My dad came to Ashbourne on emergency Respite. From his first assessment with manager to this month, my dad has recieved first class care, everyone is caring compassionate, makes sure all his needs are met, they go above and beyond and it is a pleasure to visit this home and everyone working there. He is now a permanent resident and seems happy, settled. I know I can relax a little knowing my dad is in safe hands both medically & physically.

Manager weak, some staff care, some don't. Rooms old and dated, toilets disgusting. Not enough staff to safely look after residnets. Found my father on occasions with no bedding and covered in wee and poo. Kitchen open on floor and residents able to get hold of cutlery and half-eaten food. Residents just put into lounge, nothing done to entertain them, unless they are on the ground floor. Resident choked to death recently, which I witnessed, and quite frankly it shouldn't have happened. Some nurses have no idea what residents should be taking and often lapse giving medication.

The care home was very welcoming and friendly, and all of the staff showed compassion and patience towards all of the residents. The environment was light, airy and fresh. What impressed me most, no matter what time we visited, the members of staff knew exactly where she was and who she was. All staff across the board were extremely supportive and helpful. Mum said she felt like the "queen". All her needs were met, and it was very reassuring to know she was in such good hands. Looking forward to more respite in the future! Thank you to all :)

Mum moved into Willow Bank in May 2026, and she was immediately made to feel at home. The care she receives is exemplary. The staff show so much dedication are always smiling and treat everyone with respect my mum summed up how she feels when she said if I can't be at home then this is the next best thing.

I've recently moved my mum to whittington care home and I'm so pleased I have. She seems so much happier since her move. She has commented how much nicer the atmosphere and staff are to her previous home in Doncaster. I've found the staff to be excellent, extremely caring and interested in mums needs. The activities they are doing are lovely and mum had been more involved than her previous home. Their activity organiser is FABULOUS! I always feel welcomed when I visit and find mum well cared for. I love how the staff seem to have fun and jokes with the residents. The facilities have always been well maintained and clean each time I visit. I adore the garden and mum is so happy to have a lovely oasis to relax in with plenty of shaded areas to sit when I visit. I never wanted my mum in care but now she has to be, this is a place I feel happy and confident are taking care of her.

Having spent just over 3 weeks in Acacia Bank, I found it fantastic, the, staff were amazing and brilliant, and the food was really, really good. My compliments to your chef.

My experience of being brought up in boys' homes was not good. Made me a bit uncertain about going into Acacia Bank actually, it was very good.

While my mother was in your care, she received excellent care and staff in the home were all excellent towards my mother and us, and my mother's needs. Also, when she passed away, we were looked after. After her passing, the night she passed away, the staff on shift showed us a lot of care. Cannot thank staff enough. Always kept family updated on how mum was.

I cannot thank the team enough for the incredible care they provide to my grandfather when he had 2 weeks respite..

The nurses and caregivers are not just professional; they are genuinely warm, patient, and attentive to the small details that make a big difference. The facility is always clean, bright, and welcoming, and there is a lovely sense of community. It brings our family immense peace of mind knowing they are safe, respected, and so well looked after. Highly recommend.

Review of Herncliffe Care Home from K L (Friend of Resident) published on 10 June 2026 Submitted via Website

I first met Erica when she came to visit my friend in her own home and was immediately impressed with her, she was kind and compassionate. I have also had family stay at Herncliffe in the ,so I knew that my friend would be in good hands. The staff are very caring and made her welcome. Mark Julie Gracie Zoe Karen to name a few, sadly I can't remember all of the lovely staffs names, but everybody I have come in contact with are genuine kind caregivers. I would also like to mention the reception ladies, always make my husband and I welcome. I like to go at meal times so I can help my friend with her food and I can honestly say, I really fancied some for myself, especially the omelette with cheese sauce delicious

Review of Whittington Care Home from Heather B (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 7 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Our relative spent his last four months here - it became his last family, for it is a real community here. We as visitors were always warmly welcomed. Our relative was cared for with dignity and humour. There is consistency in staff. Nursing staff were very proactive in updating us re our relative's health, either by seeking us out during visits, or promptly telephoning us to discuss. Nursing staff were conscientious and thorough in their approach to our relative's considerable nursing needs. The activities co-ordinator managed to engage our hard-to-reach relative - miraculous! Everyone, from the management and admin team, nursing team, carers, and maintenance and household team treated our family with kindness and respect. Thank you.

Review of Whittington Care Home from Helen H (Wife of Resident) published on 27 February 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

My husband was accepted to have respite for 3 weeks after the manager had visited us at home. After 3 weeks, we decided as a family that we were more than happy for him to stay at the home permanently. This was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. He settled in much better than expected. There were obviously difficulties to begin with, but it was clear that my husband was happy and has a good relationship with all the staff. Everyone is very helpful, kind and patient when dealing with any situation they have to face. The entertainment activities are also extremely good. We are always kept informed by the staff at each visit. Thank you.

We were quite apprehensive when my mother, a dementia sufferer moved in last year as she can be quite feisty and challenging. Thankfully this was totally unfounded as mum settled very quickly in her comfortable room helped and supported by fantastic staff. The home is clean and comfortable and warm, and generally well looked after. The team at Laurel Bank really seem to care about their residents communicate well and are always available.

Dad was taken in unexpectedly in November, and from the first meeting, everyone has been so kind, caring and reassuring. It's comforting knowing that dad is safe and well cared for. We visit regularly and are always greeted with smiles from the lovely staff who take time to chat to us and keep us informed. Its nice to see that dad has a good relationship with his carers who are very respectful to him, shaking hands and high fiving and always interacting with him, providing him with reassurance when needed.
