My father,102, has lived at Highfield House for three years now. He is very happy there and loved and well looked after by all the staff.
I have peace of mind in knowing he is content and that I would always be contacted if there was a need.

I would completely recommend if you are looking for a care home.

When my mother first moved here about a year ago, she was quite unsettled for the first few weeks as we expected she would be. She had just suffered the loss of her husband of 66 years and then Covid and the lockdowns increased her general isolation despite family care. Eventually, as her needs grew to be unmanageable for us, she decided to try respite at Highfield House as she and my dad had known of it for years. However, after 2 weeks of respite which became 3, then 4 (as she warmed to her new situation), she decided to stay permanently. The friendly staff at all levels had made her feel more than welcome, attended her every need and request, and did their utmost to help her on a daily basis to manage and care for her physical and mental well-being. She felt completely safe and respected. For the family, communication from and with the manager and staff has been exemplary at all times, allowing us to relax knowing she could not be in better hands. She is happy and so are we.

Our Mother has been at Highfield House Residential Care Home Ltd for several years now and has been extremely happy with everything since she first moved in there. The management and staff are wonderful, so caring and thoughtful and go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy and settled. We are kept well informed of any health issues or concerns and we are 100-percent confident with the manager and staff. Our Mother has a lovely room and is very well cared for, she rarely has any issues or worries. It gives the family great peace of mind that she is so well cared for and in a very safe and lovely environment. We are so lucky to have found such a perfect place knowing our Mother is so settled and content there. They have an excellent and varied entertainment programme and the residents are all treated with respect and kindness.

The overall service is good, but there is certainly some improvement required, for example, concerning the food. This, and other matters to be addressed, has been raised most recently at the annual review.

My mum has lived at Highfield House for nearly five years. We couldn’t have found a better home for her. All the staff are loving and caring. I haven’t been able to visit for many months so have not been able to check what she needs. Highfield staff have been proactive in noticing her needs and letting us know, for example when she needed new slippers. I feel very confident that she is being cared for with kindness and sensitivity. We are very grateful to all the staff for going above and beyond to make life comfortable and happy for all the residents.

My mother has been at Highfield for over 4 years now. During that time, she has consistently received excellent care, even with the inevitable staff changes and of course the Covid crisis. My family and I never cease to be impressed, and amazed, by the patience, sympathy and attentiveness of the care staff. The management of the home is also excellent: efficient, supportive, caring. The building and my mother's room are comfortable and homely, so it doesn't feel at all like an institution. What we have found the most impressive and heartwarming has been that the high standards of care have not changed at all during Covid. The management has been scrupulous about prevention, hygiene, monitoring and vaccination. This has been an incredibly hard time for residents, their relatives who have not been able to see them as often, and for the staff. Yet the staff have managed to stay cheerful, patient and accommodating in all circumstances. Heartfelt thanks.

Highfield House provides a comfortable environment into which my father has settled well. The staff are caring and courteous and have worked tirelessly through the ordeal of the Covid crisis to provide a safe refuge for the residents.
I have been happy in the knowledge that my father has been well looked after during this time and have been pleased to be able to see him on a regular basis and chat even though we have had to do this through a plastic screen in the conservatory.

Highfield normally have a program of events and entertainments for residents and occasional trips and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to enjoying these simple pleasures in the near future!

Highfield have been nothing short of fantastic for my Mum, they have looked after her complex needs without hesitation. During one evening alone she pushed her buzzer 14 times and on each occasion, they came straight away to resolve her issues. The staff are friendly caring and approachable with a genuine regard for the welfare of the residents. The manager has a very empathetic nature and this lends itself to a well run organisation where nothing is too much trouble. I can't recommend them highly enough.

During this last traumatic year, Highfield has provided our mother with a safe and caring home where all her needs have been met. Highfield has shown compassion towards its residents, staff and family members. They have worked so hard to maintain family contact, so important for all of our mental welfare. Highfield has always put their resident's health first, and during this lockdown, followed the guidelines religiously, resulting in keeping our families safe while keeping us in touch with our loved ones. Although outside entertainers were not permitted to come into the home, the staff worked very hard on filling that gap and provided activities every day. Our mother has dementia, and although she had to endure many tests and altered situations, she never appeared unsettled and continued to recognise us throughout this time. This shows us that Mum was given the support and reassurance she needs to live with dignity and joy. We, as a family, appreciate everything Highfield does for us all.

My aunt has been in the home for a number of years, and we are extremely happy with the care she receives. We were somewhat alarmed to hear of all the care home deaths in the last 12 months, related to the Covid pandemic, but Highfield House has managed the situation magnificently. Although we live too far away to have visited in the last year, we have felt that our aunt is happy and safe.

We arrived at Highfield House after an extensive programme of visits, and are extremely satisfied. My mother is happy, feels secure, has confidence in all staff members, and is in better general health than she has been for three years. This is due to the quality of the care she receives: not only in the sense of physical wellbeing but also in morale aspects.

I visit at least once per week and always notice that all staff members have time to talk in a proper personal and meaningful way to my mother - and of course, she responds to that, and it is important and meaningful to her. I know from experience (in a different sector) that this does not just happen by fortuitous chance: it happens because staff of high calibre are recruited, trained, valued, retained and supported by the manager. And those staff respond and perform in accordance with high standards. My mother's entire broader family is extremely grateful to them all.

