My mother moved to The Elms following a stroke and a diagnosis of dementia just before Christmas 2023 and they couldn't have been more welcoming. All the staff have made a real fuss of Mum and involved her in the group activities so she settled in really quickly. I know she is really happy at The Elms because she suggests friends and other members of the family should move in.

I would like to commend The Elms Residential Home (Yeovil) where my mother, who is 100 years of age, is living. She has been in their care for around eight months now and I have found all the care staff to be very supportive and the home to be extremely well run. I have no hesitation in recommending The Elms.

Found The Elms very friendly and caring. Small enough for each user to be treated as an individual whose needs are recognised in a supportive manner. Treated with dignity and patience. A very professional environment, lovely facilities and welcoming to visiting family and friends. My mum moved into The Elms in October 2021 until December 2023 and I couldn't have asked for better care for her. Beautiful, peaceful, rural setting with the gardens well-maintained.

My mum moved into The Elms, initially for a month of respite due to illness and once recovered she decided that she liked it so much that she decided to stay. She is still living there 9 months on and is happy, content and very well looked after. The staff are thoughtful and caring and really go the extra mile to support both the residents and their families. All of our family have been made to feel welcome whenever we visit. We are kept informed of things affecting Mum, and we feel additionally reassured seeing her, at nearly 94, doing so well. She says that she is able to do the things she wants to do and does not feel pressured or worried in any way. There are always activities for the residents during the day and the staff make every effort to keep them varied.

The Elms really is a gem.

My sister has been made most welcome in The Elms after transferring from another residential home which was over 90 miles away from me. I am now able to visit on a regular basis. On her arrival, it took some time to settle in due to her dementia but the staff have been so patient, kind, and caring, and they have found the best ways to help her with her needs. The Elms have activities for her to enjoy especially singing and dancing and I have seen her dancing away on their social media page. I can thoroughly recommend the home.

The Elms has been home for Dad for the last 6 months, as he was no longer able to live independently after a series of falls. The home is in a lovely location surrounded by countryside, with great outdoor spaces for residents to sit. The rooms are spacious, clean and light and there is room enough for Dad to have his own possessions around him. The manager listened to all our concerns and was very reassuring. The staff are caring, helpful and keep us updated, nothing is too much trouble.

Members of the family are always welcomed with a smile and we can rest easy, knowing that he is safe and well cared for. Thank you to everyone involved in his care.

My sister was at The Elms for six months during which time she was well looked after by the staff. She was happy there and made friends. The home is surrounded by fields and a wonderful view. She really enjoyed the food. All the staff always made myself and my wife welcome when we visit and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. The care home manager always kept us informed about her well-being. I would recommend this care home as excellent.

The Elms is an excellent care home, and I would highly recommend it. It is a lovely modern bungalow, very light and airy, with beautiful views across the countryside. My mum spent 18 months here. She was happy and well looked after. The manager and staff are all lovely, friendly and very approachable, and nothing is too much trouble. Mum's last days were spent here, and her care was impeccable. I have nothing bad to say about this lovely care home and would recommend it to anyone.

Moving mum into a care home was an incredibly difficult decision as she had always insisted on living independently. The care home manager listened to all our concerns and offered complete reassurance. To our amazement, Mum settled very quickly. She likes the food, says that the staff are all kind to her and no one 'bosses her around'! She also likes the companionship of the other residents. When we visit, we are always greeted with a smile, all our questions are answered and the atmosphere in The Elms is that of a genuine home, not an institution. It always makes me smile when I see Mum treating the Elms as her own home.

Thank you everyone for helping Mum, and us, with the transition.

My Dad moved into The Elms in May. The manager and her lovely staff made what could have been a difficult experience, a very smooth transition from hospital to the home. Dad settled in very quickly and clearly feels very at home there and he really enjoys the company of the other residents and staff. The staff were very quick to understand my Dad's character and are very attentive to all his needs. The Elms has a lovely homely feel with beautiful views out towards the open country. Dad also really enjoys the food, particularly the homemade cake! The Elms are very good at keeping me informed of any news regarding my Dad and I feel that I can visit at any time. They even welcome my dog!

I can't speak highly enough of The Elms and its wonderful staff. From day 1 (Sept 2021), the manager and the team have made Mum really welcome. Of course, it took time to transition from living at home, independently to settling into communal life. Mum has been looked after so well along the way. She's been helped and really well cared for, when needing medical intervention. As a family, we know she's in a warm, safe, friendly home, with incredibly caring, patient staff. She's eating a balanced diet. She's participating in the social activities, the regular residents' meetings and even singing again! Of course, care does cost and it's always an initial shock when having to research these things. Once that really tough decision is made, then obviously it's a matter of where? Without going into details of how we discovered The Elms, I'm very pleased we did. When researching, several people expressed to me how caring and friendly The Elms is. Over time, the cost is put into context, as I've tried to capture.

My grandad moved in, in June, and the staff have been brilliant in helping him to settle in. He seems to really love being at the Elms. Met some lovely people to keep him company, and says nothing but nice things about all the staff, and it’s wonderful to see him so happy and engaged with all the activities the Elms offer to their residents. I haven’t seen him this happy and carefree in a long time.

