My grandfather has been in the home for 18 months and he has been cared for to a reasonable standard.
The accommodation provided is adequate and meets his needs. Meals are freshly cooked and the menu is varied.
It is possible to join your relative for food if you wish to - which I find is a nice touch.

My grandfather has more company than when he lived at home. However, maybe not as many residents at the same stage of dementia - therefore speaks to staff.

This was the first time I have had to deal with a care home for my mum and was obviously unsure of how it would turn out. After meeting the manager and discussing my mums needs my mind was quickly put at rest. I was emailed a few pictures of my mum on her first day, taking part in activities and also had a thorough chat with the deputy who told me my mum was settling in nicely. After mums stay was over it was obvious she had been looked after extremely well as she had nothing but praise to say about all the hard-working, caring staff. I am very grateful to all the staff who looked after my mum so very well and am now hoping to set up recurring respite visits as this experience was such a success. If, like me, you are finding looking for a suitable home quite daunting, just pay Victoria Mews in Coventry a visit and you will know from the moment you enter that the home is a quality care home with the excellently trained and experienced staff.

My mother has been a resident for seven months and has dementia. On my visits, I have been thoroughly impressed with the standard of care and friendliness displayed by the hardworking carers - they treat the residents as 'one of the family'. They are patient, hands-on and warm - activities are a regular distraction for the residents with plenty of 'fundraising' events.

Looking after residents with varying degrees of dementia is not an easy task. All the residents are known by first names by caring staff who are very prepared to talk, hug, reassure or comfort the elderly occupants. Individual bedrooms have a toilet and wash basin ensuite. They are encouraged to socialise in either of the lounges or dining room but if a resident prefers to stay in their room or even in bed, then their wishes are complied with. Rooms, bedding and clothing are cleaned daily.
There are regular activities or entertainments throughout the week even though many residents don't really engage with a lot of it.

The new care home manager has introduced changes to try and make the environment more homely such as cake stands for morning or afternoon tea, a feature wallpaper and small tablecloths on the little tables in the lounges. I know in my mother's case, if she had all her mental facilities these are subtleties she would approve of.

Overall Experience

We had to place my Dad into care in August 2017 and I spent a lot of time going and looking at many different care homes. I knew the moment I stepped into Victoria Mews that this was the place for my Dad The rooms are tastefully decorated, clean and safe. The staff are wonderful and extremely caring with all the residents. Each and every resident are treated with dignity. This is something I see each time I visit. The Manager is great and hands on. There is nothing he won't turn his hand to. The Home Administrator is the same. My Mom and I couldn't be happier which is very important as this was one of the hardest decisions we ever had to make. Highly recommended (oh and the food is good too).
