washed and kept perfect. She loved her room and the food. The care team at Selkirk House have welcomed our mum with such warmth and care, which has helped our mum and my siblings enormously with the transition from home to care home. All staff are very pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble. When I can't find any carers, I ask the kitchen staff, and they will find a carer for me to talk to. My mother is kept clean and tidy; this also applies to her room and bathroom. There are no undesirable smells throughout the whole building.
It's like a five-star hotel.

I have generally been impressed with the level of care given to my grandma. However, I phoned up to find out how my grandma was, and the senior carer not only could tell me in detail but also went the extra mile to help me speak to my grandma, who has dementia and can't hold the phone. The carer held
the phone for her, made sure she could hear me and tried to help her understand by showing her pictures. She went above and beyond!

Parents went into Selkirk in March. Both found it hard to deal with, and Dad went downhill, but it was still the best decision. Dad sadly passed away, but all the staff before, during and after have been amazing. And although Dad has now gone, Mum is going to stay there and is now loving it. It's clean,
smells fresh, and staff are always cheerful no matter what.

My mother-in-law has been living at Selkirk for 18-months or more. In that time, she has really settled in and enjoys the company of other residents and visits from the staff.
Throughout that time, all the staff have been excellent. They are kind, caring, and nothing is ever too much trouble. They
really do all work as a team in looking after the residents.
In December last year (2021), her daughter (my wife), died very quickly, which was a tremendous shock to her, and she took it very badly. All the staff rallied around and really helped and supported her during this very difficult period, spending extra time with her and being prepared to just sit and reassure her. One carer actually attended the funeral with her and was a massive support and consolation to her.
I would like to give sincere thanks to all the staff at Selkirk. Your work is really appreciated, and it is reassuring to know she is in a safe and supported place.
