I’ve recently had a short stay at Fairlawn whilst my family were away. The care staff were excellent, food was delicious and I can’t fault the home. Highly recommend for a short stay. Very convenient location, close to where I live so I was able to continue to see my friends.

I found Fairlawns very friendly the staff were caring and did their very best and I greatly admire their patience with some very difficult situations. The managers were not always great but the managers there at the moment, I found very friendly, and they made me feel welcome.

My experience of the care home in which my wife now resides is excellent. The care provided far surpasses the previous care home and all she was interested in when she was in hospital for a month was "when can I go home to my room?" The staff are real carers and friendly with their charges. The food there has room for improvement but then again you cannot please all the residents all of the time.

My mother is cared for very well which gives her family relief. Sometimes her clothes, handkerchiefs and other items belonging to her which are named/labelled go missing. They sometimes come back but sometimes not such as a handkerchief and laundry bag which my eldest sister bought for her in Madiera. We trust and respect all the staff and wish the government would pay them the same as nurses. God help us if carers went on strike.

Generally mum and I are very happy with everything at the home. If mum has anything to say about the home, it's about the food and cost of care and sometimes the activities. But you can't please everybody all the time.

Always a warm welcome is offered to me when I visit the home. Staff know who I am and who I am visiting. My mother is very well cared for, he room is always clean and tidy, and staff respect her privacy and how her room has all her personal items, i.e. pictures and ornaments around, which are left as she wants them. She has choices of activities, hairdresser etc, and they meet her needs with her choice of food. Overall, she is happy there, which is what is important for us both.

I've always been grateful for the care Fairlawn has shown my mum, and the dedication of the staff, particularly in the times of Covid, however since the new manager has been in the home I've definitely seen an improvement in the standard of care/communication. The manager sets a great example in her work ethic, wearing many a hat,(manager, carer etc). All staff that I've met couldn't be any more dedicated to their roles with little thanks in means of pay from our government.

I attended in August with my husband. We found the staff to be very friendly and courteous. We found the building to be of an excellent standard with regard to cleanliness and decor. We feel that my mother-in-law will receive excellent care and seems settled and happy here.

My husband has Alzheimer's and after a fall was sent for rehabilitation, after a broken hip, to Fairlawn. I have always found all the staff helpful, friendly and reassuring. He has been cared for since and although I have found the situation heartbreaking for me, I realise he is receiving excellent care as he remains physically very well. I am thankful and grateful for the care he receives.

My mother spent 8 years at Fairlawn, until her recent death in May. During that time, apart from some bouts of anxiety, I believe she was extremely happy. she was under the care of ever changing personnel in the latter years, but practically without exception all the staff were caring, empathetic and professional with her. Cheery words, a joke and banter without ever overstepping the marl. This applied from management to kitchen staff and a truly lovely cleaning lady. There was also an activities lady who became close to Mum on a religious level. In these testing times I do home all recruitment of staff can be spared and provided training to keep up these high standards.

The home have worked well under extreme circumstances and changing staff, however, continuity needs addressing. I cannot rate the home as Mum was admitted during lockdown, I have therefore not had admittance. At the beginning, there were teething problems. Communication between staff and relatives needs to be reviewed. I am not made aware of problems quickly enough and I could have rectified them.

My father had to go into Fairlawn for a short time for respite, to let my mum recover as she was his carer and had a few health problems. My dad, being 97, was very well looked after but had given up and had had enough - which I get!

Unfortunately after 3 weeks, he passed away but it was very peaceful and he was in no pain and I couldn’t have wished for a more painless end. We were able to spend precious ‘end of life’ time with him even in these ‘odd’ times and for that I am extremely grateful - so thank you to all at the nursing home - you did a fabulous job and I admire you all for the work you do.

My husband is so happy and content at Fairlawn Care Home at Ferndown, Dorset. Our three children(adult) agree with me that we can't fault Fairlawn - everything about it including the decor. The staff are absolutely amazing. They always acknowledge us and smiling, and nothing is too much trouble when we request something. There are times when things must be difficult for them. Congratulations on your achievements.

I find all the staff very friendly and extremely helpful. All rooms and joint facilities are kept very clean, also if there is anything you require they will do their very best to obtain it for you. The activities staff often visit if there is anything you would like to do eg quizzes, games, gardening to name but a few and they will try to include it in the programme if at all possible.

Fairlawn care home has provided exceptional care for my mum, who has Alzheimer's. They have been very efficient during the covid19 crisis in all areas. In order to allow the family some time with their loved one, they erected a gazebo in the garden where we can meet, socially distanced, but sheltered from the elements. As a family, we really appreciate this.

I have found nothing but compassion, love, care and dedication to my mother. I could not ask for a better place at this time for my mother to be. They truly are the second family in all they do when we, as a family, are not able to be with her. I thank them all so much for all they have done and know continue to do. The environment and care are second to none.

This care provider had no 'exceptional' policy in place for families being with their loved ones at end of life. Just allowed one day 'at an appropriate time' - how do you decide when this time is? They are not aligned with other care homes, do not reply to emails, have no flexibility to work with families for the good of each case/resident and have no logic in applying 'infection control'. They claim to be keeping residents COVID-free, but none of the staff are tested. They didn't have the common sense to think outside their very small box, to allow us access to our dying mother, who was bereaved of her husband in March and had no physical contact with her family since. She didn't get COVID, but passed away in sadness and with lack of family contact. This care provider showed no compassion for my mother at all, despite all reasonable requests and suggestions from us, to try and make this work so we could be with her. The CEO has said in writing that he has been 'transparent'.

Reply from Aaron Whitehead, Director of Care at Fairlawn

It is incredibly hard to hear of the distress that Care South’s end-of-life visiting policy have caused this family. The policy complies with Government guidance. The family have publicly disagreed with the visiting policy across many media channels, whilst at the same time also publicly...
