My Stepfather moved to Evendine almost a year ago. We chose Evendine partly because it is close to our home and we visit most days.
Staff. The staff at Evendine are exceptional. There is a real 'family feel' to Evendine. Everyone is caring and kind and professional.
Management. The management have an 'open door' policy and are approachable. They are reactive to comments and strive to achieve highest standards of care. I have been able to speak to the ower if needed.
Activities. There is an activity programme in the week. It would be good to have trips out in the better weather.

Food and Drink. Food is home cooked but my Stepfather doesn't find it very appetising. Having said that he is never hungry!

I am here for a short break and am having a lovely time. As an observer, in a way, I have watched the staff deal with confused and sometimes mildly abusive residents, with kindness and patience. It is difficult to find any fault except it would be nice to have a shower! Meals are excellent, well worked and presented and with a good degree of choice. Supper is the only meal I find a problem as it is served earlier that I would like.

Mum has just moved to a new room in her care home. She loves the space and views from her windows. She is continuing to be really well cared for and despite decreasing mobility, all the staff look after her so well.

I never worry about how she is being cared for. I am always made to feel welcome.

Because my husband was a once a week day care visitor and knew all the staff, when he developed a chest infection after a fall, our doctor contacted the home. There was actually a room available at that point so they agreed to take him. Unfortunately, in spite of careful nursing and antibiotics, his condition deteriorated and he needed to be transferred to hospital where he lingered for a further 3 weeks before he finally passed peacefully away. But the love and care he received at Evendine House were exemplary.

The care home is kept very clean and tidy and the rooms are cleaned and the beds changed. My mother is looked after well, she can be difficult but everyone is understanding. The staff are very friendly and do their best and are helpful. The food is good, plenty of change and things to eat. It is very warm and cosy.

I visit dad at different times of the day/days and the staff are always happy and easy to talk to and care about dad and the other residents.
Dad has a range of meals and snacks of which I see due to visiting at different times.
His room is warm, bed is always made and the bathroom is clean.
His doctor comes if he needs him/her.

On the whole, I am happy and dad is happy with being there. He gets visitors and all are made to feel welcome.

Evendine House is not a purpose built care home and therefore has shortcomings which are not easily correctable. It is a pity that the development plans appear to have sunk without trace. The excellent and caring staff do a good job in less than ideal circumstances.

Reply from geoff butcher, owner at Evendine House

It is not our wish or intent to own or operate "a purpose built care home" - we believe our residents prefer a homely ' 4 star Country House hotel' style of accommodation which is exactly what Evendine provides. Further, the "development plans have not sunk without trace" we have obtained full...

Overall Experience

My mother has lived at Evendine House for just over 6 years. The care she has received has always been very good. During this 6 year period there has been 1 change of ownership and 1 new Manager; throughout these changes, the high standard of care remained constant. All residents appear to be understood, enjoyed and valued for their individual personalities and unique ways. My mother’s changing needs have been respected and quickly responded to, from everyday personal requirements to the preparation of specific dishes for dietary requirements. Visitors are greeted with a friendly welcome and are looked after with refreshments. I have always found Management to be readily available and quickly answer any queries. Overall Evendine offers a homely, comfortable and well-maintained environment to its residents and visitors alike.

My mother had four extremely happy years at Evendine House. From the moment she arrived until the day she died, the staff showed exceptional love and care and I felt they really know her. The atmosphere in the home was always welcoming and the carers always greeted us and looked after us too. It is a real home from home and is a truly wonderful place.
