My father is so happy here. I can't fault anything.

Reply from Geoff Butcher, Director at Evendine House

It is a delight having your father with us as part of the Evendine community and whilst I am delighted you are both so happy, there must be something(s) we can do better (!) so please as and when there come to mind, do pass on your idea to our management team.

You look after my mother-in-law so beautifully, with such care, compassion and kindness. Nothing appears to be too much trouble, so thank you. You have been very supportive with challenging situations too, for which we are very grateful about, because making decisions around safeguarding is never easy. Thank you.

My father died in Evendine House Care Home in Colwall. He had only been resident there for three weeks and his death was sudden and unexpected.
In the short time he was there, he was treated with respect, dignity but also humour. They really seemed to get to know him and I felt very comforted that he was in good care and safe hands.
I was very impressed by both the managers and staff I dealt with. I live several hours away and so the majority of my contact with staff was by phone. The staff always had time to chat with me about how my dad was doing and they kept me well-informed.

The staff member handled notifying me of his sudden death by phone very sensitively. Likewise, my mum was welcomed when she visited the home after his death.

My dear mum has now been at Evendine House coming up for two years. Mum was warmly welcomed and was given an allocated carer to help her settle in. The family were welcomed with a sandwich platter lunch in the gardens allowing us time to arrange mum's room with her personal belongings. In the early days, mum preferred to stay in her room watching television, this was no trouble to the caring staff who ensured she had regular checks and all her meals and drinks provided. Over time mum was encouraged to join the other residents in the lounge, mum's wishes were always respected if and when wanting to do this.

In October 2022 thanks to the vigilance of the carers whilst carrying out covid monitoring recognised mum had low oxygen levels and a dry cough which resulted in mum being taken to hospital, this wasn’t covid. On her return, I can’t thank the management and carers enough for getting mum well again. Now she's regularly in the lounge and engaging with other residents and activities.

My mother recently passed away peacefully at Evendine. For 18 months she was very well cared for and due to her frailty, she required a high level of personal care several times each day. Staff were consistently kind and attentive and I will always be grateful to those individual carers who were so considerate to her needs. Her end-of-life care was exceptional. Our family were also very well supported during a difficult and emotionally draining time.

I would recommend Evendine to others. It is a relatively small care home and therefore able to offer residents a familiar face and continuity of care, very important for those with dementia. It is also a bonus that the environment is not busy, fairly quiet with nice gardens. My thanks to all the staff. I just wish that carers could be recognised and well remunerated for the vitally important work they do.

The team have been very friendly, caring and professional from the day our mother moved into the care home in August this year. The team have made an effort to make us all feel welcome, not just our mother and really understand dementia which has given us so much confidence in entrusting mum to their care. Mum has settled in well and has a lovely room with beautiful views of her beloved Malvern hills. The team provide activities on a daily basis and some larger events - we enjoyed the fete in September, it was particularly lovely to see so many pets and children come along. All the residents joined in, and my 2-year-old grandson loved it too. Recently mum has not been well, but the team have been so supportive and helpful, especially in liaising with the hospital. We are all glad to see her back at Evendine House, where she is doing well under their care. It is really good to have the family portal too, with lots of useful updates on how she is getting on.

My mother's first day at Evendine House was a very good experience for all. One of the Carers was assigned to look after us and spent a lot of time getting to know my mother, her life history, and her family. We were warmly welcomed and given a lovely sandwich platter lunch to share in the beautiful gardens. When we left my mother in the afternoon we felt very confident that Evendine House is the right choice.

Our friend from teenage years came to Evendine three years ago, suffering from mild dementia. She was made very welcome, had a lovely room, and enjoyed the communal activities. Over the years her dementia has developed, and at all stages the staff have been kind, thoughtful, and respectful. Now she is often reluctant to leave her room, though does on occasions when she consents to go. Staff visit her regularly and socialise with her. She continues to enjoy meals which she selects from a menu though often she now needs guidance in selecting. She is now incontinent, and staff check if she is clean and comfortable every two hours as a minimum, night and day. On occasions she has fallen, and can no longer move about independently, so two staff help her. There is a hoist for her exclusive use, her bed can rise and lower, having guard-rails, and there are pressure mats placed strategically around the room. Whenever we visit we find her tidy, well-groomed, and cheerful.

My brother moved in during lockdown. The manager offered options for keeping in touch with him directly and provided updates on his progress whenever I needed it. I always felt reassured that he was in good hands. When he fell ill with a serious infection (not Covid) they reacted promptly and appropriately and kept me posted at all times. As his condition became critical they relaxed restrictions so I could see him, properly protected. Only then did I have the opportunity to see the lovely house, his airy room with a view over the large and beautiful gardens, which he had so enjoyed during his stay. And to meet the staff, who were all I could have hoped for - warm, caring, attentive, good-humoured, and genuinely fond of those in their charge. They had kept my brother active with gardening, music and dancing, puzzles and conversation, in spite of circumstantial limitations on resources. The location is fabulous and the atmosphere in the home peaceful, yet vibrant.

I wrote a review of Evendine House in July 2019. Sadly, my mother died as a result of a chest infection in November. I should like to put on record that the end-of-life care that Evendine House provided for my mother during her final weeks was outstandingly good. The manager and her team gave my mother all the practical support that she needed and showed her great affection. Members of staff spent a lot of time with her, looked after her physical needs very well and treated her with dignity. They maintained close liaison with my mother’s GP and other medical staff, and kept us fully informed at all stages. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Evendine House.

I have been surprised by how well my friend seems to have settled into life at Evendine House after moving there about three months ago.
She tells me the food is good, the staff are lovely and there is always something to do. When I last visited, she was making cupcakes. She enjoys this well-maintained gardens as she loved being outdoors.
I can think of no better place for her to be.

She can even see her beloved Malvern Hills.

My childhood friend has been a resident for a few months now. She has settled well, put on weight, looks less stressed and interacts with the staff and residents alike. She enjoys taking part in activities which are organised each day. She says how good the food is and how considerate the staff are. We feel reassured that she is well cared for at Evendine House.
