Overall Experience

Godiva Lodge is warm, welcoming and bright to enter. The staff are caring and treat residents with kindness and understanding. As a partner of a resident, it did not take long for me to realise he was in a very good place. All his needs are seen to by very caring staff. I feel lucky that, what can be a traumatic experience, has turned out to be very reaffirming event.

My mum has been here for one year and this time last year was extremely stressful
I now have full confidence that my mum is well looked after.

Although her Dementia is slowly getting worse, her walking has improved a great deal. I am very pleased that despite what my mum may say to staff, they still give her respect and meet her needs.

The number and frequency of activities have improved over the last year (the resident has been here for over three years).
Communication with family could be improved. For example, receiving a phone call from the hospital to say parent was ok and ready for collection which was the first I knew of the fall?
The frequent changes of staff are confusing for us let alone the residents and causes inconsistencies.

The building is kept clean and tidy. The menu is varied and looks/smells tempting. Personally I object to the term 'customer' being used to describe residents it's very impersonal.

My husband has been in care for 13 months in that time he has excellent care by all the staff, carers and everyone that works in Godiva Lodge. They always show care and support for my husband's needs.
They are always friendly towards me on visits and available to discuss his care.

I often have meals with my husband it's lovely to have a time of normality together at this stressful time. They are always supportive of my husband's needs.

All the staff go out of their way to be helpful and always have cheerful smile for residents, their family and friends.
The kitchen staff are always willing to meet any dietary needs and will explain any concerns that we may have regarding these.
My husband really enjoys the Friday music sessions as do all the other residents by the look on their faces.

Would appreciate a weekly church service but know it is difficult to find people with the time to do this.

January 2019 I raised a number of concerns with Godiva Lodge. This was acknowledged in February and treated as a complaint by Anchor with a full response promised within 10 days. None has been received as at 17 July. Care has improved but is basic. She is fed, kept clean and safe. However, fundamentals i.e. spectacles/hearing aids are rarely fitted when I visit. Three pairs of named spectacles and hearing aids went missing within 4 weeks of living there as well as other articles. There appears to be no lost property box. There is always a smell in her room. The sitting room is often unstaffed when I arrive or if staffed, they are fully immersed writing notes in a care plan rather than usefully interacting with the residents, though in the last few weeks there appears to be more organised activities. Woollen garments are stretched out of proportion in the laundry. I find the office/admin staff unapproachable when trying to find information. There is no liaison between staff and next of kin and I am not made aware of Mum's health or when a doctor has been called out to her. Entering and leaving the premises is unsatisfactory.

Outstanding care consistently over the 6 years my aunt has been there. Genuine kindness and thoughtfulness from the staff. They have always been sensitive to my aunt's likes and dislikes, and have made her so happy. She genuinely thinks of the staff as her family. I'm so grateful that she is in this care home. As a retired staff nurse, I have seen a huge range of care homes, but never anywhere as good as this.

All staff are highly trained to deal with varying forms of dementia. All staff are kind, compassionate, professional and understanding of our needs. When issues arise, the Deputy manages, has always dealt and helped resolved problems.

My mum is in a safe, clean, caring environment. We feel the pressure has been lifted off our shoulders. The kindness and care will never be forgotten. Where we were unable to cope, you have all taken over and helped. There are no words to express how grateful we are. Thank you dearly.

My mum has been at Godiva Lodge for some time now. I could not be happier with her care.
I go to sleep at night content knowing my mum is in safe hands.
I know all the staff by their first names and when you don't see them for a while you hope they haven't left.
We are like one happy family if my mums not feeling it one day I'll sit with somebody else's mum or dad and keep them company.

Thank you.
