We needed some respite care for my step mum at very short notice. After the relevant covid checks were completed, she was soon settled and incredibly well looked after. The Old Vicarage cared for her in a home-from-home setting (with passionate staff, home cooking and stunning gardens) in a professional, personal way. We could not fault the service given and it would be our first choice if we need any care for our parents again. I would highly recommend the Old Vicarage, it’s a hidden gem, tucked quietly out of the way, just 5 minutes from Cannington close to Bridgwater.
Dad spent the last 10 months of his life here, in comfort, in wonderful care, and surrounded by a team of staff who became his greatest friends. He chose not to avail himself of the lounge and activities, (and the activity leader consequently came to him, so that he didn't miss out, which he enjoyed) so his whole world revolved around 'his girls'. The expression "above and beyond" fits perfectly with how I feel the staff cared for him, physically and emotionally. He truly bonded with them, and some of the nicknames I heard him use spoke volumes about their relationship. Senior management were accessible, patient and incredibly helpful to the family in Dad's last days, and all the staff were warm and welcoming to phone enquiries about his daily wellbeing. Please note: when my time comes, don't take me anywhere else!
I have just spent two weeks here, while my children, with whom I live with, have been away on holiday. The nursing home is in a lovely part of Somerset and has the most beautiful views and a very large garden with easy parts to walk around. Although I will be glad to go home, I would also be pleased to come back in if I had to.
Despite having several health issues which meant she was increasingly dependent on her wheelchair and help from the staff; ways were always found to help her do as much as she could and wanted to. The patience of all the staff knew no bounds and it was obvious that the well-being of the residents is paramount. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for a safe and caring home for a family member.
My husband spent 5-nights at The Old Vicarage and his care was amazing. The staff were so caring with him, all his needs and more. The home has a lovely welcoming feeling, and the gardens are also lovely. I would highly recommend it. My husband will be going in again at the beginning of May 2022.
Set in a lovely garden. The staff are very helpful and very friendly.
Excellent.
All the carers are very helpful and caring, and we have a choice of food we like.
From a health direction, standards have been exceptional in achieving and succeeding in keeping residents safe from Covid.
We were able to visit before lockdown either outside in the beautiful grounds or in a room adapted by the home whereby we could chat and enjoy seeing residents from a safe distance. When in lockdown, we are able to do window visiting - both visiting arrangements being simple to organise by a phone call. This has meant so much to both residents and their families.
Residents are encouraged to participate in activities - from physical exercise, crafts of every description to crosswords - ensuring residents are kept occupied and happy both physically and mentally.
We, as a family, hear of all this and other important bits of information by receiving a weekly newsletter - the home recognising communication is vital to all concerned.
My mother spent 22-months at The Old Vicarage, she was lucky to have a bungalow room adjacent to the main building, and would highly recommend this to potential clients. During her stay, she received loving, personal, professional care from all the exceptional staff, nothing was too much trouble. The home has lovely well-maintained gardens, and visitors always made welcome with offers of tea, coffee and delicious homemade cakes. The advantage of the bungalow allowed us to move some of Mum's furniture in, and so it felt like visiting in her own home. If you are unfortunate to be self-financing, then costs are always too high and a negative, so my rating of value for money as excellent is against quotes we received for other homes we visited when deciding on a care home, their fees were much higher, for a perceived less attractive package.
The Old Vicarage have had NO reported Covid cases to date, largely due to the level of care and thought put into their management of cross-contamination. They have recently created a visiting space that allows for family visiting, but the residents are sat in an armchair behind glass room dividers. This is not ideal obviously but does allow us to visit regularly.
After having a very bad fall and not being able to cope on her own. The care home we chose for my mum has gone above and beyond our expectations. My mother is so happy there, she has made new friends and loves all the activities they do each day. The careers are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble even with this pandemic they have still kept all the residents' spirits up by still being able to have their hair done and nails painted. We have also received weekly newsletters to keep us all updated on our loved ones. The gardens are lovely for the residents to enjoy with lots of colourful plants and ample of seating area. To summarise this review we feel my mother is in a very safe and caring residential care home.
Mum needed to go into a home as she had a fall and after a hospital stay found that she could no longer manage. The manager and all her staff were and are wonderful, doing everything to make mum feel at home, from first-class care, organizing activities to do every day. Best of all mum loves it there.
Welcoming and comfy home, with very friendly staff. Lovely location and very nice grounds. My mother has settled in well and thinks of this as her home. No problems in the 2 years she has been a resident.
What a lovely place. The staff are very friendly and have made Dad feel at home.
We can't praise the staff highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble. Their attention to specific needs was exemplary. In every respect, they go the extra mile.
One particular member of staff (policy does not allow me to name her) deserves 5* for her meticulous attention to wound dressing. Over a period of many years, the highest has been 3* - we hope she recognises herself!
His room was warm and comfortable. Staff were prompt when he rang the bell for assistance. His privacy and dignity were respected on all occasions.
Distinct from other places - no offensive smells!
He will be very happy to return for respite again and we're told they will be happy to have him.
We are delighted to recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone who is considering a care home for themselves or a relative.
My mother is a resident in the care home. She is treated very well, all the staff are excellent, food is very good and a lovely room.
I was made very comfortable and very happy when I was in the home. All the residents and the staff were very friendly, it was like being 'home from home'. I would have no hesitation going in there again if I had to.
The staff managed my complex medication extremely well, particularly changing fentanyl patches regularly.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
I came here because my mother-in-law had her last few months here.
The beds are fantastic (hospital bed if you need one like I did). The gardens are unbelievable nice and they are flat. All in all The Old Vicarage is a home from home and I would have no hesitation in moving there permanently if the time ever comes.
