My mother was in Moorhaven for nearly a year, she was very happy there and loved the staff. Just before she died, she'd said it was the happiest she had been for many years of which I am truly thankful. When she died, the staff were truly wonderful and couldn't do enough for us and my family and we
are truly grateful. A wonderful home and staff of which I will truly recommend.

Generally very happy with her care and friendly staff. We were very disappointed to find her on her bed with no bedding. The bed had been stripped and she was led on the mattress in just her nighty, this was the day before she died. A carer came in and put a cover over her. Also, a gold necklace with
both my mum's and dad's wedding rings on it has gone missing, have spoken to various staff members but it has not been found. A very disappointing end to her care. Have reported the loss to the police.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at MoorhavenDear Maurice, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Moorhaven. Please allow us to extend our heartfelt condolences for your loss. It was a privilege to care for your mother, and she is much missed by the team and her fellow residents. We have cooperated fully with the search for the missing jewellery, and, whilst we are confident that this was not misplaced at Moorhaven, we sincerely hope that you will soon be reunited with these items as we understand just how much they mean to you as a family. In the meantime, if there is anything which you would like to discuss with us about your mother's care, our door is always open.
Best regards,
Somerset Care

Visited partner's father. We sat at the dining room table. Next to this table a resident was obviously late for lunch as others had finished their lunch. He sat down and was brought his food by a carer. Four members of staff were sat on the table behind him and were tucking into their lunch, fair enough
but this poor gentleman wasn't brought any cutlery to eat with and proceeded to eat his lunch with his fingers! I am a carer myself and was appalled by what I saw. Anyone would assume you take someone a plate of food, you give them cutlery! I got up and got him some cutlery whilst staff were oblivious eating their lunch. I'm now wondering are the resident's basic care needs being met?
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at MoorhavenDear Deborah,
Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the experience you describe, as this is not what we would wish for our visitors or those we care for. Whilst some of our residents may still choose to eat particular foods with their fingers, our policy is always to offer them cutlery.
We have raised this oversight with our team, and will further highlight this as part of our mealtime experience training. We would also welcome the opportunity to discuss your feedback with you directly, should you wish to do so.
Best regards

My husband stayed at Moorhaven for 14 days respite. He settled in very quickly and enjoyed his stay. The staff were kind and nothing was too much trouble. His needs were met and he was cared for with kindness. He loved the food and the atmosphere at Moorhaven is very homely. The room was very clean,
as for the rest of the house - I would highly recommend it.

My mum spent the last six months of her 99 years in Moorhaven Care Home. The lovely staff gave her comfort and security and as a family, we'll never forget them. The care and support they have continued to give us has been exceptional. The whole team are dedicated and professional. We will be eternally
grateful.

The staff at Moorhaven have made my grandmother happy, settled and at peace. They update me regularly as to her health and recently suggested a change of room for her as her needs have adapted. I couldn't ask for more for her and I know she is happy with them as she often jokes and laughs. I am very
grateful for their care.

When I visit my mum (weekly) the staff and management are always happy and welcoming. All staff are very caring and show empathy. Mum is very happy in Moorhaven. It is like a home from home, Mum has company and is cared for giving me peace of mind that she is safe and happy. Mum loves all the activities,
especially bingo. I am always recommending friends Moorhaven.

It was a review with Mum, social worker and manager of Moorhaven as to whether it was suiting Mum. She is very happy there and so am I. The staff are very good and inform me immediately if anything is wrong. I did look at a few homes and this was the nicest and very homely just like their own home and
nothing is too much trouble.

My sister seems very happy in the home. She enjoys her food. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The problems are items of clothing that are missing and she does not wear her hearing aids. I don't know why but her feet have been bare during my last two visits.
I don't think that she takes part in
activities.

The atmosphere is always warm and friendly.
The environment is usually clean and tidy though sometimes a little "smelly".
The staff are kind though some extra manual handling training with some staff would be beneficial.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at MoorhavenThank you for sharing your feedback for Moorhaven, and for your kind comments about our homely and welcoming environment. We pride ourselves on running a clean and tidy home, so would ask that you please report anything amiss to our housekeeper so that it can be rectified immediately. Manual handling is something we take very seriously - all care staff have been trained in safe practices, and undertake regular refresher training with a qualified manual handling instructor. We welcome all feedback as it enables us to continually improve the service we offer, so invite you to please speak with a member of the team should you have any feedback or suggestions.

It has been difficult for my parents to settle into a care home environment but the staff at Moorhaven have been great in encouraging both mum and dad to participate in some of the activities with the other residents and in getting them out of their room. The staff are friendly, caring and approachable.
Both my husband and I feel comfortable and more relaxed leaving them. It has been lovely to see both parents smiling.

Well, what can I say - these people at Moorhaven are amazing. My mum has been here for eight weeks. They are the most efficient, caring, polite, wonderful and kind people you could wish to meet. My mum has always looked clean and well looked after. Attending to all her needs, they are very careful with
the elderly people. What else can I say, amazing place.

Pleased with the care I receive. I would like to say that the only thing we could do with is more hot drinks. It is a long time between lunch and tea.

I could not have asked for a nicer, more welcoming nursing home in which to leave my partner in for care as Moorhaven.
I felt very sad to have had to do it and each visit for me was a strain. The staff were so kind and understanding toward me and to my partner, so patient with him and within 2 weeks
he settled down and is happy.

I am pleased with the friendliness of the staff. My Grandmother is very fond of each and every member of staff at Moorhaven, so thank you for making her feel welcome.
A few points to make regarding my grandmother:
Occasionally (not too often) she is left without someone supporting her with putting
in her hearing aids and is always reluctant to ask for support as she feels she is being a pain.
Please encourage as much as possible for her to drink water - she needs as much fluid as possible.
Some recommendations regarding the home itself:
More entertainment and variety. Singing, modernised games, perhaps something just a little more entertaining - often modernised games, etc create a new interest for the residents. Simply, I played a game of heads-up with my Grandmother and she loved it! A difficult one for all, but some of them would be able to access these games and entertainment.
The Garden needs a good clean-up!
You’re doing great, young staff particularly are great.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at MoorhavenThank you for taking the time to leave a review for Moorhaven. We will pass your kind feedback to our team members who are all so fond of your grandmother and delight in caring for her. Thanks also for sharing your suggestions with us, as we are always keen to continue to improve our service. We can confirm that specific updates have been added to your grandmother's care plan regarding her hearing aid, and that fresh water is available at all times for all residents, who are encouraged to stay hydrated, particularly in this hot weather. We have a new gardener joining the team this month, and have exciting plans for sprucing up the garden for all to enjoy. We love seeing your grandmother join in with the activities we offer, and always welcome suggestions for additional activities to add to our programme to suit our residents' hobbies and interests. Please do speak to one of the team with any suggestions for activities you feel she may enjoy. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Lovely home, my father was admitted for a month, he was well cared for and everyone was always lovely to him and us when we visited. They were clearly well looked after and always had something on for them to do.
Being Taunton based we thought it a perfect option.
If my father returned or stayed
there for longer, we would definitely consider it again.
Thank you to the team.

Mum moved to Moorhaven in June 2021 as she became very frail and needed 24 hours care. Her room was satisfactory and had an ensuite toilet which she loved. The food was excellent and Mum got back her appetite. The activities team were inspiring. Mum died in December peacefully in her chair. Thank you

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.567)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.567) out of 10 for Moorhaven is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.567 for Moorhaven is calculated as follows: ( (149 Excellents x 5) + (87 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.567
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorhaven is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