Everyone at The Elms is simply wonderful. Whenever I visit, I am met with smiles and am made to feel welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble. Even when covid first hit, they found ways to make life as interesting and normal as possible for everyone. All the residents seem very content here and when you look at the activities board, there is always something going on to keep the residents stimulated. Birthdays are never missed and residents are made to feel special. A special mention for the lovely manager and all her team - they go above and beyond what is required from the job description. A wonderful, uplifting care home. Thank you, everyone.

The Elms is an excellent residential care home in a small village, with beautiful views across the Somerset Countryside. The staff are very friendly, efficient and sensitive to the needs of both the residents in their care and visitors to the care home. Rigorous procedures are in place to ensure that residents do not come into contact with coronavirus. After becoming quite isolated and struggling to cope living on her own, Mum has flourished since moving into The Elms. The quality of personal care is excellent and she relishes dining with the other residents and reports that the quality of the food is good. She particularly enjoys participating in the wide range of activities provided. The home is clearly exceptionally well run and the manager is friendly and approachable. Her staff are attentive to the needs of the residents. We have particularly appreciated being able to talk to Mum over skype and seeing photos and videos of Mum's daily life on the Home's dedicated social media page.

As a family, we struggled with the decision to place my mother in a home. My mother has settled well at The Elms and we know we made the right choice. My mother was a resident for several years and was very content and settled well. Her care was excellent and the staff were always helpful and considerate. Her dementia was well managed and we always felt she was in good hands. She was warm, comfortable, well-fed and always clean as was the whole premises, which we felt was most important. Her passing was gentle and sensitively handled. Thank you all.

Louise Turner
Louise TurnerJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2020

I'm passionate about delivering high standards of care for the residents we look after. I've been in the care industry for 29 years, with my start as a care assistant and working my way up to become a registered manager.

Being a registered manager for a care home carries significant responsibility, as it involves overseeing the day-to-day operations to ensure the highest standards of care for residents. My role requires a balance of compassionate leadership, strong organisational skills, and a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks such as those set by CQC. I ensure that staff are well-trained, residents’ needs are met individually with dignity and respect, and that the care home operates safely and efficiently. Building trust with residents, families, and staff is essential, as is the ability to respond effectively to challenges and continuously improve service quality. My role is both demanding and rewarding, with a direct impact on the well-being and quality of life of vulnerable individuals.

We have a great team here at The Elms with an atmosphere of happiness. The laughter from staff and residents alike throughout the corridors and home is satisfying to hear. The Elms is really a home from home for the residents, and this is how we like it to be.

Anita Coles
Anita ColesJob Title:Senior Clinical LeadJoined: 2016

Hi, my name is Anita, and I have worked in the care sector for approximately 24 years, the last 10 of which have been here at The Elms. I am level 4 qualified, I am one of the Senior Clinical Leads, and I enjoy every minute of my job and still do!

Being a Clinical Lead here means wearing many hats — and that’s what makes it such a fulfilling role. At the heart of what I do is making sure our residents receive safe, high-quality, and compassionate care every single day. I’m not just in the office — I’m very much on the floor, working alongside our care staff, offering guidance, and stepping in wherever needed.

I spend a lot of time supporting the team — helping with training, answering questions, and making sure our care plans are truly person-centred. I carry out audits, medication checks, and help keep us compliant with all regulations, but I always keep my focus on the people — both residents and staff.

We are situated in a rural location with beautiful views that our residents all enjoy. We have a lovely working relationship with our residents and enjoy reminiscing about their past experiences and having a laugh. Here at The Elms, I'm proud to say we provide top-quality care and compassion for all of our residents, and we always ensure all their needs are met.

Kat Martin
Kat MartinJob Title:Senior Clinical LeadJoined: 2016

Hi, I'm Kat, and I love working at the Elms. I've been here for over 10 years, and it gets better all the time. As a clinical lead, no two days are ever the same. My day starts with a handover, and I check in on any changes with our residents, review clinical notes, and make sure we’re fully up to date on everyone’s care needs. Medication rounds, supporting and mentoring care staff and regular supervisions are part of my role. I ensure our clinical practices are safe, up to date and in line with CQC standards.

I work closely with GPs, district nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Communication is key to making sure our residents get joined-up, holistic care. I meet regularly with families, too, helping them feel informed and reassured about their loved one’s care. When the Registered Manager is away, I step in to support the running of the home.

What keeps me going is knowing that I’m making a real difference — not just to the residents, but to the staff as well. It’s a role that’s challenging, rewarding, and genuinely meaningful.

Karen Kay
Karen KayJob Title:DirectorJoined: 2016

As the proud owner of an excellent care home, there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing we’re making a real difference in people’s lives every day. Creating a warm, safe, and respectful environment where residents feel valued and genuinely cared for is at the heart of everything we do. I take immense pride in the dedication of our team, whose compassion, professionalism, and commitment to quality care are what make our home so special. Seeing residents thrive, families feel at ease, and staff grow in confidence and skill makes it all worthwhile. This isn’t just a business — it’s a community, and I’m proud to be part of it.

The team at the Elms is what makes it a success. I am grateful and proud of the incredible senior management team and all of our outstanding carers. These are the people who make the difference day to day.
