My Dad lived in Selkirk House for the last three years and it became his home. Sadly, he passed away this month but the care he received during that time and particularly during his last few weeks, was quite simply wonderful. Every staff member we met showed him kindness and consideration and the same
was shown to us - and some - when we were by his side towards the end. You are all amazing people. Thank you.

Excellent information when being shown the care home facilities and how the staff could support Mum.

Very welcoming for Mum when she first arrived and settled in. The staff are always cheerful, helpful and all know Mum's name which is important.

I cannot compliment the staff at Selkirk enough. The care, and love, they give to my grandma is second to none. Grandma had been unwell recently and, at times, quite difficult to deal with. The wonderful staff have treated her with patience and care as if she was their own family member.
With the
regular posts on social media, and phone calls to the home, they keep us updated of what she’s doing when we aren’t there, and we get to see a wonderful side of life at Selkirk, owls and rabbits visiting, singers singing wartime songs and much much more.
If I could hug every member of staff for what they do for grandma and our family, I would. These men and women are angels and deserve to be treated as such.
Thank You.

Very thorough and professional. Listened to everything I had to say. Whilst being very professional, they were also very caring and considerate.
There is nothing bad I can say about this member of staff. What a credit they are to the company.

Having only recent experience of care homes my first impression on entering this home was the friendly, inviting atmosphere. The staff I have met all seem very helpful and caring, especially in some difficult situations and that, as the family of a resident, is all that you want. The best of care possible.

My Mym has been here, at Selkirk House, for a few months and I've seen her progress from being unwell to being restored to health. We, as a family, are so grateful for the care that has been shown to her. She is very happy and enjoying the staff who care for her. A very big thank you to you all.

I came to Selkirk House for a fortnight's respite in January and I am happy to stay permanently. Having my little cat here with me makes a big difference to me and I am very grateful for this and for the kindness and hospitality to my daughter when she was 'snowbound' and could not get home. The staff
here are un-obtrusively caring. My room is warm and comfortable with a pleasant outlook. I can play my piano or listen to the radio or TV without disturbing anybody.

In my opinion, this home compares favourably with others I have visited in the neighbourhood.

My mother was a resident at Selkirk House for nearly 20 years and was very happy. The last 4 months of her life, she was unwell and the staff took great care of her - all staff from management down to ground level.

When end of life care was established the care she received was above and beyond

anywhere else she could have been nursed.

Wonderful people.

A well-run care home. The staff are very considerate towards the residents. They are helpful and friendly in dealing with visitors. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.765)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.765) out of 10 for Selkirk House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.765 for Selkirk House is calculated as follows: ( (290 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 366 Ratings = 4.765
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Selkirk House is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