Deciding to commit a loved one to any care home is a searing, conflicted decision. However necessary and wise it may be there is always anxiety about the care they will receive. My husband has been at Highfield for two months and what has replaced home has been unfailing kindness. From each and every member of the staff. Kindness is flexible about his preferences, and solicitous about his extreme mobility problems, sharing a joke and conveying that care is a collaborative process.
Since being admitted he has been critically ill and had a period of extreme pain from a fall. Highfield has worked on every detail of his care with the District Nurses.
The care of his personal hygiene, the cleanliness of his clothes has been exemplary.

The staff know not to pressurise and know when to leave him alone to encourage his independence in the small ways still possible to him. In showing him respect Highfield has relieved my mind and my gratitude to the staff is immense.

My wife and I have always appreciated the excellent care that the staff at Highfield House has given our 92-year-old father, since his arrival in January 2019. The staff always welcome us on any visits and provide excellent management and leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 period since 23 March 2020. We trust the staff implicitly and if there were to be a problem, we are sure it would be dealt with immediately. It's a friendly team at Highfield House, which helps our father and the rest of the family know that his remaining years are in excellent caring hands. Nothing is too difficult if we ask for anything, and the regular communication we receive via email keeps us up to date with the goings-on in the care home. We couldn't have found a better care home and we would like to thank the manager and her excellent team for making Highfield House feel like home for our father, in the last few years of his life. We would always recommend Highfield House to anyone in need.

Highfield has been extremely professional before and during the covid pandemic, always keeping us up to date on personal and site issues.
We have always felt that they were in control of highly trained and professional staff.
There is very much a personal touch which is also very reassuring in these unprecedented times.

Living so far away has not been an issue as we feel comfortable with all decisions the manager and the team make.

I cannot speak too highly regarding the care my mother is receiving at Highfield House Residential Home. The team has created a safe, happy home, and the quality of care is exemplary. It was successfully maintained throughout the pressures of lockdown, and the manager was extremely proactive to achieve this from the start of the pandemic. The family was consulted at every stage, and we were able to feel completely confident that every aspect of the residents' physical and mental health was being addressed. I would like to thank all the Highfield staff for their dedication and for always going the extra mile to improve the lives of those in their care.

My mum is quite elderly, and the current Covid19 situation has been difficult for her to absorb. However, because of the thoughtfulness of those caring for her, she is coping with the changes, eg. mask-wearing and social distancing, and appears secure in her environment. Equally, I feel confident that she continues to receive the best care in these very challenging times and that the systems in place are as safe as they can be and the atmosphere in the home is still as happy as it has always been.

Mum has been at Highfield for over two years and has always received excellent care. The staff always go the extra mile and have just recently identified that Mum was struggling with being in an upstairs room, and is now happily settled downstairs - all carried out by the exceptionally hard-working and caring staff.

The staff at Highfield are wonderfully caring, helping my mother to settle in quickly when she arrived a few months ago and being particularly attentive during her recent bout of sickness. It is a real comfort to know that she is safe, happy and being well looked after. Staff go out of their way to engage and chat to residents, and to give encouragement when it is needed. Communication with family has been excellent and is something my brother and I particularly appreciate as we both live some distance away.

I have been very pleased with the level of care that my mother has received.
Staff are always very kind and attentive and it is lovely to see that they are not always rushing around but actually have time to sit and chat with the residents.
Highfield was recommended to us by a friend whose parents were both there for several years.
Various other people also had only good things to say.
It is very comforting to know that Mum is safe, comfortable and well looked after.

Communication is very good and we are regularly updated with any developments.

Rachel MundyJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2012

From a young age, I knew that my career would be caring for others, and I have worked in social care for 37 years, as I am passionate about ensuring that people receive the care and support they need and want in their everyday lives, as well as serving the community generally.

I studied for 3 years alongside working with the Open University, gaining the Diploma in Health and Social Welfar,e then attended Strode College, gaining an Advanced Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling. My second Diploma, in Leadership for Health and Social Care, was achieved in 2013 whilst working at Highfield House.

I am very lucky to have been approached to work at Highfield House initially as a Care Manager, and then in 2017, I became the Registered Manager for the home. Highfield House is a fantastic place to work with an amazing team of experienced staff, many of whom have been here many years, and I could not be prouder of the excellent care that is continuously provided to every resident.

Providing good quality End-Of-Life Care for people and their loved ones is a particular passion of mine, and I am thrilled to have been recently enrolled on the Somerset Spiritual Care End-of-Life Strategy Group. This will involve working closely with other professionals who are passionate about improving and normalising this area of end-of-life care across the country, to ensure that every aspect of the person's needs and wishes are cared for.

I feel very strongly and believe there is no better feeling than making a difference in a resident's life.

I am extremely honoured to have worked at Highfield House since 2010.

I started working as a care assistant and have worked my way up to Deputy Manager through various roles within the home.

I have gained many qualifications during my career, including Level 3 Business Management and in 2021, I completed Level 5 Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care in Children and Adults Care. Alongside my role, I am also a dedicated wellbeing champion responsible for promoting physical, emotional, and social wellbeing for all of our Residents through meaningful engagement and personalised support.
