My mother needed to go into a care home in May 2019. I visited several homes in the Stourbridge area prior to this and felt Oriel Care Home provided/offered the best service for her needs. It is very homely with dedicated and lovely staff. Mum feels very comfortable with them.

My mom moved into Oriel at the start of lockdown which was a very difficult time. They settled her in and treated her like one of the family, which was a great relief. The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful, most have been part of the team for a number of years, which speaks volumes. They
also ensure that she stays fit and healthy, and any concerns are dealt with immediately. I cannot recommend them enough.

It's difficult at this moment in time to appraise Oriel Care Home as I have not been able to visit personally since early March. However, everyone there must be doing a wonderful job as the Covid-19 rates are almost zero. My aunt has dementia, as do other residents, so it must be very difficult for
the staff to keep things as normal as possible. I would like to say a big thank you to all staff at Oriel. Waiting to visit when we can.

My mother has been very happy here. Sorry I can't rate the Activities because my mother prefers to stay in her room, though I believe there is plenty going on should you wish to participate. I have only ever heard good things about this home!

An excellent choice of care home. Mum has lived here for over 5 years. The home is relatively small, and so has a really cosy and homely feel to it. The staff are the key to it's success, and all are friendly and welcoming, and know me by my first name. The staff are very caring towards all residents
regardless of their needs. Mum had two medical emergencies requiring hospitalisation just before the COVID lockdown, and these were dealt with very well. Since COVID the home has had an enviable success rate in avoiding infections amongst the residents, and they have dealt as well as possible with the difficulties which the enforced isolation has caused for residents and their families.

The vast majority of the staff are lovely, very helpful and really care about the residents and their welfare. Oriel is incredibly clean considering the nature of the business and it is the only care home I've ever visited that does not smell of urine. The food looks and smells nice and frequent activities
are arranged if the residents wish to take part. My only criticism would be that my gran's underwear keeps disappearing despite her initials being on them and that after 6 months, a few of the staff still don't know how she takes her tea.

Oriel House has been home to my mother for over 18 months and she has been happy with her stay. Although she talks about the food, she still easts all her meals. The carers are very attentive to all the residents and there is always a smile from the carers.
Overall, I am pleased that my mother selected
Oriel House for her continued future care.

Extremely efficient and friendly home. Staff are always friendly but at the same time very attentive and put the residents first. Plenty of social activities are arranged. The home is full of 'bustle', lots of cheerful nurses around. Mum's health has improved a lot since she came. Extremely pleased
with all the care that she receives.

The owner, manager and care staff welcomed my father with open arms and looked after him and me extremely well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful care home to any family. Ignore the 2018/19 CQC report, it does not reflect any part of this care home, the inspector must have got out of bed
the wrong side with a bad hangover!
This home is excellent. The care is exceptional and I do not hesitate in writing this review.

My brother spent his last days at Oriel House. He received exemplary care and was treated with dignity and respect, but above all they made him feel special. That care extended to his family, always concerned for us too. My sincere thanks to you all.

A very warm a welcoming home with a bright and airy feel. Residents had a choice of a wide range of activities which were regularly scheduled. All staff made every effort to communicate in a warm and caring manner to the residents. often under very difficult and trying circumstances.

All the rooms

were kept very clean and there were regular visits from hairdressers and chiropodists. Despite the unavoidable noise associated with caring for the residents, there is a general sense of calm - I would thoroughly recommend this establishment.

Mum has been resident for 1 year in her own ensuite room that we added her personal touches for a "home from home" feel. She has a personal call alarm and sensor mat for added safety.
All the staff are very approachable, patient and helpful to any of our concerns and mums even though she can be demanding
at times due to her condition (mild dementia) and mobility issues. The present management has created a very nice, airy and welcoming environment in all areas - dining room, sitting room and gardens.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.877) out of 10 for Oriel Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.877 for Oriel Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (222 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 252 Ratings = 4.877
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oriel Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
