Anchor’s Selkirk House, in Plymouth, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 42 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle. It is located in the heart of Plymstock, close to local amenities and provides dementia care.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care; respite care; trial stays and long-term care for those who can no longer look after themselves. Selkirk House continues to welcome new residents. The home has achieved Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation.

The care team get to know residents and work with them to organise stimulating activities which match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community. Each resident’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements.

Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, and where possible by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

Anchor is England’s largest provider of housing and care for those over 55 years of age and has 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit provider of services to older people.

My mother-in-law has been living at Selkirk for 18-months or more. In that time, she has really settled in and enjoys the company of other residents and visits from the staff.
Throughout that time, all the staff have been excellent. They are kind, caring, and nothing is ever too much trouble. They
really do all work as a team in looking after the residents.
In December last year (2021), her daughter (my wife), died very quickly, which was a tremendous shock to her, and she took it very badly. All the staff rallied around and really helped and supported her during this very difficult period, spending extra time with her and being prepared to just sit and reassure her. One carer actually attended the funeral with her and was a massive support and consolation to her.
I would like to give sincere thanks to all the staff at Selkirk. Your work is really appreciated, and it is reassuring to know she is in a safe and supported place.

Selkirk House is like home from home. A very friendly although professional workforce. The care given is second to none, always abiding by Covid rules etc, to protect residents as well as staff. The food prepared is excellent homemade food and always enjoyed. Lots of activities in-house - overall, an

A good place for many to retire to. Good facilities and caring staff. Precautions over the Covid period have been good but has resulted in a lack of activities and residents having to spend too long in isolation.
Even now, with all the relaxation of precautions, there is a lack of organisation to
allow residents to become more active. I realise a shortage of staff has made things difficult, but residents have not even been encouraged to take exercise by walking the corridors. Someone needs to take responsibility for everyday activities.

Selkirk House is a well-kept home, light, airy and feels welcoming. The manager has time for relatives, listens to concerns and responds appropriately. The past 18-months have been extremely challenging for the care sector. I appreciate the support that has been given to Mum when we have been unable

The care given by the staff is excellent, and dignity is maintained by all staff towards our mother. The food is unimaginative and lacks flexibility, despite residents feedback at residents meetings. Ideas/suggestions seem to be greeted with enthusiasm but rarely implemented. Activities, also unimaginative
and regularly cancelled.

Very professional and caring, friendly staff. Mum has been very happy with the care from all staff. There were difficulties with activities during the pandemic, hopefully, this will improve with the changing of rules. It will certainly help with the mental health and the morale of residents.

My 91-year-old Mother moved into Selkirk House at the beginning of January 2017. Both of us were grateful that she made that transition as life at home was becoming precarious. I always felt that the combination of having her own room surrounded by her own possessions but accompanied by 24/7 care when
required was ideal, and so it proved with several trips to hospital over her four years of residence which were always handled effectively and with compassion. She died last week (January 2021) at the age of 95. I am extremely appreciative for the care and compassion of the team that nursed her during those final days. This was particularly important as I am an only child and live in Worcestershire, and none of us could predict the impact of the COVID pandemic on our lives and ability to travel. In her conversations with me in person and on the telephone, she always stated how much she appreciated being able to live her final years at Selkirk.

My Dad lived in Selkirk House for the last three years and it became his home. Sadly, he passed away this month but the care he received during that time and particularly during his last few weeks, was quite simply wonderful. Every staff member we met showed him kindness and consideration and the same
was shown to us - and some - when we were by his side towards the end. You are all amazing people. Thank you.

Very welcoming for Mum when she first arrived and settled in. The staff are always cheerful, helpful and all know Mum's name which is important.
