Fairlawn

Fairlawn care home has provided exceptional care for my mum, who has Alzheimer's. They have been very efficient during the covid19 crisis in all areas. In order to allow the family some time with their loved one, they erected a gazebo in the garden where we can meet, socially distanced, but sheltered from the elements. As a family, we really appreciate this.

I have found nothing but compassion, love, care and dedication to my mother. I could not ask for a better place at this time for my mother to be. They truly are the second family in all they do when we, as a family, are not able to be with her. I thank them all so much for all they have done and know continue to do. The environment and care are second to none.

This care provider had no 'exceptional' policy in place for families being with their loved ones at end of life. Just allowed one day 'at an appropriate time' - how do you decide when this time is? They are not aligned with other care homes, do not reply to emails, have no flexibility to work with families for the good of each case/resident and have no logic in applying 'infection control'. They claim to be keeping residents COVID-free, but none of the staff are tested. They didn't have the common sense to think outside their very small box, to allow us access to our dying mother, who was bereaved of her husband in March and had no physical contact with her family since. She didn't get COVID, but passed away in sadness and with lack of family contact. This care provider showed no compassion for my mother at all, despite all reasonable requests and suggestions from us, to try and make this work so we could be with her. The CEO has said in writing that he has been 'transparent'.

When we encountered a problem recently, I was extremely impressed with the manner in which the management went the extra mile to solve it.

But I do think a member of the staff should be in the rest room all the time the residents are there. There are long times when staff are not there. My wife has no complaints, if she is happy I'm happy.

Staff are very helpful and address any problems with tact and understanding. They are always cheerful and helpful. My wife is happy and I am also. Activities are only for third floor on Wednesday morning and this is not enough.

The accommodation, which includes some of her own meaningful furniture, is simple and comfortable. Meals are simple, nutritious and familiar to Mom and perfectly appropriate.

My family and I are very happy and consider that my mother is well looked after. Fairlawn is a great improvement on a previous care home.

Fairlawn is a wonderful home from home. My husband is always treated with great kindness and respect. All the carers that I have met are really excellent at their jobs. The home is cleaned to a high standard and the food is very good. Myself and my two daughters are so grateful for the excellent service.

My daughter is a solicitor working in private client and recommends Care South, having seen this home, to her clients.

We have found the staff very friendly and helpful. The home is kept clean and tidy. The staff are also supportive of my mother who has struggled with my dad being in the home.

My brother has been in Fairlawn for 5 years and has always been well cared for, my wife and I feel he is being well looked after and cared for to a high standard. The staff are always friendly and helpful in caring for him. We would like to express our thanks for the effort of all the staff on the occasion of him receiving his "Legion of Honour" from the French government on Jan 9th 2016. They could not have been more helpful and enthusiastic. Well done to the manager and all staff.

My husband has Alzheimer's which affects his speech and ability to walk without help. He has always been a happy man no grumbles. I had been caring for him with help until I had to go into hospital. My husband has been in Fairlawn since April, he has settled in well and he likes being with other people. All the staff are very kind and helpful. I go to see him every other day if possible and sometimes help at mealtimes. The food is tasty and varied. There was an open day yesterday which we all enjoyed and I hope to go to Mudeford next time they visit. I have not put excellent for activities because my husband cannot answer questions.

I would just like to say a few words, when my friend first went to Fair Lawns, it wasn't good. The people there were quite good but it had a nasty smell, stained chairs which you did not want to sit on; there is no need. For this even if it is old it can be clean and stain free, but since the new manager has taken over, he has turned the home around. It is now a much brighter, beautiful home and very welcoming. It has helped the staff and residents alike, a good job well done.

My parents in law came into the home this year. The care they have received is 100%. The staff and manager always greet us when we visit and are so caring. The home is always spotless and their bedroom is always clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble and I am always informed of any problems regarding them. The meals are good and they enjoy the activities. So yes I would recommend Fairlawn at Ferndown.
