Excellent care and understanding of my dad's needs. Always made welcome, I feel staff are my second family.
Although I visit every other day, I'm still informed if Dad is not well and what the doctor has said should he/she have to be called out.
I still have concerns on the level of staffing on the
dementia suite. In my opinion, two staff is just not enough to safely care for these most vulnerable and sometimes challenging residents.

My auntie was admitted to Ashbourne Care Home through social services due to unforeseeable tragic circumstances. It was an emergency placement. I had not had time to do preliminary checks with regards to the home so we were reliant on the good choice of the social worker.
I and my auntie could not
have wished for anywhere better. the support that my auntie, my wife and I received was priceless. At this most traumatic time in our lives, there were people who readily supported us. The manager was caring and professional which filtered down to all staff members. it was evident that staff were well trained in their various roles and all demonstrated a very caring attitude. Nothing was too much trouble, staff were patient, friendly and had the time to perform their caring skills. I had total confidence in the care delivered to my auntie.
Within a week, my auntie looked better than she had done in years. The environment was clean and fresh, something that was noticeable as soon as you walked through the door. The temperature throughout was warm and constant. Excellent place to be cared for.

Mom and Dad needed respite care over the New Year period for a couple of weeks. The staff were excellent, from the initial assessment to the welcome and ongoing for the next week or so, till my parents left. Dads needs were far more complex than moms, with his dementia causing behaviour issues. The
staff handled it with care and attention to detail with meds, etc. My mom was very welcomed by everyone and really enjoyed her time there. Unfortunately, my dad became very ill and left after a week to go into hospital, but mom stayed there for another few days and was made most welcome. The food was good and plentiful. The rooms pleasant, but mostly it was the staff and their lovely attitude.

The care home is warm and welcoming, you are always greeted with a smile and in a while offered a refreshment. The place is always clean and tidy, the management have an open door policy where you can easily discuss any issues. It would seem it suffers from staff shortages but this doesn't affect the
care level. My mother in law is very happy there, is well cared for and treated very well. This is a very nice place and the staff do their best. All the family think she is in safe hands.

I am very happy with the care provided for my grandmother at Ashbourne House. I do feel that the level of care could be categorised as "excellent" if only the staffing levels were increased. This is particularly evident on the dementia wing, where residents require extra care and attention, due to their
condition. My grandmother chooses to stay in her room and is confined to bed much of the time. She is largely alone and lacking in individual attention and stimulation. This is not because the staff do not wish to provide this, but because they are limited by restrictions of workload. I think this also applies to certain areas of cleaning and laundry too.
The staff and management are all wonderful. They are approachable and respectful in every area of my grandmother's care and I would not hesitate to recommend this home.

Staff are always happy and very considerate and caring to patients. I feel they should make sure patients have regular hearing tests and hearing aids checked regularly. Also that patients nails are cleaned daily. Patients are always fed well and given snacks and drinks. My friend has not had her hearing
aids for at least 4 months. This stops her communication, when I questioned staff I was told I was not the next of kin. Which I am not but visit weekly.

My mother has been looked after very well during the last four and a half years, she has been here and the Alzheimer's condition has not deteriorated but has largely remained the same during that time. This is due to the level of interest, care and support given by the whole team at this care home.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.076)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.076) out of 10 for Ashbourne Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.176 for Ashbourne Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (20 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.176
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbourne Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
