Reviews

9.4 Dingle Meadow Care Home has a Review Score of 9.4 (9.412)

The Review Score of 9.4 (maximum of 10) for Dingle Meadow Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Dingle Meadow Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.412 for Dingle Meadow Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (113 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 199 Ratings = 4.412

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dingle Meadow Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 9.2 positive Reviews (46 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 11 Reviews ÷ 9.2 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I visited the home for the first time in two years as a member of my church is there for respite care. The home welcome I received was excellent. There were plenty of visible staff who were friendly, helpful and displayed a positive professional but still personalised service to the lady’s I was visiting. I walked with my resident to her room and found the lounge, corridor, lift and her room spotless and odour free. There was plenty of interaction between residents and staff members and my resident said: “It’s lovely here, the staff are very friendly and I feel safe”. I left feeling content knowing that my resident was happy. Well done to all at Dingle Meadow.

All seems OK. My dad looked after and now seems a bit more content. Doesn't always look as though there are many staff available.

Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Dingle Meadow Care Home responded to this review on 07 Feb 2018:

Thank you for your feedback which we have now had a chance to discuss and concluded that when you usually visit around 11.00 am, staff are starting their breaks. They don’t go together, however one at a time for 20 minutes each. I have spoken with the senior team to make sure that they are more visible when care staff are busy or on break. I have also advised the care teams that they should let the senior know if they are assisting residents in their rooms so that they can again assist in the communal lounges. I understand that overall you are happy with your Father’s care.

Pleased with Mom's progress and wellbeing.

Residents are treated with dignity and respect. Kept clean and are given a good variety of meals and snacks. Bedrooms and all communal areas are clean and pleasant. I have witnessed a large staff turnover in two years and get the impression there have been management problems. However, there are far less agency staff now and member of staff who stay are of a high standard. There seems to be a big effort to get Dingle Meadow up to a high standard.

Thank you for your feedback which we have now discussed and I understand you were referring to previous management. Overall I know that you feel the Home is improving and the staffing group is more stable. No agency staff are currently being used and you have seen for yourself the positive impact of this. I look forward to seeing your future comments.

We are pleased overall. The home is clean and comfortable. Our aunty is quite happy there. There could be more outings once a week perhaps to the shops - how boring being stuck inside week after week. More entertainment, choir visits from schools, pet visits? Occasionally some carers treat her without respect but most are lovely. Food could be more colourful.

Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Dingle Meadow Care Home responded to this review on 24 Jan 2018:

Following a meeting with the family concerned they are very happy with the home overall and commented on the many improvements that had been made since their family member has been staying at the home. The comment regarding 'some carers do not treat her aunt with respect' was a reference to one occasion several months ago when her aunt made a comment about one carer and does not appear to have happened again. Food is always discussed in our Residents meetings and recently we have been complimented on the choice and standards. Menus are planned with nutritional value, variety and colour in mind. Trips out are a priority, however, the recent weather has made this very difficult. We do have our own minibus and welcome support from our relatives to enable us to take more people out when trips are planned.
I assured the family that we continue to strive to be better and thanked them for their feedback.

I wasn't disappointed.

My dad suffers from dementia.
Both my parents went into Dingle Meadow Care Home together in 2015. My mother died in 2016 and my dad is still there.
He has settled well and all the staff are very good to him. He always smiles at them and they always have a smile for him. He has been in hospital three times since Christmas with sepsis and pneumonia. He is 92 and a half years old and they do keep an eye on him. I can honestly say that all the staff are caring and helpful also in the kitchen.

The first impression was quite good but quickly came to realise that ultimate aim, as with most care homes, is to make as much money from self-funders to subsidise council-paid residents. The company didn't staff adequately; either with the quantity of staff and sometimes the quality. Experienced a couple of incidents with mistakes administering meds, which would not happen if a "real" wage was paid. Glossy brochure showing beautifully presented, quality meals wasn't the reality. Changing water jug in room daily seemed to present a problem too.

HC-One, Careline Team at Dingle Meadow Care Home responded to this review on 09 Feb 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
In relation to the staffing levels at the home, HC-One aims to deliver the kindest possible care to all Residents, and we know how important it is to provide continuity of care with friendly and familiar staff members to support each Resident. We are committed to delivering this vision through recruiting, training and staffing our homes with all permanent HC-One carers.
Please be assured all of our homes meet or exceed the staffing guidelines that are set by our regulators. We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve, and therefore tailor our staffing levels to ensure we can meet everyone’s individual needs.
We have been working closely with Sandwell Local Authority and as a result of this inter– organisational focus we have increased where necessary the number of care staff on duty.
We actively encourage our care staff to enhance their learning and extend their care skills.
Medication management and compliance remains a high priority focus within all our care homes.

You have highlighted concerns about the food on offer at the home, and we apologise if we have fallen short of the high standards we aspire to.
Each home has its own dedicated catering team who prepare all meals using fresh, raw, ingredients. All fresh meat and meat products are British Farm Assured. Making sure Residents have a choice of their favourite foods is really important to us and we record their individual preferences. We are delighted to welcome families and loved-ones to share in mealtimes, and the Sunday roast is a special time at many of our homes.
The new manager at the care home has taken your comments on board and as a result, has increased the number of Dignity in Dining Experiences she undertakes in order to monitor the service, quality and overall mealtime experience for our Residents; any actions identified in this area will be addressed. We periodically carry out a Food for Thought survey for Residents and relatives to further improve our service from the feedback provided.

Regarding the issue raised in respect of the changing of the water jugs within Resident’s rooms, the manager monitors this closely as part of her daily walk around checks within our Quality System.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide really helpful feedback about the home. We value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.
The health, well-being, safety and happiness of Residents are our top priorities, and we work hard every day to ensure we are delivering the high quality, kind care all Residents deserve.

Lovely home - very caring staff. Nan settled in well! Keep up the the good work!

My mother has been a resident for the past 3 years. I am perfectly satisfied with her care. She has dementia and I am happy she is being looked after to my satisfaction as she is unable to tell me herself. I am also relieved that she cannot leave the building without supervision, something she was always threatening to do when she lived at home.
